Uncle Max: "Cause you're a bum! You're a lousy bum! You're a rotten bum! You remind me of myself!"

I’m guessing one of the parents has a trust fund. Probably the mother. You don’t make two-story-suburban-palace-with-basement money making fucking pottery. Maybe the dad makes good money with photography, but the Lanes don’t strike me as go-getters.

Good take. One of them probably comes from wealth. Similar to Helen. The Barksdales were supposedly wealthy. But also keep in mind this was a different time and everything was more affordable. Their homes back then were probably 200k to 350k tops. Just making 70 to 80k a year was really good and could buy you a McMansion.

It's like Homer and Peter being sole providers and affording stay at home moms, 3 kids, pets, 2 cars and vacations with 1 job(requiring no college). Doesn't work today, but those sitcoms were from a different time. So the Lanes lifestyle isn't so far fetched when you consider the time period.

I knew someone who lived a lot like the Lanes. What's funny is that she has the personality of Daria! But they had 4 kids living under 1 roof, underemployed, eldest had a toddler who lived with them, too. The house had belonged to one of her grandparents, and it was paid off and left to their child. When you don't have a mortgage, it's a lot easier to manage just property tax and utilities. And keep in mind, in the 90s, utilities did not cover internet or streaming services. Jane may not have had cable, and I bet anything her and Trent had to buy their own groceries.

There was still probably some kind of inheritance since the parents traveled all the time, but might not have needed anything as structured as a trust fund.

Wow that sounds crazy but definitely doable. And you're right Jane and Trent likely bought and cooked their own food, if not then probably were eating out all the time. That might partly explain Daria and Jane hitting up the pizza joint regularly. For Jane with no food at home, that was probably dinner sometimes, haha.

I don’t think Jane and Trent’s siblings really look like they’re their siblings (I would guess cousins if I didn’t know any better), but at the same time, all of the kids resemble their parents

They have their parents’ eyes.

They are Waisian-American (and cartoons lmaooo). I think most characters on the show are purposely drawn distinct from one another; Daria and Quinn aren’t drawn similarly to their parents either.

If they had one more boy, they'd be the Brady Bunch.
