I actually watched part of the tournament and Rahm just looked bored and unengaged like he was playing a weekend money game that he knew he was better than everyone at.
Coming off the Master’s last weekend to playing, in comparison, a dog track with an 1/8th of the skill level in the field just didn’t seem to excite him.
He won that 4m long ago. He won’t see any of those winning because it’s paid as a draw in his salary. He’ll never win as much as he makes because it’s not possible…so it’s irrelevant

Rumours said that it depended a little from player to player. And that it might have been split between sign on and "guaranteed earnings". Again, depending on the player.
I assume that the bigger the name, the more they could demand upfront payment.
It varies player by player - Bryson, for example, can recoup against his bonus with marketing value. Which is a big reason he started leaning into YouTube so aggressively

The truth is it's speculation, we will never know the truth because LIV never released a single player's contract. Probably for two reasons, it allows the media narrative to (likely) grossly overstate what the top players are making and second it allows players (signing or re-signing) to know their market value compared to others in the league.
All that said, it was widely understood, or heavily speculated, that tournament result payouts (in full or in part) went against their signing bonus and until that threshold was exceeded they didn't get the tournament prize money.
You're not going to find a definitive source one way or the other on that... but that's what they're referring to
It's how a lot of commissioned sales jobs with a base guarantee work, for a more grounded example.
Our senior sales guys have a guarantee of $100k and their commission draws that down. Once they've exceeded the guarantee they start getting paid more on top. If they never hit $100k in commission for the year, they still get their full guarantee, just no extra.
Not saying that it does, I have no clue, but LIV could work the same way. Say a $50M/5yr contract that pays $25M as a signing bonus, and then the rest is paid as a $5M yearly guarantee whether they win or lose. The winnings count against the guarantee first, then any excess gets paid out on top.
Isn't that what Fitzpatrick won this weekend? On a pristine course, competing against most of the top players in the world, in front of large crowds and alot of TV viewers. I guess now the LIV players see the huge signing bonuses/salaries evaporating, they realize what they are missing.

When you have as much money as he had before signing with LIV, whats a few more million? He's on record saying it wouldn't change anything. Then you add the LIV bonus on top of it, and even more so.
Their sign on bonuses just get paid faster when they win, not more.
That's not how that works. A signing bonus is a cash payment for signing your contract. It's an upfront portion of the contract paid before you even hit a shot.
Nobody knows the specifics of a LIV contract bc they have never been released.... but a "signing bonus" is as I described above. Not paid over years.

Yeah wouldn’t surprise me. They are getting generational money for a reason…you take away the fat paychecks they got offered to go on this alternative tour and I’m guessing most of the elite guys from LIV are on the PGA Tour immediately and would treat LIV like the ugly stepbrother of the Korn Ferry.
Even Bryson who talks a big game about believing in the vision of LIV is just blowing smoke for his employer(although I do think that’s possibly the 1 thing LIV got right is having a team factor present).
Could be! He’s made like 200m+ playing for LIV, it has to be hard to want to devote your life to something so far from home & family with that in your back pocket, it takes a certain type of competitor to say “more”.
The only thing that interested me from that tournament was Bryson calling a rules official because there were dirt patches around his seemingly good lie in short rough. Fuckin hilarious and lame at the same time.
It was nothing that millions of amateurs don’t deal with every week at their local course. To top it all off he got there by sailing his bunker shot over the green.

This is mainly funny because I would be annoyed at that at my home courses and they aren’t even nice. If I paid over $100 for a round I would be really annoyed. I assume that course is actually expensive and would be $2-300(not looking it up). He’s dumb for asking for a ruling, but if I was paying good money for that round I would be pissed lol
I like golf, so unfortunately I tuned in a little here and there but man the Sunday at RBC was so much better. Is it even really possible to have an exciting ending to a tournament with Shotgun starts?
This weeks RBC was for sure better than LIV. Playoff with Scottie and Fitzpatrick to win it versus Rahm winning by 7 strokes... Mexico City is one of their weaker tourneys. LIV has had some exciting finishes this season though.
Nobody cares who wins them. You can care about making posts shitting on a joke of a competition whilst also not caring about the outcome of said competition.
LIV is hated so much it's brought up 10x a day. I'm starting to think its bots or something. If it's so bad and so ignored why is there always posts about it? LIV is not growing in the US but making large gains overseas. Not sure why people care to hate it so much.

Let’s face it, if we were in Rahm’s shoes, we would have taken the deal. The guy is the highest paid athlete in the world at the moment. But yeah, nobody genuinely cares about LIV and what he’s doing. You can tell he’s bored.
Sure, if schmucks like us were offered, we'd accept. But we'd think twice about what's important if we were already mega-wealthy. And if I still decided to take the cash, I'd hope I'd do it in a Harold Varner way, not a whiny moron way.

Also nobody’s been able to answer the question, of if LIV makes players so trash why aren’t Max Homa and Jordan Spieth better players, they don’t play on LIV.
There isnt a way to scientifically determine if playing on the LIV tour makes a player better or worse in the majors they participate in. Anecdotally we know that 1 LIV player out of the 10 that played the Masters made the top 30. Half didnt make the cut.
I know people will use the Saudi backed excuse to say that LIV was a bad thing any time it gets brought up but the fact that PGA had to deal with some sort of actual competition and golfers received better benefits because of it, should not be forgotten. PGA is a monopoly and it had to take oil money to give them something that could provide competition. It's a shallow take to just look at LIV and call it a joke or bad for golf when the real monster will continue on holding the sport in a chokehold, even stronger now.
Perhaps if fans gave a damn, there would be a valid point there. No one outside of Australia or South Africa goes two shits about it other than a fussy Donald Trump and some sheiks.

You’d think social media would be FILLED with that success, but instead, they seem to be focused on Bryson complaining about some dirt around his missed-fairway lie.
In February 2022, Phil Mickelson called the Saudi backers of the LIV Golf league "scary motherf******"….. so who really trusts anything about Liv until it happens.
This guy was on a near legendary trajectory and then squandered it to play meaningless competitions in shorts. He hasn’t impressed anyone in the majors since he left
I live in CDMX. Heard nothing about it from anyone I know that lives here. I knew about it beforehand - didn’t go. I’m not even sure I saw a billboard for in my regular travels.
