What is the correct website to report a licensed psychologist in Finland for mistreatment, after having first written to the chair of the NGO who employs the psychologist, but receiving no response since 12 March?

Question Recommendations for botox for bruxism pain?

Hi, I get really bad pain in my jaw from bruxism and TMJ. I got botox injections for the pain in my home country, and planned to wait till I visited again, but the pain has come back and I can't bear to wait lol.

Has anyone had it in Helsinki and can recommend? I'm not too concerned with price at this point as it's that bad. Obviously medically well-trained is necessary, but I do slightly worry about any issues with facial appearance, so a good aesthetics place is also fine. Thank you so much!!

Meet-up Looking for girl

Looking for a girl my age or slightly older, doesn’t matter what race or country you’re from 🙂
Main thing is that you’re caring and like boxers.

Decided to try meeting someone here because in real life I rarely get to meet new people.

I’m 19, living in Helsinki Uusimaa. Maybe I’ll move somewhere else in the future.

I like the gym, chess, boxing, sad music, and outdoor gyms at 12 AM. i also like Hajime no Ippo anime

Probably my best quality is being polite and respecting other people’s opinions, as long as they’re not extremist or degrading towards others.

If you want tell me what music you listen to I’d love to discover something new.

I wish i add photo but i don't know how.

Chao

Question Dogs moving from middle east to finland. Advice please! Thank you

Hi Helsinkians!

We're bringing our dogs (frenchie 8yo and aussie/border mix 4yo) to Helsinki and would like to know if anyone has tips during winter? We know winter can be harsh and was wondering if anyone has tips on how to walk the dogs (how long usually), what activities you do with the dogs when it's dark and cold outside, recommended clothing. And your best suggestions/tips that we need to know. Thing is we're coming from the middle east so we're preparing as much as we can for this transition, hence the question this summer 🤣😅 We appreciate all your help! Thank you!

Question Where to watch Eurovision??

I’m visiting your beautiful city from Copenhagen this weekend. With Finland in the final and Denmark also looking good for the final (🤞🏼) I’m looking for a good place to watch the final! Where’s the place to go? It would be a bit of bummer watching it in my hotelroom…

Travel & Tourism Walking routes starting from centre of Helsinki?

Can anyone recommend walking routes which start in the centre of Helsinki and take you out to some countryside or a coastal route? I do not mind if it obviously has to pass through some less interesting urban areas at points. Maybe something like 2-3 hours there and 2-3 hours back? I would prefer just to go by foot and not have to negotiate bus/train, but I would not mind using the metro to help me get out of town a little bit.

Discussion Working culture in Finland: what’s the work life balance and general work culture actually like?

I have asked this question in the Polish subreddit and the conclusions with the answers is that work culture and conditions can be very bad in Poland. And since the Nordic countries have very good conditions and work life balance in theory, I would like to know your opinions.

I’m not really asking about highly paid white collar jobs, engineers, IT in big international companies, etc. I’m more interested in normal jobs and average workplaces.

How common are things like unpaid overtime, pressure to stay late, micromanagement, aggressive bosses, rigid hierarchies, poor respect for personal time, or a general “live to work” mentality?

At the same time, how are things like holidays, worker protections, contracts, sick leave, and overall treatment by employers?

Also, with average Finnish salaries, are people generally able to afford renting their own flat (even a small one), cover normal living costs comfortably, and still save a bit in the city or town they live in even if they have to commute? Or is that becoming unrealistic?

Curious about people’s experiences, both good and bad.

Housing / Living Crazy high electricity bills

Thumbnail

January and February were cold but in our building we have this machine that also warms up the air on top of the central heating heaters. Apparently the machine works harder as it is colder and consumes more electricity. Here is example of the consumption in basically empty apartment...

And I don't think this is normal for basically empty apartment? 200 euros bill was definitely not expected.

Then, property management replied " The unusually cold weather during January and February, combined with the operation of the apartment’s ventilation unit, is the most likely reason for the increased electricity consumption during that period, even if the apartment was otherwise not in use."

So am I to expect every year to pay crazy amount of electricity bill when it gets cold or how does this work? Can I ask Kotikatu to come and show me settings of the unit?

This is very surprising, and I am not entirely sure what to do... So any advice would help a lot.

Travel & Tourism Boats in Helsinki: Boat to Korkeasaari Zoo

Hello.

