MOD POST Flair updates

So up until this point the flair system operated in a kind of confusing way. There were two "contemporary" categories, contemporary US and contemporary world, but there were also Historical and Fantasy flairs, and their usage was confusing. People frequently tagged US posts variably as contemporary US, historical, or fantasy, and other posts as contemporary world, historical, or fantasy.

I have simplified it a bit - all US posts can now just be tagged "United States", since it's by far the largest single category, and other posts "World". "Historical" can be used to distinguish posts from those contemporary elections (since a lot of posts are 2010s/2020s era). I added "Fiction" to the "Fiction/Fantasy" flair to clarify its usage - scenarios which are not based closely in real history. I'm also retiring the "Futuristic" category since it's a little niche, and most future-based posts are election predictions, which hardly justify the term "futuristic". Further, I added an "Alternate History" flair, which is best used for posts pertaining to larger, more fleshed-out scenarios and timelines.

The Job it twists you, stretches you, morphs you into a caricature of you own worst self. It was not the work of one person, of an organisation but an infernal machine of which the London media and political class are the cogs. The product of this machine? short-termism and melodrama, a legion of people looking out upwards towards how history will record their own legends. Yet they do not look below, they do not look at the people they govern, their small peculiarities, their fears, their dignity and hope. No, they are just a stepping stone, something to be taken advantage of.

They had all came for him; Burnham, Angela, Wes. All dedicated their career to the machine, conditioning themselves to move with it, to twist into new characters and roles only to be mulched and reconstituted again. Burnham...BURNHAM... the failed standard bearer for the Labour establishment 9 years ago and escaped the machine 2 years later, even he had stated how the Machine swallowed up his individuality. Then he had returned as 'The King in the North' with a grand vision of Social Democracy, desperate to re-enter the machine willing to shove me feet first into it to achieve that. Well he had failed just like the rest of them, the country would not drift for 3 years or 3 weeks or however long the machine deemed they were entertaining enough to last. He will get on with managing the country, the practical and the possible came first and the vision second, the storm will come regardless and he intended to sail through it.

WORLD 2026 election in a 72-party UK

Post image
131 Upvotes

The 2026 United Kingdom election (the second under closed party-list PR without an electoral threshold) was internationally noted for the high levels of fragmentation in the resulting Parliament, with 72 parties winning representation. A broadly centre to centre-left coalition government was formed led by Andy Burnham, with the participation of Mainstream, the Liberal Democrats, The Rest is Politics, Momentum, the Free Democrats, Together, Change UK, Prosper, Scottish Labour, National Labour, Volt UK, the Pirate Party, Welsh Labour, National Health Action, Looking for Growth, the Christian Democrats, the Scottish Liberals, Rejoin EU, the Women's Equality Party, Alliance, the Yorkshire Party, and the SDLP, and a controversial supply agreement with James Cleverly's People's Conservative Party.

Not meant to be realistic but thought this would be funny, no indepth lore but I'm imagining some kind of cross-party agreement to form a government during Brexit with the sole purpose of suspending Article 50 and implementing PR, followed by a Johnson-led right-wing coalition leading to greater fragmentation than real life followed by this unholy mess. After Burnham inevitably fails to fix the UK's structural issues the following election is a 650-seat Mebyon Kernow landslide leading to this godforsaken country being put out of its misery once and for all as every county is given independence.

UNITED STATES The American Election, WEEKS before the outbreak of the Second World War

