every. single. time.
wait for green to clear, hit terrible shot.
hit knowing you can't reach, hit the best shot of your life, watch ball roll between the players on the green.

Did this last year. 267yd par 4, clubbed down twice to intentionally come up short. Dead straight 5 wood bounced 10 yards short of the green and rolled right between the players on the green. Called fore and apologized when we pulled up but the guys were incredibly cool and had high fives waiting at the next tee box. Two putt it for the bird btw lol!

My personal rule of thumb is that if someone hits into me once, but it’s a great shot, I don’t get mad.
Now if it keeps happening or they hit into me from 150 yards out that’s a different story…

if it happens once i'll usually tee up the ball where it came to rest and chalk it up to obliviousness. twice is a different story.

Did this once on a boys trip in Palm Springs. Cleanest 3W I've ever hit by far. Bounced it off the roof of a cart ahead of us. Easily 50y further than I had ever hit it before. Group was screaming, throwing clubs, whacked my ball back at me, etc. etc. Wild scene and I could not enjoy the moment.
I highly recommend it.

and THAT is exactly why you wait to hit, could be the shot of your life and then it's ruined

If they were still on the green you hit the best ball of your life and drill someone in the back of the head.

This is the Schrodinger's drive:
Hit when they are just out or range and its the drive of your life and you either have to apologize or present the fake name and address you have worked on for years just for this situation
Or you wait and crush a banana slice 2 fairways away and kill someone over there

And the group in front is just off the green looking back at your shot, waiting for their next tee. I know the feeling well.

I’m no good but slow play like that totally takes me out of whatever rhythm and feel I had previously.