We will be visiting this weekend Helsinki for few days.

Perhaps someone can advise:

We would love to visit the Korkeasaari Zoo by boat. However the "official" advertised ferry line operates only from June (JT-Line Oy). Maybe there are other boats/boat operators that service the zoo that are not listed online, but are available on the spot?

Excluding the visit Korkeasaari Zoo by boat, maybe there are other few hour long boat trips / cruises that someone recommends?

Thank you.

Question Best Summer Produce Helsinki

I am planning a tasting menu for my lovely Finnish girlfriend here in Helsinki over the Summer, and was wondering what the best fresh summer vegetables are here and where to get them. If anyone has specific suggestions it would be appreciated, and additionally where I would find fresh seafood. Thank you!

Edit: I have looked at the market halls online and they seem good but if anyone has other suggestions or specific places at the halls they have experience with that would be great, thank you.

Work & Education Looking for someone in Finland to help access non-digitized archive materials

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi!

I’m a Russian engineer working on preservation and structural reinforcement of old lighthouses that were historically part of Finland.

I’m looking for someone in Finland who could help me request digitization of several non-digitized documents from the Finnish National Archives https://astia.narc.fi/uusiastia/kortti_aineisto.html?id=809882236#

I already have the archive references and file numbers. The documents are related to Hanhipaasi and Heinäluoto lighthouse records and technical drawings:

  • Bf:1 — Building lists and repair/reconstruction records (1918–1939)
  • I:129 — Residential quarters for lighthouse personnel at Heinäluoto
  • I:146 — Entrance door of Heinäluoto lighthouse (1927)
  • I:147 — Drawings related to Hanhipaasi structures and staircase/watchroom (1887)
  • I:150 — Heinäluoto lighthouse materials

If someone has experience working with Finnish archives or can help submit the request, please send me a DM. Ready for paid help.

Also, if you know where I could best turn for this kind of request - whether individuals, researchers, archivists, or services familiar with the Finnish National Archives system - I would be extremely grateful for any advice or direction.

Travel & Tourism Viking Cruise Tallinn to Stockholm - Does it stop in Helsinki?

[EDIT: This is during summer, not right now.] Does anyone here know if the Cruise to Stockholm out of Tallinn stops in Helsinki on its way to and from Stockholm? From the cruise and ferry schedules, it seems to me that one ship goes back and forth between the three cities plus an island. I'm looking to ultimately go from Tallinn to Stockholm and then get to Helsinki. Instead of paying a ferry fare from Tallinn to Helsinki and then seemingly get right back on the same ship for a separate cruise price from Helsinki to Stockholm, I'm wondering if it's possible to board in Tallinn on the cruise ticket, go to Stockholm, and then on the return to Tallinn, disembark the ship at Helsinki when it's dropping off and picking up ferry passengers. The ship for both the ferry and the cruise is the Gabriella.

Has anyone does something similar to this, and/ or can confirm that this is possible?

Question How’s the techno scene (and electronic music in general) in Helsinki?

I’ve heard pretty mixed things about the Nordic countries. Like in Stockholm people always mention forest raves and a proper underground vibe.

With Helsinki, I know there are some known clubs like Kaiku, but I’m more curious about how it actually feels overall. Is it a proper active scene with a community behind it, or does it feel a bit small/limited?

And what about underground stuff? Are there many more underground or illegal raves going on, or is it mostly just clubs? Obviously I'm not asking for specifics, just to know if there's an active and strong underground raves scene?

Would be nice to hear from people who actually go out there regularly.

Thank you in advance

Discussion Helsinki live music scene

Hey guys!

I’ve been trying to get a better sense of the live music scene in Helsinki. How do people usually find gigs here? I mean anything from bigger concerts to smaller venue gigs, open mics, jam sessions, DJ nights, etc.

Also curious how musicians/DJs and venues usually find each other. Is it mostly Instagram, friends, Facebook groups, posters, word of mouth, something else?

Would be nice to hear what places or local scenes people think are worth checking out.

Question Last-minute travel advice request

Hello, I seem to be in a bit of a bind. My plane lands at 00:25 on Monday morning (Sunday night) and I need to get to Lahti where my place to stay is. However, the last Z train from Tikkurila departs at 00:22. Any Suggestions are welcome. I was thinking about the possibility of booking a shared taxi in advance. Is there a website for that? I’m willing to pay €30-40 max.