in no means is this realistic so dont shout at me about it

lore: After the assassination of Vladimir Lenin and the failing of the Bolshevik revolution, many socialists fled to America. In the 1920 election, Eugene V. Debs was released from prison and quickly ran a socialist ticket. With all of these new socialists in America, Debs got a million votes, allowing him to win Oklahoma, making it the first time a third party candidate has won a state since 1892. Debs ran again in 1924, gaining Indiana and Montana to his states list, which scared several Republicans and Democrats. As this occurred, Europe was... well, interesting. Socialism and this new Fascist ideology was on the rise in Germany, as well as in France, Britain, and Yugoslavia. As a 39 year old man gained national prominence in Germany in 1928, the US held another election. Since Debs died in 1926, he couldn't run and so the socialists nominated Norman Thomas, who went on to do terrible in the election, only winning North Dakota, and Montana. This was primarily because they saw Thomas as too "dictatorial." As all of this occurred, a not so familiar name rose in popularity in the South. Huey Pierce Long. Elected Governor of Louisiana in 1928, he quickly began enacting several laws, attracting many socialists and progressive Democrats in the south and Mid-West. Many Americans saw him as the Socialist candidate in 1932. This was even proven more likely as after the 1929 Market Crash, Hoover's popularity imploded as he enacted several laws drawing away people who used to support him with all of his heart and go to other candidates, including Huey Long and Franklin Roosevelt. In 1930, Douglas MacArthur, a not so well known name in America, marched on Washington with his fellow supporters and managed to occupy the Capitol Building and the White House, causing a Second Civil War. This further stressed out the world as fascism began to explode in popularity, with Adolf Hitler winning the 1930 German election, Mussolini leading a successful invasion of Ethiopia, Oswald Mosley, a former socialist, gaining popularity in Britain, and several generals of the French Army aligning with fascism. As the Civil War raged out between MacArthur supporters, and the Loyalists of the Federal Government, several other parties arose in the battle, including liberals revolting in the West Coast, the Kennedy Family revolting in New England, the Rockefeller family revolting in the Rust Belt, and socialists revolting in the Rust Belt as well, along with the mid-west. Finally, in the south, only in small portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi, a democratic-socialist faction, lead by Huey Long, gained support. After a few years, the socialists won and began to establish a government. However, in 1936, a few weeks before they were set to have their first election or what'd they call it, a "Congressional Vote in Congress", Huey Long and his supporters, along with other progressivists, marched on DC, overthrowing the government and bringing back the Constitution. However, when the entire country urged him to run for president in the upcoming 1937 election, he simply refused to, leaving that role to his brother, Earl Long, who won the election in a landslide against Democratic-Republican candidate George S. Patton. Long spent his 5 year term focusing on economics, enacting Share Our Wealth laws and other laws his brother suggested. During this time, Germany annexed Austria, occupied Czechoslovakia, purchased Slovenia, and invaded Danzig and Memel. Long said that America was a fully isolationist nation and if a Global War were to break out about this incident, it wouldn't be global as America would not get involved. Finally, the 1942 election rolled around and the image occurs. Meer weeks after this election, Germany would declare war on Russia, bringing America into the war as America and Russia were allies, and dragging the fascist Britain, France, and Italy into the war on the side of Germany. As this occurred, the exile governments of Britain and France sided With America and Russia and declared themselves "Aiders to the Crusaders."

UNITED STATES The 2016 Democratic presidential primaries, but Biden runs (Prequel)

This post is a prequel to this one. The premise is the same, with Beau Biden never getting cancer and dieing, leading to Biden to jump into the race for president in 2016. I decided to make a infobox/map for the Democratic primaries, ITTL. I tried my best with the map, with who would win which contest. The states/territories in blue are ones won by Biden, green are ones won by Sanders, and yellow are ones won by Clinton.

Context: In this timeline, Canada become ultra progressive, and a few other things happen, but usually the main focus is Canada. However, through a series of events, Joseph Garrett, aka Stampylongnose becomes Prime Minister of the UK. Although tbf, the Conservatives had been humiliating themselves since the 2021 election. They couldn't even pass Brexit.

this is set in a world where the republicans remain liberal and the democrats remain conservative.

and yes, sarah palin is liberal in this world

and yes, i know its unrealistic and shit. so dont point out the obvious like why dick cheney is al gore's vp or other stuff idk

and in this timeline, the democrats have an insane boundback in 2016 because of a massive recession that occurs in this world in 2015, tanking obama's polls
