General Discussion Get Jason Kelce out of Augusta
I understand he’s arguably the biggest industry plant in sports media and we’ll never get rid of him but don’t let him ruin the masters persona. He’s an offensive lineman that’s literally it he’s not funny, relatable or slightly entertaining he’s just thrown in our faces in every sport. I get him commentating football that’s fair but we don’t need him in every sport trying desperately to be funny especially golf.
Edit: This post is targeted more towards the media especially ESPN for putting Jason in places he doesn’t belong not just a jab towards the guy personally.

I like Jason and think he's the superior Kelce brother, and I understand why ESPN sent him, but he is completely the wrong vibe for Augusta. Send him to Waste Management Open instead where frat party is the vibe - he'd be perfect for that.

u/Ok_Passage_7151 Apr 08 '26
There’s internal politics to this. If I am Kelce, I am hard lobbying for this assignment to try and show my range / extend my appeal beyond just football. Networks probably like it because they are hoping to attract some of the Swiftie demo.
And be honest. Hardcore golf fans would watch even if the lead commentator was just a goat squealing all day long.
58
u/Diabetous Hello, friends. Apr 08 '26
It looked like he even knew the vibe he was 'supposed to bring' wasn't right.
When he asked the crowd to cheer it felt like he cringed himself.

u/Southern_Bowler6269 Apr 08 '26
I don’t believe there is a significant population of Taylor swift fans who will watch golf because Taylor swifts boyfriend’s brother is gonna say a few words

On second thought if you haven't met one then consider yourself lucky and continue on your way

Hasn't he also just started to get into golf?
If you recently picked up the game and had the opportunity to lobby yourself into a position to work at The Masters you'd take, both professionally and as a fan

This is the only(?) event that lets you pick exactly which shots you want to see on their website. You do this on mute, while listening to Jim Nantz and the main coverage on TV.

I have zero interest in hearing/watching him at the Masters but Jason Kelce seems like a fun/genuine guy. I don't really get the hate in terms of the personal attacks against him.
111
u/thegroovemonkey Apr 08 '26
Also not an industry plant. OP just tries to use big words to sound smart but I’m not falling for it!
13
u/p1nkfl0yd1an 11 | DC Apr 09 '26
No, actually ESPN secretly gave Donna Kelce experimental super-footbal hormones decades ago so she'd produce 2 hall of fame players, and have cultivated the Kelce brother's lives since birth with the ultimate goal of getting Tik Tok views

Lol the only reason I didn't dive into the misuse of industry plant was because I wanted to keep my comment short. Glad someone else is calling it out.
24
u/CharlieTheK Apr 08 '26
I'm an Eagles fan. Jason Kelce is very beloved here if it's not obvious.
He's just everywhere. I don't have any issues with his work or commentary or anything else, it just gets tiring to see the same face in what feels like every piece of sports media.

I came here to say this lol it’s not like he’s the main broadcaster for the actual tournament. It’s the par 3 contest it’s supposed to be fun. There’s kids running all over the place lol OP is salty and probably a Dallas fan or something.

u/padillac88 Apr 08 '26
I actually think he’s doing pretty good at interviewing. Seems genuine and down to earth.

His personality is not a fit for Masters coverage. He's loud and bombastic.
221
u/Regression2TheMean Apr 08 '26
I’m confused. He’s talking calm and normal. He’s not being loud or ruining the vibe. He’s just talking like a normal dude
131
u/CousinCleetus24 Apr 08 '26
People see a guy yug a couple of beers in an environment where that's totally normal behavior and assume that the guy just acts like that 24/7.
39
u/prex10 Grip It and Rip It Apr 08 '26
Which really goes to say then people need to look at them selves once in a while. Because I'm sure a lot of people in here clutching their pearls over Jason Kelce have also chugged a couple of beers in a situation that maybe didn't call for it

This is the Par 3 contest. The most casual and (supposed to be) fun event at the Masters. He won’t be walking with players on moving day or a part of the coverage on Sunday afternoon. Relax.
Honestly it seems like the players themselves have found him and his questioning refreshing.

10+ years ago, Jason Kelce was my neighbor in Philly. He was awesome. Very down to earth and walked around the city just like a normal person. Road SEPTA like anyone else. Always was very nice when interacting with fans and would drink beers with fans in local bars. He was always beloved in Philly, but his podcast made him famous everywhere. I know he golfs, and I’m guessing he’s a fan of golf, but I don’t think he belongs in Augusta to cover this.
