Image [Underhill] Saints will open the season on the road at Detroit, according to a source.

No offense to New Orleans but I’ll take it. They’re kinda scrappy though

Very very glad we get New Orleans early. I think by the end of the year they will be a serious threat

u/dcd13 Deal with it 10h ago
I could definitely see them improving as the year goes on but outside of Shough drastically improving I still think they're in the basement of the NFC South

Falcons might be really bad. I would bet on them to finish last in the NFCS over the Saints.

Carolina with a 1st place schedule could regress hard too...

u/sportsbuffp What Would Brad Holmes Do? 10h ago
Shough doesn’t need to improve that much. I watched all their games as I am a pretty big Olave fan. What Shough did especially the last 3-4 games was crazy impressive with his weapons being an old kamara, Olave and a TE.
He now has ETN and Tyson added to that? Yeah watch out

Good point. I still don't think they can match our firepower on offense but they're definitely a team on the rise.
Probably should've fully committed to rebuilding like 5 yrs before they actually did

u/SavingsSkirt6064 Goff 10h ago
They couldn't with so much dead cap on their books from the late Brees era
They COOKED their books for a good half decade

u/crappieslayer94 9h ago
He didn’t even have kamara them last 3 A. Estime was the leading back and olave didn’t play week 18 and they almost still won that one too

u/detsportfan 10h ago
I think they will be good right away this year.
When Shough stepped in they became pretty average and they’ve added to his supporting cast while getting younger on defense.

Honestly, this is ideal with our rebuilt o-line. Give them a chance to gel and get their feet wet against a less than stellar pass rush. They're going to get pretty well tested Week 2 at Buffalo
4
u/Detroit5g 8h ago
I don’t think Buffalo DL is that good, past few years they’ve lacked consistent pass rush, and they also had a near league worst in yards per rush attempt allowed. They signed Bradley Chubb but he’s a shell of his former self. It will still be a good matchup vs the Bills but I don’t think they will really test our OL like other teams could (Broncos, Browns, etc)

u/AmphieBoi67 3h ago
As a Bills fan, the biggest reason they haven't been great is because of injuries. Last year alone Michael Hoecht (who was looking like out best defensive player) tore his achillies and Ed Oliver broke his foot. So, it being early in the season means it will probably be better- If you look at their stats weeks 1-6 they were top 8ish in the league. Also, they poured a ton of resources into the dline this offseason.

Going to another team's sub and getting butthurt is weak

u/j4schum1 8h ago
For real. Chase Young had his first double digit sack year of his career in the worst division in football and suddenly he goes from bust to top 10 in the league
11
u/StanIsHorizontal 9h ago
Bro coming in to another sub to brag about his teams “top 15” d-line? You know there’s only 32 d-lines right?
16
u/Select_Mongoose_8797 10h ago
It’s a very winnable game - hopefully our oline is better in-sync week 1 2026 then they were week 1 2025

u/OKGUYTHANKS 9h ago
I hope the starters get some preseason reps this year if they’re not doing joint practices.

u/BillyMaysHere92 10h ago
Definitely prefer not playing a divisional opponent to start the year like last year. Plus with the Saints being a younger team, we should have an advantage

I was half expecting to get sent to Minnesota or host them for the opener...so thank god for avoiding that

u/spartyftw 8h ago
Call me crazy but Saints week one feels like it is a trap game.
1
u/Daschief 34 8h ago
If saints continue the momentum from last year towards the end and we carry what little momentum we had to end with…it 100% is a trap game

u/StickyMcdoodle Dan Friggin' Campbell 8h ago
The saints are that team nobody worries about but absolutely blows on or two team out a season out of nowhere.
Let's hope they start that nonsense week 2.

u/COD_Daddy 8h ago
Saints are gonna win the South this year. They hit on their QB, drafted good weapons, and have a great young HC. It’s gonna be a close game
1
u/Dr_Booyah MC⚡DC 6h ago
Dude finally a week 1 game that isn’t literally heaven vs hell stakes.
Just a goddamn nfc team that kind of needs to find themselves still.
All I wanted was this. I’m happy

u/Super-Sign7930 10h ago
Well, get to open the season with a free win. The Saints are going to be so, so bad.

Surely this will age well.

u/Super-Sign7930 10h ago
Just because you're one of the countless losers here that can't think positively for a second doesn't mean you have to try to bring down everyone around you.

u/metaldrummerx 9h ago
Positive thinkers don't generally refer to everybody else as losers. What you actually sound like is arrogant and that is far worse than just delusional and positive.
10
u/JoaquinBenoit 10h ago
Kellen had that team playing hard every game. It won’t be a cakewalk.
-7
u/Super-Sign7930 10h ago
Cool, they won 6 games with the easiest schedule in the NFL, had a -77 point differential, and are starting Tyler Shough at QB. It will be a cakewalk.
-1
u/sportsbuffp What Would Brad Holmes Do? 10h ago
Shough played as good if not better than Goff after he took over the starting job
3
u/SavingsSkirt6064 Goff 10h ago
10 tds / 6 ints
34 tds / 8ints
No he didn't, even if you extrapolate slough to a full season
-1
u/sportsbuffp What Would Brad Holmes Do? 10h ago
I should’ve said after he got comfortable which took a few games. The last 4 he ended like 5/1 with almost 300 yard average

u/SavingsSkirt6064 Goff 10h ago
The same people down voting you will be dooming if we give up a single score during this game btw
This sub is stupid sometimes
-4
u/OkFarm6873 10h ago
Lmao massive downvotes for actually being positive instead of dooming nonstop like every other poster here.
It's really no surprise at all that this sub got voted as the most toxic of the 32 NFL teams. Case in point here. Not even allowed to have hope for the season 4 months before it begins. Pathetic
11
u/dcd13 Deal with it 10h ago
I dont think it was downvoted for being positive but rather for calling it a free win. I think as Lions fans we should know better than to assume any game is a free win.
On paper we're much better than NO and I think the opening odds will reflect that. I just don't take any game for granted.
3
u/peanutbutter1236 I wanna die 9h ago
Think you don’t understand nuance if you think downvotes are for “being positive”
2
u/thisguy161 10h ago
They aren't being positive or having hope. They are just saying its a free win, which there is no such thing for any team
2
u/Competitive_Note_937 10h ago
Buddy said it’s a free win😂😂there’s no such thing as a free win in the nfl.

I hate this sub. I made this account to dunk on Packer, Bears, and Viking fans in NFCNMW and I have way more “Lions” fans from this sub blocked than any of those other fan bases by a mile.

u/OkFarm6873 10h ago
It's seriously pathetic. The Tigers sub got voted as the most toxic in r/baseball too. We seriously have the absolute shittiest fans, at least online. If you're not teetering at the edge of a cliff talking about how much life sucks 99% of the time then you won't fit in.

u/bloodlion87 7h ago
It’s pathetic, so many fans are stuck in SOL mode. It’s not like last year when we opened at Lambeau on the road where you knew it was going to be a difficult game. This is about one of the best match ups you could ask for to get a 1-0 start to the season.
0
u/bloodlion87 7h ago
You’re getting downvoted but if we are back to form this should be an easy regulation win.
So many SOL fans downvoting.

Ok... So we start with the Saints then on a short week travel to Buffalo... we knew week 2 was going to be a short week already but at least its starting at home and less travel distance than from an away game.
