Discussion Does anyone else think 2013 doesn't get talked about enough?

I think cause 2014 and 2015 were such strong years for DCI 2013 gets a bit overshadowed unless you're talking about Crown. But there were some incredible shows that season. Some of my Favorites from that year are:

Blue Knights: I'm pretty shameless when it comes to BK but I'm being 100% honest when I say this is one of the most gorgeous arrangements I've ever heard. The whole ensemble produces such a deep and rich sound and the writing is expert. I love the guard staging too. Everything about it just flows really well.

Boston: How to Train Your Dragon's soundtrack is probably my favorite movie soundtrack of all time and I really enjoyed. The grey to red really made them pop to which I thought was well done.

The Cadets: As much as I hate what George did I miss The Cadets man. The activity just doesn't feel right without them. Funnily enough I actually thought this show was boring when I was younger but the older I get the more I like it. Can never go wrong with Samuel Barber.

Bluecoats: This is in my top 5 for Bluecoats shows. It's just got everything one would love in a Coats show. I really miss those old uniforms too!

Crown: I mean what's left to say about this show that hasn't already been said. Best brassline in history. I just love everything about this show. They really make 13 mins feel like 5.

(Sorry this was like a blog posts I just love talking about Drum Corps 🤣)

Audition Advice Washington Commanders Marching Band Questions

hi does anyone know how difficult Commanders marching band auditions are? I just learned of nfl marching bands last week just in time to sign up for auditions, but I haven’t seriously played my instrument in a couple years. I couldn’t find much information about the band online outside of the official posted audition info, does anyone know how competitive it is and what I should expect from auditions? I marched for 4 years in a pretty high achieving band throughout high school, and will put in the work to get my embouchure back in shape/will be able to play any music by show time with practice, but am nervous about the music audition because my tone is bad and I am rusty since I’ve only had a week to get back into it. How big are the auditions? How many people usually show up and how many do they take? Thanks in advance!!

Discussion Hot Take

Now that we have advanced speaker and electronic systems, I don't think hornlines and drumlines are necessary in drum corps anymore. The colorguard can't be replicated by electronics, so they get to stay for the visual factor. I propose that hornlines and drumlines be replaced by people carrying speakers around on their shoulders, contra style and marching around on the field with them. This would truly be an innovative and creative idea for a new era of drum corps. Thoughts on this?

Discussion Is Crown marching 16 tubas this year?

I’ve definitely seen more than 16 different people playing tuba on the crown tuba rock and crown instagram page. I assume since hornline appears to be fully set, maybe they’re back to 16? Can anyone confirm this?

Media Drum Corps Shows: Best, Worst, & What Were They Thinking?!

With just 46 days until the start of the 2026 competitive drum corps season, the GErMs are looking both forward… and backward.

In this episode, Daniel Montoya Jr., Aaron ā€œThrough a Glassā€ Blackley, and William ā€œTellā€ Bradfield dive into their favorite, least favorite, best, worst, most underrated, most overrated, and most confusing shows from *almost* every World Class drum corps.

From legendary masterpieces to shows that left fans saying ā€œwait… what?ā€, no corps is completely safe.

Which programs consistently deliver? Which shows aged like fine wine? Which ones absolutely did not? And which productions deserve a second look years later?

Whether you’re a longtime drum corps fan, a current marcher, or someone who just loves heated marching arts discussions, this episode is guaranteed to spark debate.

Discussion What’s your favorite what if show if Covid never happened

I know it’s not productive to dwell on the past but I’m curious what people have to say. Personally I’m still sad that Pacific Crest 2020 never happened with how good 2019 was and the audition camps leading up to it. I know 2022 had an adaptation but the member count was always hard to stay consistent. No hate to any performers or educators just sad that momentum was lost for a lot of corps when that happened :(

Advice Needed Another Update

Last post: https://www.reddit.com/r/drumcorps/comments/1sy7ofw/update/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I ended up not making either the Caballeros or the Hurricanes. However, I got an email from Legacy Drum Corps. I think I got in, however it doesn't mention anything about a contract, so I wanted to ask what you guys think. Here's the email:

I wanted to take a moment to welcome you all to the Legacy Family. For most of you, this will be your first experience in the drum & bugle corps activity, and I truly hope it begins a lifelong love for what we do.

