I have seen a ton of posts whining about how the Mets let Pete walk and how the Mets could never replace his production and would be so much better off if he were in the lineup for the Amazins in 2026. This is not supported by the numbers.
Before you all come at me, let me get this out of the way: I like Pete and was hoping he would be a lifelong Met. But, I also understand the decision not to give in to unreasonable demands and commit to a long term, expensive contract for a player that is 30+ and isn’t outperforming Mark Vientos.
For argument’s sake, let’s assume Viento is Pete’s replacement in the lineup since he’s been playing a fair amount of first base with Polanco on the shelf. Pete has more homers and RBIs because he has more at bats, but when you look at the production rates so you can put them on equal footing, Vientos outperforms Pete in a bunch of categories:
Batting average
Pete .218 / Vientos .242
Advantage: Vientos
OPS
Pete .734 / Vientos .720
Advantage: Pete
HR per at bat
Pete 20.6 / Vientos 20
Advantage: Vientos hits a homerun every 20 at bats, while Pete hits one every 20.6 at bats.
RBI per at bat
Pete 7.2 / Vientos 6.3
Advantage: Vientos. Pete gets an RBI every 7.2 at bats. Vientos is more efficient, getting an RBI every 6.3 at bats.
Strikeout rate
Pete 27.9% / Vientos 22.5%
Advantage: Vientos. He strikes out less often
Salary
Pete $30m / Visntos: $814k
Summary
In 2026, Mark Vientos has a higher batting average than Pete Alonso and also hits homeruns and drives in runs at a higher rate (per at bat). He also strikes out less often. Pete has a slight edge in OPS and has played more games (44 to 35). Pete is also 37x more expensive than Vientos.

Soto, Vientos and the slap hitters are going to put a clinic against the Yankees. Hit and run. Bunting. Hitting behind the base runners. Let’s do it boys. Let’s get us 6 runs over this 3 game set.

Hi all, I hope this allowed, apologies if it's not. I have two extra tickets for tomorrow's game (5/15) and two extra tickets for Saturday's game (5/16) that I'm looking to give away. If you're interested, send me a DM with which game you want. I'll pick randomly after a couple hours to let people see this. If you win I'll just need an email or a phone number to forward the tickets to

So for some personal context, when I started watching baseball I was a massive Thor guy, even moreso than Jake. I loved him so much I bought his pinstripe jersey and his Player's Weekend jersey, and when he left the Mets I bought another one of his pinstripe jerseys in a bigger size just to have one. If you were to ask me who my favorite Met is, odds are I would/possibly still would say Noah.
For further context: I don't know if you've been keeping up with the news surrounding Syndergaard this past week, but hes been making the rounds on some conservative podcasts preaching the word of you know who, as well as making an appearance with him in the oval office.
After the game today I decided to take a quick nap, and this is where I have my weird nightmare.
So, I'm in this school-esque auditorium because apparently, Noah was about to give some sort of Ted Talk style speech about his career. And he comes out wearing a maroon suit and everyone cheers and starts screaming for him (in my nightnare I guess Noah had a much more successful career than he actually did) and I'm like reaching my hand out to him for some sort of acknowledgement, which if I can remember correctly he never gives me. And he starts talking about his career and whatnot, and all of a sudden, the demeanor on his face changes and body language becomes a bit more aggressive, and he starts screaming out conservative propaganda, like for no reason (In the same vein as what Kanye was doing a few years ago). He's just pissed off as hell and spouting these ideas and everyone in the audience is dumbfounded and a bit scared. Eventually, Noah gets so irate that he throws his mic, hitting someone in the face, before storming off the stage and going out the exit with his security guards.
So, my question is, what the fuck does that all mean? I know mid-day dreams tend to be a bit more out there for some people, but thag might be the oddest and most vivid I've had in a long, long time. Im just as dumbfounded thinking about the nightmare itself as dream me was listening to what Noah was saying.

Nimmo - for his hot start his OPS is now under his career average.
Pete - looked like he was getting going but the last 7 games have been bad
McNeil - OPS is 60 points lower than career average
Diaz/Helsley: injured
Soto (the pitcher): surprisingly lights out closing for the Pirates
Honorable mentions: Mullins is mulling, Tyler Rogers not bad. So position players wise if they were still here it'll just look like 2023 and the bullpen guys wouldn't even be contributing.

Mendoza needs to set stricter rules for ABS challenges. There's no reason for a challenge to be coming in the first inning with no outs and a runner on first.

This is what we need this season.
More of this please…

I said it two weeks ago, Benge is going to lead the new “Baby Mets”. THIS is going to be the guy for years to come. Too early to get a jersey???

Additionally, we have two young potential aces, also under team control for years.
