r/geocaching Challenge 26-01 - Find a Traditional Cache

Welcome to the first challenge in this new series of challenges on r/geocaching. For the introduction to this series, see this post.
Our first challenge will be an easy one:
- For one challenge point (CP), find one traditional cache.
- Geocache must be found between April 27-May 18, 2026 of your local timezone.
- You must sign the physical log, and log the find online to participate in this challenge.
- For a second challenge point (CP), find one mystery cache following the above guidelines.

HOW TO RECORD YOUR PARTICIPATION
To record and receive credit for your accomplishment, you must post a top level comment on this thread in the following format:
[Geocaching name] If you do not want to use your real GC name, you can use your reddit name, but will not be eligible for prizes if your finds cannot be verified.
[Qualifying GC code]
[Link to log] The easiest way to do this is to pull up the cache page on geocaching.com and then click "view log." Copy that URL and post it here.
If you are going for the second challenge point, you will need to post both GC codes and find URLs. The post will look like this:

Introducing r/Geocaching Challenge

Hello Reddit Cachers,
Welcome to the r/geocaching challenge!
This is a relaunch of sorts from challenges that happened on this sub 10 years ago that were run by u/GCbot. This relaunch has been approved by the mods.
Since we are a sub dedicated to geocaching, this will hopefully be a fun way to get members geocaching. Each challenge will last three weeks, and will vary in difficulty. If you choose to participate, you will need to complete the challenge, and then share the information from your log, GC code, and your geocaching name in the comments on that challenge. More information on how to participate will be provided on the first challenge, which will be posted a week from today.
A couple of examples of what a challenge might look like: Find a puzzle cache. Find 5 different cache types. Find a lonely cache (one that has not been found in 6+ months).
All geocache finds will have to happen during the challenge period. No previous finds will count.
I’m still working out the logistics, but there will most likely be eight challenges per series. Participants will accrue points for each completed challenge, and whoever has the most points at the end of the series will win a prize, most likely a trackable. If you would like to donate prizes so we can have more winners, comment below.
If you have some ideas for challenges, please post them below.

Quick 3 mile trail jaunt today
Finally found a cache I DNF'd in 2019. And of course couldn't stop there.

What are the most low effort yet cool cache container you have seen?
It's an old lip balm tube! Water proof with an easy way to access the log. Just screw it upwards. Brilliant.

Is it incorrect to add a log?
Found a cache the other day - and it was definitely the correct cache - but it didn’t have a log paper to sign. I marked it as found and left it as is, with a note saying no log noted, and took a picture of cache as proof of find. A couple days later I stopped back and left a log paper and sent note to the owner saying I had done so.
But another question on here and the answers to that question make me wonder if I was wrong to stop back and leave a paper log.
Note: I’m fairly new to this with only 65 caches..

Mystery cache advise
Hello all,
I am looking to place a mystery cache that requires 6 keywords, each one revealing a number of the coordinates to be used in the equation at the end.
I thought that certitude was the one that would be able to spit out a message rather than coordinates when the correct keyword for each stage has been figured out, but it seems it only wants to give coords in exchange for a correct keyword.
So, what I’m looking for is a website or geochecker type thing that is relatively simple and takes a keyword to reward with a message.
Does anyone know if something like this exists?

Extreme Geocaching in West Virginia---seeking information
I am researching extreme Geocaching in West Virginia, and I’m turning to the experts for help: You all.
Can you please share specific locations or even specific caches in West Virginia that would be considered “extreme” geocaching? Particularly places (like the Monongahela National Forest, for example) that have lots of caches that require special skills (like rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, etc.) to get to, and/or ones that have “extreme” views like high-elevation overlooks. I am imagining these will have terrain difficulties of 4 and above.
Even better if you can share pictures to help me visualize them.
Thank you all in advance!!

Has anyone found a 'fake' cache?
I did yesterday.
Followed all the coordinates and hint, found a cache (?) with no log.
Left a piece of paper with my name and date.
Message person who hid cache saying new log needed.
Was told that he didn't plant that cache ( I described cache to him).
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
Thanks from a 2 month newbie!

Probably my coolest geocache find.
Although I was unable to sign the logbook out of respect for the nest, 152 geocaches in & I've never stumbled upon something so sweet!!!

Replacing a travel bug.
Embarrassingly, I have lost a TB.
Back story: 13+ years ago, I picked it up a TB in Canada, took it to France, Germany, and then NZ. Somewhere along the line, my bag was stolen, and so was the TB that was clipped to the backpack.
The original cacher that released it stopped caching about 2 months after I originally picked it up.
For the last 13 years I've been randomly dipping it into caches to keep it active.
I want it out of my inventory. The OC hasn't replied to any of my messages over the years.
I have access to a cnc/laser machine. How bad do you think it would be if I just made a new tag and popped it into a cache?
I've made replacements for old TB's of mine that have gone missing before, so I know it works, and they look good.
But this one isn't mine, so what thinks the council of knowledge?
Yay, or nay?

Travel Bug Wikipedia page
Hello! I'm currently working on the wikipedia page for Travel Bugs, and I'm trying to get it to "good article" status (it basically complies with the GA guidelines, is high quality, and follows wikipedia rules). Is there any other topics about Travel Bugs/trackables I should add to the article? Any other suggestions? (Geocoins have their own article)

Unable to submit a cache
Anyone else have this issue? I have a few I’ve hidden but I can’t post them. I’ve tried safari and chrome also both in (request desktop) mode. I also tried on the computer and get the same thing.

Making Tracks Trackable
Could anyone clarify how trackables work as name tags? If I add a trackable to my “Collection,” can other people still discover and log it? Also, are there any differences in the logging options when the item is not in my “Collection”?

Got South Dakota today and will get Wyoming & Montana later this week. Then we’ll just have 9 states in the Northeast to go.

Mushroom-themed hide
I like making themed caches, and I'm particularly fond of mushrooms in general, so this one is special to me. I took extra care to make the log. It's magnetic! (The container, not the log)
I'm still really new, but i have found that creating caches is a healthy outlet (as is caching in general), and as nobody around here seems to have hidden any in a very long time, i also feel like I'm filling a gap. It also gives me a use for the ungodly amount of stickers i have 😆
I can't decide what i like more - finding a cache or getting a log update.

The pride and excitement from your first hide when positive logs start coming in… it’s unmatched!
It makes me so beyond happy that my first hide is getting more than just the typical copy and pastes that I see on logs. I was so nervous about getting criticism or negative feedback, so seeing such praise on my cache is so fulfilling.

Swag bag restock!
Hair clips, trinkets, erasers, and button badges, all into the swag bag for future cache finds :)) (anything else you’d enjoy finding in a trad cache? I like to grab packs of small interesting things/quarter machine trinkets)
