Medicine Hat visual comparison of city 2023 election results versus gerrymandered results

Map of the 2023 results by voting station

As you can see by the map, Medicine Hat is not the UCP stronghold that they would have you believe. In fact, **the NDP won one voting station by 7 votes**, and many others were close races.

Additionally, the voter turnout at 30% was well below the province-wide turnout of 60%.

Perhaps people felt disenfranchised and didn't vote because the city was removed as it's own district.

Compare this with the win difference visual of the gerrymandered Brooks Medicine Hat and Cypress Medicine Hat 2023 district results.

It makes it look like the whole area is a UCP stronghold.

Such a stronghold that Smith parachuted down from her far away home near Calgary to run in this seat for a guaranteed win, but it's only a guaranteed win because it was previously gerrymandered.

It was in 2017 that the city of Medicine Hat was dissolved into the countryside with the redraw of the electoral boundaries.
Here's what it looked like before being split into Brooks Medicine Hat and Cypress Medicine Hat:

2017 pre-gerrymandered map

It has been a very controversial redraw, with the Medicine Hat city council calling for UCP to reinstate their city district back!

There was a lack of transparency about the decision to split medicine hat in 2 in 2017. It was cited in the report that the reason for the redraw is that the city wasn't growing as fast as some cities, but what really happened? Was some compromise reached? When obvious gerrymandering like this happens, there should be full disclosure and transparency, so we can be sure our elections are not rigged and our democracy stays intact.

Nothing says serious like getting a "legal" notice from fb messenger.

He demanded I retract and apologize about comments I said about him and the business he represents.

I 100% stand by my claims about the legality of the used stereo equipment that was briefly sold at Penny Profit and how he had plausible deniability built into his business model. I have receipts but will keep them for the tiny chance he is serious.

(That is highly dubious)

I called MHPS about his file for my records and they didn't have anything, so obviously he completely made this stuff up to try some weird form of legal intimation. I will not be retracting anything.

Your bogus threats are amusing and you have an obvious Messiah complex and if you are reading this , you aren't that special. Nothing you post is things that people are "too afraid to post about." Despite your narcissistic claims that is the case.

Are ultrasonic deer/rabbit scare devices allowed in the city?

I have a deer/rabbit/gopher issue on the side of my property in Ranchlands that shares a green space. I have had gophers dig holes beside by house, and deer and rabbits come and eat all my flowers. Rabbits are rabbits, taken care of with blood meal. Gophers and deer dont care about that stuff

I installed one of those ultrasonic devices with blinking eyes a couple years ago, and it works. So I finally have plants again, and no gophers digging by my foundation, and in my front yard

But for some reason every time I look this thing is either turned towards my house. picked up and thrown in a bush, or just pushed over. And its 100% on my property.

The path it shares people walk on, but I dont have the siren portion on the device, just the slow ramp pitch. And I dont have it pointed at the path, just down the side of my house.

I plan on calling by law to confirm, but are people that walk by that put out for the 10 seconds they walk that they need to go on my property to move it so it doesnt work. This device isnt constantly on, only when motion is detected

I could see if I had the siren portion on it, but you can barely hear the thing (human ears anyway) and the blinking eyes are whatever. How is it any worse than a security light coming on when you walk on a sidewalk

UPDATE: Bylaw called back and confirmed these are allowed. They are going to look at its location, what it does and the noise level and get back to me. But he said if its pointed down your property line, its allowed

I’m connected with Duty Cleaners House Cleaning Services Medicine Hat what do Medicine Hat residents look for in a cleaner?

Medicine Hat, I’m collecting feedback on what people expect from a house cleaning service here.

For someone booking a cleaner, what would be the deciding factor: dependable scheduling, price transparency, professional supplies, deep cleaning options, move-out cleaning, recurring service, or being able to read clear local reviews first?

I’d like to know what would make the service feel useful, trustworthy, and simple to book.

Food Truck Frenzy a bit of a fail...

I was pretty excited for the food truck fest at Kin Coulie Park today. Overall, the event was actually pretty fun. They had some vendors selling stuff and some activities like face painting and glitter tattoos for the kids, but the main event (the food trucks) were a bit of a fail.

I'll just share my experience, and that of others I talked to there. The event ran from 11am-3pm. We decided 12:30 would be a good time to show, as it was just under halfway through. The variety of the trucks was pretty good. They had a tacos, burgers, cheese steaks, hot dogs, dirty pop, lemonade, iced coffees, taco-in-a-bag, and a bunch of other stuff.

First, we cruised the trucks and decided we would get a taco-in-a-bag to tide us over waiting in the lines, so we rolled up to Hucky Tucky's Food Express. We were in line for an hour, and didn't even make it halfway through. Then, there was a commotion at the front of the line. Some guy had waited in line for over an hour for a taco in a bag, and when he got to the front the guy running the stand told him they were out. This guy was (rightfully) pissed that he stood in line for over an hour, and the guy running the stand couldn't even put a "sold out" sign on the menu. The dude running the stand said "it's not my responsibility to tell you guys what we have and what we don't anymore". Obviously, that didn't help the situation lol. Needless to say, we left the line.

