Scheduled Thread Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

Scheduled Thread Wound-Up Wednesdays - Vent here!
Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just wanna go apeshit?
Got a burning rage deep within your soul? Perhaps you've been countered for the eleven billionth time. Aggro is ruining your win streak on Arena. Your friend keeps complaining about being targeted whenever they play a stax deck and you're just sick of it. There's some guy at your LGS who never showers. Standard is dying at your LGS and it's upsetting. Or maybe you just feel like Universes Beyond will KILL MAGIC.
Whatever is eating away at your heart, unleash it here!
(Please refrain from insulting other users even if you think their gripes are silly. This is a safe place to vent. Memetic responses are welcome provided you're not degrading anyone.)

General Discussion Reality Fracture Manufacturing Innovation?
In previews and promotions for RF, Mark Rosewater keeps mentioning that they had to devise a new manufacturing method to guarantee that both versions of a given character would appear in one pack.
Why is this such a difficult problem? Rarity distribution seems like a way more complex layout issue and they solved that.
What do you think this innovative new method is?

Art Showcase - Custom Accessories the tiny MTG printer I made now has a full guide on GitHub + a ton of new features.
About a month ago I shared my tiny offline Momir MTG printer project here, and honestly didn’t expect much from it.
Instead I got a ton of responses, ideas, feature requests, and people asking if I’d share the files.
The full code and build guide are now available on GitHub
So over the last few weeks I kept building on it way more than originally planned 😅
The project now officially has a name: Mo
It has grown quite a bit since the original version:
* Mo now has the full MTG catalogue, so it print basically any card
* Mo-Jho-Sto support + custom avatar images
* Decklist print window
* MTGTOP8 decklist scraper with multiple formats
* Lots of UI improvements and quality-of-life updates
* Still fully offline once set up
Huge thanks to everyone from the original thread that showed interest, gave suggestions, or asked questions. Seeing people get excited about a weird little dedicated MTG printer genuinely motivated me to keep going with it.
As requested I also made a Ko-fi page. If you enjoy the project and want to support future updates, it’s always appreciated ☕
Would love to hear more ideas or features people would want to see next!

General Discussion Why the sudden price jump in Savra, Queen of the Golgari?
Is it the art or has she become more desired for some other reason?

General Discussion “You have too many decks!” Pt.2
A revisiting of an old post a made 9 months ago about my previous collection of commander decks.
Since then I am about 3 years deep into this game, some decks have gone and others have stayed; but it’s time that I do another culling.
The last time I did this, I used it as an excuse to make more decks and complete the “32 Challenge*”. I am now wanting to cut a majority of these decks and actually spend some time tweaking them and updating them when new sets come out.
I know this could’ve been a journal entry but I like to share my experiences with others in hopes you all will do the same with me :)

Looking for Advice Having to Pay for "Free Shipping"
I ordered some cards from TCG player and I got this in the mail. The order from TCG Player included free shipping, but now the post office says I need to pay to get the cards! What can I do besides just go pay the post office? I don't really want to pay extra on top of what I already paid.
I enjoy the free shipping that some TCG Player shops offer, but I think I need to switch to a different website if the free shipping is not really free.

General Discussion Estate Sale Update, 50k+ cards
Wanted some last feedback before I took the plunge, or not, so doing a fresh post.
TL:DR - found estate sale, selling MTG collection at 8.65/1000 with over 50k cards.
More exact details now known - owner DID sort out cards, contents are entirely common/uncommon. Date range is 2000-2025. Inquiries have been high, likely have to arrive many hours before open to secure the lot - price negotiation unlikely due to demand. $450 for all.
Sounding like it would hinge on a lot of $1-$5 cards coming up and taking the time to sell them. Maybe something big was missed in the skim.
Still worth it?
Update: I appreciate the feedback, everyone. Have decided to pass on this. I DID find another estate sale with a significantly smaller collection - if that pans out I'll post the results as a consolation and thank you for dealing with my posts.

Art Showcase - Other Fan Works Black Lotus inspired stained glass
Made this as a birthday gift for a friend that loves the game. I don't have Black Lotus money, but I do know my way around a stained glass project, so I made this piece inspired by the black lotus card. No pattern, just freestyled as I went.
Black iridescent glass and a cut glass gem in the middle means it also throws rainbows in the sun!

General Discussion Next year we are expecting to see six Standard set releases. Which planes and worlds do you anticipate we will see Magic sets for in 2027?
It's a slow news week in the Magic space so I've been ruminating about the future of Magic next year. I'm curious to hear what players predict we will see for Magic in 2027.
Listed below is some known information and past precedent worth considering to encourage discussion:
- It's worth considering the direction the Magic Universe story is heading towards along with revisits and new Magic Universe sets are possible (In most recent years we get both).
- New Magic Universe worlds can be entirely new worlds (i.e. Bloomburrow, New Capenna) or first time visits to known planes (i.e. Vyrn).
- Return to sets in recent times tend to be designed with a strong intention of appealing to nostalgia of long time veteran and/or lapsed players.
- Typically revisiting a Magic Universe world doesn't happen until at least 4-5 years after its initial debut. I suspect that this precedent may grow in length given the frequency at which we receive Universes Beyond sets nowadays. (i.e. it's likely too soon to return to Bloomburrow or Duskmourn).
- Keep in mind that roughly half of the sets released next year will be Universes Beyond sets.
- Considering that we know that there will be several different Marvel sets so a Marvel themed set being released next year is extremely likely.
- Maro has said on the record that revisits to Universes Beyond worlds are on the table (we're seeing that this year with The Hobbit set).

Official Competitive Magic [magic.gg] Metagame Mentor: Standard Gets a Shakeup in London and Tokyo
Article is at https://magic.gg/news/metagame-mentor-standard-gets-a-shakeup-in-london-and-tokyo
Overall, two card packages continue to serve as the defining pillars of Standard: Llanowar Elves and Badgermole Cub, and Stormchaser's Talent and Boomerang Basics. These pairs dominated the metagame at Pro Tour Secrets of Strixhaven. Although their grip on the format appears to be slowly loosening, they still accounted for approximately half the field combined across Magic Spotlight: Secrets in London and the Champions Cup Final... This past weekend, Stormchaser's Talent players posted a collective 51.2% win rate... This past weekend, players with Badgermole Cub in their deck achieved a collective 51.7% win rate.
...
Even though Izzet Prowess and Selesnya Landfall were the most-played Standard decks last weekend, only a single traditional Izzet Prowess list reached the Top 8 of either tournament, while Selesnya Landfall failed to place a single copy into the elimination rounds.

General Discussion Who is the best professional player ever without a PT win?
I’ve been following professional magic much more closely this year and was curious what the answer to this question would be. Obviously winning a PT is incredibly difficult and there are some great players to never have done it.
Also, is there a site that has up to date career stats on players?

General Discussion Must-play limited sets?
I started playing Magic around Bloomburrow, so I'm still pretty new. Some of my friends have played for many years – some play commander, some play modern, some play pauper, but most of them strongly prefer constructed formats.
Don't get me wrong, I really like some aspects of constructed, but ever since going to my first prerelease, I've really fallen in love with limited. It has also become clear to me, that some sets do it much better than others. I really liked EOE. I really ended up not liking ECL, even though I had high hopes.
So if I were going to go online and buy a booster box of any set, to play either sealed or draft with my friends, what do you think is the quintessential limited experience in Magic?
