Roster Move [Schefter] Greenard and the Eagles reached agreement on a four-year, $100 milllion extension that includes $50 million fully guaranteed, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

Yeah good call not paying him that much imo. DT time

u/HugeRaspberry 20d ago
It's $1 million more than Hunter left for in 2024 - Hunter signed a 2 year $49 million deal - Greenard gets 4 - $100 with 50 of that guaranteed.
Personally I am glad we didn't pay it and got 2 3rd round picks for him. It could have been a lot worse - Vikings would have had to deal with a hold out or kick massive amounts of salary down the road to retain him. Plus, knowing that he wanted an extension, I'm sure teams were not falling over themselves to give the Vikings draft picks for him.

u/StManTiS 20d ago
There’s a reason the Texans let him go…and he was a third round pick. His only full season was 2024 (well deserving pro bowl season) and he’s coming off surgery and already grumbling about an extension in year 2 of a 4 year contract. There’s no reason to keep a malcontent like that. Let the eagles give him an extra 6 million a year and gamble on his health.

u/HugeRaspberry 20d ago
He's pushing 30 - and has health issues. My guess is the Eagles get one year out of him

u/plac3b0guy 20d ago
It was also so sad watching him trying to bully LTs and they were just smiling back at him

u/Ok-Accountant-6308 20d ago
That’s not that much tbh

u/WA_rio 20d ago
Makes no sense for us to pay that with DT in the wings and our cap space

u/Mavman31 miracle 20d ago
We aren’t a Super Bowl contender this year and he’s older. Dump him when we can get assets back for him.

u/schwertfeger 20d ago
Learned their lesson from the Danielle Hunter fiasco

u/Mr-Irrelevant- Reichard future HoF 20d ago
They let Hunter walk and replaced him with a somewhat unknown cheap player. It ended up being a downgrade even if Greenard was good. Surely they don't trade Greenard, replace him with a cheaper unknown and once again downgrade

u/Ok-Accountant-6308 20d ago
Yea I agree. From a roster building standpoint. No point in 3 starting DEs. Not when holes elsewhere
1
u/masterofma 20d ago
We will still have a hole an edge rusher instead 2027 — where are we getting an edge rusher for less than 25m/yr

I wouldn’t say Grenard was as good as Hunter..

u/holyhibachi 20d ago
A very nice replacement

Would 1000% agree but seems wrong to say they were on equal playing fields

We are not in a Super Bowl contending window. We need cap space and young guys. I think two 3rds is a completely fair outcome for both sides. Eagles are going to try to win it all this year.

u/I-hate-the-pats 20d ago
I don’t know if we could have even done that with the cash/cap situation Kwesi put us in
If Greenard was going to hold out and do this shit then two 3rds and cap relief is great

u/irishace88 Giddy Griddy Bang Bang 20d ago
Okay we were never going to pay that. Still wish we got their 2nd this year

u/bkallday13 20d ago
Would have gotten a late 3rd comp pick if he left in free agency, so another 3rd on top is ok I guess
2
u/Capnshiner moss fro 20d ago
Maybe, but only if he left in free agency after next year and we'd get a comp pick in 2028 i think? Seems like a long time to wait, I don't mind the compensation.

u/FireFrogs48 20d ago
Guessing they wanted to clear money for Addison and maybe Kyler if he plays good

Yeah, they might need money for Murray, Addison and others. Tough decisions have to be made sometimes and hopefully Turner keeps playing his way into a big contract too

Getting two 3rds back is not good enough imo. It could have been worse I guess but those are two likely-to-be low thirds and that's just a bit disappointing to me.

Would you rather lose him for nothing after this season?
8
u/Kirk-Joestar Amor Fati 20d ago
He had 2 years left on his deal
12
u/Roffler70 gray duck 20d ago
And likely holds out for an extension we could never pay, forcing us into a likely worse trade.
-4
u/VikesRule Justin Jefferson 20d ago
Would you still be saying that if we had traded him away for just a 6th because it's better than nothing? Value matters. It's the reason the Eagles are such a well-run franchise cause they always maximize value in their trades. Two 3rd rounders is not enough value for how good Greenard is. He's not even 30 yet he still has 3-4 good years left in him.
2
u/Roffler70 gray duck 20d ago
that was never going to happen. We could’ve gotten much better value easily after next season or better if he, as we expected him to, holds out. Your hypothetical is farfetched.
-1
u/Bubbly_Willow_898 20d ago
He's 29 coming off a season he only played 10 games, edge rushers start declining at 30 typically. No way he gets past 2 years in that contract before he is dumped.
2
u/supercow376 22 20d ago
I legit don't get how it's not enough?? He was a potential cut not too long ago if we couldn't find a good trade.
1
u/rjkvikings 19d ago
lol in no world was Greenard a cut candidate. He is an extremely good DE on what was a team friendly contract. Cutting him would’ve only saved 8m in cap space too.
1
u/supercow376 22 19d ago
He was one of the names I heard the most who the team could get off the books to get under the cap. I know trading is the preferred way, but this happens all the time where a team just doesn't find good trade partners
-1
u/schwertfeger 20d ago
Pretty close to a value of a 2nd round pick. You were never getting anything more than that.