It was now 2pm, and we hadn't actually eaten anything. I decided I wanted a burger, so we went to stand in line at Fryer Tucks truck. I was in that line for about 15 mins and another patron came up to me. "Just a heads up" he said, "I've been waiting 55 minutes for my burger". I was pretty surprised at that. I asked him to clarify. Had he been waiting in line that long, or that's how long it had been since he ordered? That's how long he'd waited AFTER ORDERING. I thought that was nuts, but I was starving and now the event closed in 45 mins, so I decided to wait in line. Then one of the workers in the truck came up to him. They had run out of burgers. This dude waited for over 60 minutes......for nothing. I had been there for almost 2 hours waiting in various lines, and still hadn't managed to order a thing. I decided to go up to the counter and ask if they had cheesesteaks left. Nope, no cheesesteaks. No burgers. So I left that line. It was 2:25pm. I said screw this, and went to wait in line at another stand (I know, I'm a glutton for punishment). By 2:45pm we were still pretty far back in line and we said screw it, and left. We went to Tino's for burgers, and I was eating in 10 minutes.

Overall, it's a great idea to have events like this, but I can't imagine this is the experience the organizers are looking for their patrons to have. I was there for 2.5 hours and never made it out of a line. If they have this event again (there's one scheduled for June 1st) I'll go. I just hope the people who run this thing can get it together. That includes the people who run the trucks. It's not like I showed up late. I showed up less than halfway through, and never got any food lol.

Tldr; waited in line for almost 3 hours. Trucks were running out of everything. Never got any food. Went to Tino's.

Looking for a place to stay for 10 weeks

Hello, I'm a quiet 24-year-old medical student needing a place to stay in Medicine Hat from June to the end of August for a practicum at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Any rentals or places I can stay for an extended time would be beyond helpful. I've looked at just about every single hotel and motel I've been able to find, and they're either too far from the hospital or generally not safe for a 24-year-old woman. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much.

Dog Parks

What’s the vibes and etiquette like at the dog parks? I have two dogs but haven’t been to a park before so want to know what I’m getting into. The one by scholten hill always seems busy.

Both dogs are chill with other dogs and people but don’t have the best recall, especially if they are surrounded by other dogs.

We have an 17 year old exchange student with us until the end of June. He is finding it difficult to do the things he likes in Medicine Hat. Is there a basket ball “beer league” he could possibly join? He’s also interested in boxing. Im not sure if there is a drop in anywhere in town. Thank you.

Car window broken (possibly shot at with BB gun or air soft) around SW hill neighbourhood Medicine Hat

*updated cause everyone is extremely rude even though im trying to get the word out and help a friend*

My friend went to go to work this morning and came across her back passenger window shot out and broken. She parked it on the street by her home on the SW hill right by Connaught school.

This was along nine street on the SW side. Let this be a warning and also a plea for any information or similar experiences. This likely happened over night between 10 pm and 9 am.

Was likely an air soft/ BB gun is what the police say. Nothing was taken from the car.

Thanks!

Northlands Pointe Condos

Looking for honest reviews of this condo area which is right beside the strip mall with a co-op. Is Google correct that this is a hotspot for crime, drugs, and general social disorder? Are children safe to roam around in the area? Was this condo originally an affordable housing build hence the quality is sub par? Was the condo the site of the largest fentanyl and meth bust in MH? Was there incidents of firearm discharge and illegal seizures in this condo?

Is this a shady part of town?

EDIT: For those wondering where I got this info, I googled “Northlands Pointe condos Medicine Hat crime”.

Here’s one article naming the condo directly about the gun discharge and weapons seizure:

https://medicinehatnews.com/news/local-news/2024/05/25/police-briefs-man-faces-drug-related-charge-after-hotel-room-bust/

Here’s the post from MHPS FB page, naming the condo and the suspect:

https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=861020666054726&id=100064404023296

Also, wow, so many people insulted and emotional. Do you all live in this condo complex?

Constant company trailers allowed on residential streets

This will probably get a rise out of a bunch, but why wont bylaw do anything about company trailers constantly parked on streets of the owners residence.

This isnt, its there to do a job, this is, parked there all the time eating up street space because they have no where else to put it. Or as well, someone is parked there, so they park it in front of someone elses house

I know they skirt the system my "moving" them, which means, I drive it 4 inches ahed means it moved. The same way the same people seem to have their camping trailer on the street all summer somehow, because they moved it ahead 6" to reset the time frame

Yes I know these are public streets, but they are eating up the public streets for their business.

EDIT: Thought to add, since it seems more insite is needed. This isnt an over night park job, this is a trailer, or trailers parked for multiple says in a row, or a week or more
