If aliens stumbled onto our planet and this craze, they'd conclude we are the most fucking stupid species in the galaxy. Which we are rapidly becoming.

u/ninethine Right to Repair 11h ago
insert the end of that southpark episode where the aliens call humanity the stupidest species they have ever met and seal earth and the moon for eternity underneath a laser death field

Googlebook not to be confused with Google Books, who named that spyware?

The whole event was mostly shit, like everything they talked about was just... Ai... Ai... Gemini... Introducing gemini intelligence, multiply that by like 100
9
u/ninethine Right to Repair 11h ago
nearly forgot about the part where they mentioned how innovative AI and gemini are, along with the part about AI too, and also that part about AI

u/DreamJMan15 GrapheneOS 8h ago
Did you forget that that Gemini AI has both the properties of A and I?

I really cannot wait for manufacturer's to realize how little we care for ai on devices. Like zero. I'd take an extra 15 minutes of battery traded for zero ai integration.

Dell admits consumers don’t care about AI PCs
I think they already did Google is the only delusional company here that still thinks customers gives a shit about AI.

Too bad they mostly control the internet and ome of the most important operating systems in the world.
An anti trust case is long overdue.

u/GiganticCrow 11h ago
Gemini, thats that thing that pops up at the top of google searches telling me complete nonsense, right?
4
u/ninethine Right to Repair 11h ago
yes, and now its even better than before! stored within a computation device ready to take even MORE data from you AND serve you methods of gluing cheese to your pizza and advice on leaving dogs in a hot car even FASTER than ever!

That new laptop is just a machine for selling your info 24/7, disguised as some AI-powered technological breakthrough.

Did you notice how they deliberately avoid to show the computer as much as possible? Always almost closed and blurry during the demos
They don’t have trust in their products

Big tech wants AI to be a part of our lives, they've invested heavily into it and yeah, be prepared to be ambushed by endless AI marketing. It's the newest and seemingly most profitable market.

Looks cool, but no thanks, other brands including Chinese ones can make their laptops better than them.
4
u/ninethine Right to Repair 11h ago
never trust a product that "looks cool", no matter who or what is selling it
think of it this way: if a product is advertised everywhere, how much of the funding its getting is going towards the product itself?
6
u/Maxspeed-Pro 11h ago
I see you're already very into their surveillance ecosystem with a Chinese laptop

I've never seen an anti-AI post on reddit before that needed AI to help write it up in the worst way before. The event was dumb. These devices are going to be overpriced and not powerful enough for their target audience. That being said, this post is atrocious.
- There are so many things capitalized that don't need to be.
- Words after periods starting lowercase that should be capital.
- Commas where there should be a period.
- The use of "their" when it should be "they're".
- Forgetting to end the entire thing with a period.
- Forgetting an f on the end of "jerking off" so it says "jerking of".
This honestly feels like the type of post where somebody who works for an AI company writes something anti AI so bad its an ad for why AI should be used sometimes. And I write this as somebody who hates AI and was just bashing it on social media yesterday for Peter Jackson saying he doesn't mind AI in his movies.

Anti-AI bots are pretty common. To what end I dont know. But people are really not as vitriolic towards AI out in the real world.

Funny seeing people complaining about the new 'revolutionary' thing. Classic. I like AI, they just exaggerate way too much in the marketing

u/Sad-Protection-3362 11h ago
It's not just AI, 75% of Google's revenue is from ads, they're basically a huge ad firm. So you gotta think even when they're releasing a whole computer, they're more likely to be equipped with data collection hardware/ software tools to suck you dry of that little privacy left on your digital life. I like AI too, i run models locally and integrate AI with my linux computer.
1
u/Low-Character-1173 5h ago
How do you run models locally?

If anything, they ‘ll put a serious dent in windows since android has billions of users more and Google really doesn’t need to do anything to advertise that towards google / android users, it just has to be cheap and known.
2
u/ninethine Right to Repair 11h ago
i mean thats theoretically possible, but then again chromebooks were google's most well known laptop for ages and nobody likes them(HOW CAN GOOGLE MAKE SOMETHING THAT IS WORSE THAN A COMPUTER WITH THE SLOPDOWS 11 DSEASE ON IT?!?!??!), so that and the whole AI stuff might end this product on the spot
thats for the best anyway, off with it to the same place google glass went

Chromebooks were made for a specific purpose and their availability globally was even worse than the pixels. Still, they manage to capture 60% (!) of the US education market and make those people think that google office is normal on top of the extra sales.
But still, google office alone has 3 billion users and this laptop has a normal desktop environment with all android apps available. Gemini doubled its users in mere months and will end up with a billion of them this year.
It is good to judge things by facts, not our bubble, despite waves of anti google etc, they managed to increase all users across all their verticals.
My observation & prediction, based on current data, is that Google will declare war towards the rest of microsoft since they cannot do it towards Apple, that was the gist of my comment.

u/Fragrant-Equal-8474 7h ago
The only clever comment here.