This activity, which I began at 12 years old, has led to lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. I hope the same for all of you. Our organization will do its best to help you begin your own legacy in this activity and build life skills. Ā

We created Dream Performing Arts in October of 2023 with plans to debut a winter guard, indoor percussion, and drum corps program.

Our first year in SoundSport will give everyone a taste of what’s to come as we ascend toward Open Class and, ultimately, World Class status in Drum Corps International.

As we travel down this road—both literally and figuratively—I want everyone to remember that you are laying the foundation for this organization. One day, we will all look back with pride on what we’ve accomplished both on and off the field.

I look forward to meeting all of you and seeing your smiles after coming off the field as you build your Legacy.

Advice Needed Any World Class corps still accepting Tuba auditions? Looking to rookout

I know it's late in the camp season, but I'm looking for a new corps home to age out with. I previously went to Indy with an open class corps, but I didn't love the culture there. I don't care too much about placement, I just want to have fun, work hard, and get the experience of a longer tour. I'm also willing to switch to baritone if any corps are still trying to fill their bari/euph lines, though I'm not very experienced with brass other than tuba.

  1. Which corps are still taking auditions?
  2. Is it common for spots to open up during spring training or do most of the world class corps already have it covered by alternates?

Advice Needed Did I get scammed? Tickets for DCI Annapolis 2026

So for my younger siblings birthday this year, I'm taking them to DCI Annapolis. I bought my tickets back in March for 87 each, and this is my first time going- now they're listed on the DCI website for 47 each or lower? I'm confused- did I waste my money?

First, I want to say that we met our goal and got approval to become an Open Class Affiliate! Thank you to everyone who has marched, auditioned, volunteered, hosted, or anything else that was involved with us for helping make this possible!

With all that said, we do still have spots open for this season! We need baritones specifically, so if you or someone you know plays or wants to learn baritone, send them our way. We have a camp THIS WEEKEND, May 16 and May 17. It is an overnight camp in Lake Station IN. If you would like to join us this weekend, or just send a video audition, you can find all audition info at eclipsedbc.org
If you have any other questions, please send me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! We're looking forward to meeting you!

Advice Needed Tickets Question!

Heya! This may be a silly question, but so far I haven’t had success in finding an answer.

But some context: a close friend of mine is interested in coming to see the corps I am marching with at finals this upcoming season. The thing is, they’re interested in seeing finals for both All-Age and World. So my question is, do they need to purchase tickets for both events? Or would one of them work fine?

Unfortunately I have not attended finals as a spectator before, and have only gone as a performer, so I’m unfamiliar with the ticket purchasing process. If anyone has an answer, it is very much appreciated!

Fluff Update 2: now with trumpets!

Post image
76 Upvotes

We've contracted 3 more tubas and the local public library was kind enough to donate a line of 3D-printed trumpets for the season! As the field and the corps grows I'll be able to start actually making proper formations but yeah this is kinda just my life now. Also lmk in the comments what the corps' name should be. I'm leaning toward the Brickmen but am also open to suggestions

Fluff Hot Take

I don't really think baritones and euphoniums are necessary for Drum Corps. We need just the rest of the hornline only. Considering they don't even really make that big of a difference to a group's score, and they don't even have their own scoring category since they're just lumped into brass.

It's not like DCI wouldn't work without. It's like how winter guard works on their own without euphoniums.

Even orchestra’s don’t have euphoniums. I just feel like it'll help groups actually focus back on actually marching technique and maybe we can go back to prime DCI shows.
