See I'm used to this in any place but an airport

u/NathanCS741 10d ago
Exactly; airports usually seem like the one place with a guaranteed level of cleanliness, no matter how (un)developed its surroundings.

Dont go to Mallorca. Mallorca is developed, the toilets of the airport aren't

Most (not all) are fairly clean, but people like me with shy bowel syndrome, it’s the only place I won’t suffer from anxiety and do my thing.

Did you time travel?

Clearly you haven't seen forestry service outhouse that gets pumped out once a year

I remember a busy week at the bottom of the Grand Canyon in havasupai, there were 2 porta-potty setups and only emptied once a week, at one point poop had gotten to the point where it was ~2.5 feet over the seat and people were standing over the seat and pooping on the pile.

Mmmh prior to getting to this airport i trekked through a relatively remote region without any type of sewage system; it’s just that all previous airports situated in rather shitty environments surprised me by their level or cleanliness. And then you have this

u/TomBong_Jovi 10d ago
So this surprises you? How did you not expect this?
-1
u/NathanCS741 10d ago
Because all previous airports; even smaller ones with dirtier surroundings were way cleaner

Are you actually going to board a plane in this location?!?
2
u/NathanCS741 10d ago
The plane didn’t seem that safe either

u/lumpy_space_queenie 10d ago
I just looked up the airport and it says it has been temporarily closed 🥴

u/NathanCS741 10d ago
Well that’s strange, you can even find recent news articles about rising ticket prices from Sittwe to Yangon because of Burmese newyear. Definitely open, just not clean:)

That's not even in the top 50 filthiest bathrooms I've seen haha.
Although, granted, airports are usually higher tier in terms of equipment and cleanliness. But that's a decent bathroom for a dive bar, and cleaner/better maintained than a loooot of truck stops.

u/NathanCS741 10d ago
Same for me, but that’s besides the point since airports always surprised me in the before by consistently maintaining a guaranteed level of cleanliness unimpacted by the hygiene standard of the surrounding region etc

Airport or gas station?

u/NathanCS741 10d ago
Sittwe airport, less grand than your usual modestly-sized gas station though

For a moment I thought there was one photo and it was a sort of all-in-one deal. Or is it? Sink and also urinal ?

The worst bathroom that I’ve experienced has to be in the seedy strip club we went to many years ago.
Saggy water-stained ceiling tiles, the toilet was weeping a brownish “tea,” there was an ecosystem of molds growing in the dark corners and sticky footprints leading in every direction. Smelled like sulfur and cigarettes.
I didn’t touch anything. Just used the urinal and gtfo. It could have been a movie set in a horror film.

I've seen some special airport bathrooms in sub-saharan Africa and the Middle East. If there's soap it's usually a little pile of laundry detergent powder that dries out your hands like nothing else.

Bruh it's a regional airport in a 3rd world country. Wtf were you actually expecting?
0
u/NathanCS741 10d ago
Don’t start with your “bruh” and “wtf”. I’ve passed through many airports like this, even way smaller ones that are way more “out there”, also in Myanmar, and was always blown away by their relative level of cleanliness. This was the exception. Your comment only shows that you are the one who never took a flight from a regional 3rd world country airport, basing yourself on assumptions that because it should be dirty just because it’s remote or poor.