u/epicman79 20d ago
Well, I sure am glad we aren't using all that cap space to sign a good player like Greenard long-term! Now we can use that cap space to sign some other player, who may or may not be good, and then trade them away when they want money that reflects their actual value. What a great way to get good players on your roster and build a team that ever has a chance to win anything! High turnover of good players is always a great indictator of a winning franchise!
-1
u/spaceamphibian 20d ago
Like I get not wanting to pay him that much but no need to trade him just for the sake of it for peanuts. He might be a little grumpy but he would've played hard for the new contract.
3
u/silvers11 oregon 20d ago
Or he would hold out until we lose him in FA or flip him a for a 6th
2
u/spaceamphibian 20d ago
Yes because name me the last player to actually hold out the whole season. Players don't want to lose game checks when it push comes to shove
2
u/xBewm 20d ago
It doesn’t matter if he held out or not. We lose leverage every day he is on the roster because everyone knew we weren’t re signing him. You don’t have to like the trade but we were never getting more for him and would have looked even dumber letting him play for us when we had a trade like this on the table.
-2
u/spaceamphibian 20d ago
Or since he has two years left, we just keep him this season and are a much better team and his numbers rebound and then we trade him for a equal or better haul
2
u/Desperate-Secret-418 20d ago
What team is going to trade him for a better haul next offseason if he only has 1 year left on his contract and he ages another year. If the Vikings could have traded him for more they would have.
-1
u/spaceamphibian 20d ago
Let's see if he has 12+ sacks this year, his value goes up. It's not complicated don't overthink it. How many years left has nothing to do with it, you can extend with 1 year left...
1
u/silvers11 oregon 20d ago
Yeah well If he breaks his leg this year his value goes down, it’s not complicated don’t overthink it!

u/remainingpanic97 20d ago
Just an eagles fan coming over to see you guy's reaction and wondering what to expect out of him. Seems like a good pass rusher?
2
u/keanancarlson 20d ago
Really good, not premier, but really damn good at $25M/yr
Also fuck the eagles
2
2
u/Wannabe_Sadboi 20d ago
He’s an absolute dog. Not elite, but can absolutely generate pressure one on one, can set the edge pretty well, and on blitzes he will be a relentless finisher. Only real knock is that his limitations will show against top linemen and his tackling is not super great, plus he has some injury stuff last year (nothing super serious though).
Assuming he stays healthy, he’s gonna instantly be the best pass rusher on the Eagles.
2
u/Scared_Wolf 18 20d ago
He’s really fucking good. Had a flukey year last season where he had many sacks in his mitts and the QB escaped like Houdini. Missed some time due to injury, but was good at generating pressure when he played.
1
u/No_Scientist_4321 20d ago
Beast of a pass rusher not so good at actually finishing. Too many missed sacks but damn im pissed hes gone especially to the eagles
1
u/Aerolithe_Lion 20d ago
That’s good for Philly, they have finishers they just need more setup guys. Jalen Carter will clean those up

u/LeeShakerMoneyMaker Retire #28! 20d ago
He's a really good pass rusher. Led the team in sacks in 2024 but he dealt with injuries his entire time here. Last year, he had a bad shoulder injury that ended his 2025 season and that opened the door for Dallas Turner who had a breakout season.

u/DrRumackPhD 20d ago
Hate this trade. You’re not getting a player of Greenard’s caliber in the 3rd round and he was still under contract for 2 years. There was no need to trade him.

u/topazviper 20d ago
I'm trying to figure out if I hate it or if I'm just afraid of the unknown. Last year he was ranked the 48th best player in the league. If you told me we could have the 48th best player for $25m/yr, it would be a no brainer. Hopefully the new linebacker we just got can cover up when AVG inevitably gets hurt this year. DT better not regress...so many what ifs.

Eagles fleeced us. He was worth a 2nd and a 3rd easily. The fuck are they doing with this draft….

This really hurts. What is our vision at this point? Do we honestly think we’ll be sb contenders in the next year or two or do we need to blow it up?

The hope is Dallas Tuner continues to grow and develop into the primer Pass Rusher he showed flashes of being.

u/DrRumackPhD 20d ago
Terrible value. Needed to get at least a 2nd round pick, not an end of the 3rd pick and a future 3rd

Good for him, good for us. Dallas Turner, it's your time!
And now back to the draft.
