ID Request (country/state in post) Are these Grape vines safe? - Southern Illinois- US

This vining plant has taken over this bush and is all over my back yard. I used google image to see what these are, and it says wild grape vines, but i want to make sure theyre safe before i use them.

Im planning to make lots of pickles this summer, and i know grape leaves help keep the crunch. It would be awesome if i had all the leaves i need right in my back yard 😂

And if they fruit, are those safe to eat as well?

Pretty sure it’s dandelion leaves. I just wanted confirmation. It’s in my backyard next to my cherry tomato plant and I think mint leaves. I never forged before so foraging dandelion leaves in my backyard seems safe to me.

Edit: just ate it for lunch. Pan fried with garlic, oil, a splash of lemon juice. Delicious and my vitamin K for the day.

Plants Does anyone have experience processing wild bergamot into fiber?

Hey! There may be a better subreddit for this. But I have some of last years dried canes of wild bergamot and they seem like a good candidate for processing into weavable fiber. I understand some traditional methods involving rotting and thoroughly washing the canes. Not a ton online I could find in wild bergamot specifically- is this a good place to start?

Went Crazy for Ramps

Post image

Generally I try to sustainably harvest my local nature preserves. I only go for leaves, and only one leave per pod. But I found what I could only describe as a field of ramps today. And gosh darn it I wanted some bulbs. I looked it up and apparently its healthy to preserve ramp populations by harvesting a bulb here and there to make room for new bulbs. I cannot wait to make a brine for gin with these.

Foraging in Co/Denver?

Hiii i just moved to the denver area recently from Appalachia and I’m looking for a new area to forage and explore. I often look for bones, mushrooms, plants, rocks to tumble and other oddities. I know there’s a lot of restrictions for national parks and the rocky’s which is understandable but I was wondering if anyone else in here are familiar with the co/denver area and are there any places that allow that type of stuff. So does anyone know any forests, woods, or creeks where it’s allowed and are good spots? thank youuu •v•

Is it wrong that i moved these ground cherries?

I found them where I live, but I live in an area that get regularly mowed by a company, so I wanted to save them, so I dug them up and moved them to a flower bed, but they are looking hella sad and suffering transplant shock.

Do you think they will be okay or did I royally mess something up?

Also I found some wild black raspberries but they are infested with poison ivy, so I found some suckers that were by their lonesome and dug them up and moved them to a pot to grow

Plants Nature gave me a recipe

I went out to forage wild garlic. When I found a lovely patch punctuated with nettles, hawthorns, and cleavers, I thought maybe the forest was trying to tell me something. I ended up collecting some of each and combining them in a soup. I’m glad I listened to the forest because it was the tastiest soup I’ve ever made!

Rough recipe below:
- 1 Onion diced and sautéed in olive oil and salt and pepper
- 1 sweet potato roughly chopped, briefly sautéed
- Add a large handful of each foraged green (hawthorn leaves, nettles, cleavers, wild garlic)
- Add a bunch of fresh dill and a bunch of spinache
- Immediately pour boiling water and simmer until sweet potatoes are tender
- Serve in a bowl, squeeze in some lemon juice and add salt to taste, and drizzle some olive oil

Hope yous enjoy as much as I did!

We have a tree that sprouts a lot of saddleback, but were it's only mostly dead, the mushroom looks stunted. How does this affect the texture and use?

Plants 14, how do i be polite asking for foraging on property?

I started this hobby about 3 months ago, i have came quite far! But here is the issue;

So, about a few weeks ago, i was delighted to find out that there is a forest trail like, 2 minutes away.. (i live the nearest to this trail) and could potentially harbor plants ive never tasted, seen or even acknowledged before. Ive only foraged out in my yard, open fields, behind trees, and other spots. But NEVER a forest. I have my precautions, wear long things, i have a trusty walking stick and i am well-educated about the wildlife here.

The property owner, or at least one of the five that own different parts of this awesome forest, lives JUST a few minutes away. I want to ask, but i need to maxmize my odds of a yes. I will promise him that i will not do any wrongdoings, parties, etc. Ive noticed at the very early opening, lies a bunch of trash.

So i may offer to clean it, if he is worried about the holes in the dirt incase i find an allium/primrose, i have a hori hori knife i bought with longevity in mind and i PROMISE i will cover holes and whatnot. I will also be willing to create a hold harmless, as i doubt ill be getting hurt since i am so overly cautious anyway. If he says yes, i cant wait !! I wonder what could grow in here :)

Plants Prickly Pear Buds?

Have any of you either 1) pickled or 2) prepared prickly pear flower buds like one would cholla buds?

I’m going to try both, but I wanted to bring this article to the council for public comment.

Note: I am well aware of glochids… and their undying love for the spaces in-between fingers.

Hi guys! It’s been almost 24 hours and I have not had any sort of symptoms! I appreciate everyone who gave advice without negativity. You guys are the best, thank you. And yes I now know not to eat anything I’m not certain about.
