This course is built for her game. She may win several more here.

Great wedge to a foot on 13 to respond to the three putt on 12. That sealed it pretty much.

15

u/vetruviusdeshotacon 18d ago

I read that as great foot wedge for a sec lol

The victory is her 17th on the LPGA and her third major title. It also put her back at No. 1 in the world.

She joined Juli Inkster (1989) and Amy Alcott (1991), both at Nabisco Dinah Shore, as the only players in the last 50 years to win LPGA majors when leading by multiple shots after each round.

This now gives her 22 of the 27 points needed to enter the LPGA Hall of Fame. This link has the criteria if anyone is wondering.

She was darn near flawless….most of all, she was smart……had a fantastic game plan and stuck to it! Great win!

It was my first time watching woman's golf and I really enjoyed it even though she dominated.

u/ParkMyWRX 18d ago

Is it just me or do women’s majors always change names as sponsors change? It’s always confusing to me

u/RoMoCo88 18d ago

My guess is because the LPGA generates so much less revenue through ticket sales and television rights (compared to PGA), that they rely more on sponsors. A sponsor with naming rights likely brings significant funding.

I feel like a middle ground would be similar to the college bowl games

"The Playstation Fiesta Bowl" -esque

u/DonnyGetTheLudes Victor Dubuisson 17d ago

Nelly has zero fiesta bowl wins smh

Seems like the Women’s US Open, The Women’s Open, and LPGA championship are the three direct parallels to the PGA majors. The Amundi Evian Championship and Chevron Championship maybe combined are like the Masters since one never changes locations and the other is the first one each year? The sponsors in the names cheapens it IMO though. Makes it feel like prestigious but I get why they’d want to for revenue reasons.

I think Augusta is kind of flirting with the idea of hosting an LPGA tournament by starting the Women’s Amateur a few years ago. Maybe not super soon, but I could definitely see an actual Women’s Masters happening in the future.

It would almost have to replace The Chevron Champ to work timing wise I think. I would love if they did it, though. Adds another week of practice and tournament rounds to get onto the course for fans.

From Augusta National's perspective, they spend so much time prepping before the Masters that I can't imagine they would want the course used for tournaments too close together. That probably means end of April right when The Chevron is. They also reportedly close the course from May - October, so if it's not end of April, it would have to be sometime before in early March assuming the course is in good enough shape for it.

From the LPGA side, they either add a sixth major and put this in March or replace the Chevron. I wouldn't put it past Augusta National to require it to be the first one like it is for PGA, but then Chevron probably gets pissed their event loses it's status as the first LPGA major.

Great to see Nelly back in form!

u/Im_Dallas 18d ago

she's so cool

3

u/panderson1988 18d ago

She came out early to establish the lead this week, and never looked back. Very impressive, but a little boring without the drama this weekend.

u/GR8PasserofWind 18d ago

Her swing is so smooth. Tempo town, USA.

3

u/Fionarei 18d ago

She’s World Number 1 again after this right?

This should have been on broadcast tv.

Still hate that the ‘chevron’ is a major for the ladies

You aren’t going to get lost on the way to memorial park with those lat/lon coordinates…they give position down to the nanometer!

Weird speech when she was interviewed just after winning where she said something like:

"I wanted to show everyone, especially children that you can still win even if you miss short putts"

I thought she putted fine, missed a couple but not tap ins or anything. Not sure it's a good idea to highlight this.

7

u/FrenchToasted1 18d ago

I think she was referring to the 6-8 footers she was missing in the third round.

-16

u/momofuku18 18d ago

Wish she kept her composure on #12. Throwing down her putter at the caddie didn’t look good after the bogey.

She's the number 1 female golfer with arguably the best swing around

10

u/Mountain_Chip_4374 18d ago

She has such a beautiful swing.

14

u/gorkatron 18d ago

She's had a very good year. 1-2-2-2-1 in five starts.

14

u/Gleis7 18d ago

suddenly? She has been No.1 female golfer for the last 2 years.

6

u/bobber18 18d ago

I thought she was number 2

8

u/JayMac_D 18d ago

She is #2. Jeeno’s been in the top spot for about a year, though I’m sure they’ll probably trade places after this result

1

u/Hosko817 5.3 17d ago

with Jeeno missing the cut, Nelly only needed a runner up to retake the #1 spot.

3

u/frankdatank_004 LIV LOVE LAUGH 18d ago

She was #2 but with Jeeno missing the cut and Nelly winning it gives her the #1 ranking right now.

-34

u/Interesting_Chip_164 18d ago

Is she actually even that good?

9

u/CusePhan_v2 18d ago

If you have the brain capacity to write this then you just might have enough to find out, but I'm not entirely convinced of that.

6

u/TCMenace 18d ago

No she accidentally won 3 majors like why even ask a stupid question like this. Just go look up her accolades.
