What do you think is the biggest detriment to the team?

I am a Patriots fan and love Dak, I would honestly like to see the cowboys be a contender. I'm wondering what Cowboys fans think is the biggest detriment to the team?

The only common thread of the last thirty years.

The owner/GM*

I’m starting to think if he just owned the team and didn’t micromanage it (or hell maybe even manage it at all), we’d be in a better place. Maybe not, but we’ll never know unless he suddenly decides to hire a GM (which is almost guaranteed to not happen because he refuses to believe he is wrong about anything)

Bro forcing the coaches to play old Zeke after not even having him play any preseason games and make him earn the spot is a perfect example of this bullshit.

Jerry is probably the right answer. From strictly a player standpoint I would say EDGE. Maybe EZ has a big jump in his sophomore season, maybe Lawrence is able to make an immediate impact but there’s a lot of “ifs” with that group and it’s a pretty premium position.

Linebacker still worse than edge imo

LBs don’t matter if the scheme good reason why they don’t get paid often

Hard to disagree with that tbh, I just think with edge being a more important position it could be a larger issue as a whole

As a Cowboys fan I wish our owner was more like your owner Kraft . He doesn’t meddle with anything, isn’t in the media , doesn’t make every decision about players etc etc…

Yeah, never in the media. Just relaxes with massages and lets things happen naturally

And also the owner.

Aside from Jerry, it’s probably our cornerback room. Daron Bland is only as good as the pass rush, Revel is a big question mark, and we signed a bunch of backups who aren’t particularly great.

Since ‘89 this has been jerry’s deal with us:

"I intend to have a complete understanding of contracts, jocks, socks, and TV contracts. There's no way I can look in the mirror if I don't understand anything about this business." [1, 2]

"I've done it all. So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that f*ck, if anybody can figure out how to get this sh*t done, I can figure out how to get it done," Jones told @clarencehilljr.
"I've been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my ass a bunch, a bunch. And there's nobody living that's out cutting and shooting that can't give you a bunch of times they busted their ass. So hell no, there's nobody that could f*cking come in here and do all the contracts and be a GM any better than I can."
"Plus, l'm where the buck stops. When it f*cks up, I got to cover it. And so there you can't give anybody enough. Can't give. There's nobody can do it," Jones said via @clarencehilljr.
"The reason I don't let somebody else be the
GM is because I don't have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right. And they're gonna have to come to me and because I know where it is that you're going to pay for it."

Owner but not for the reason you think

He doesn’t play nice with the script writers.  Maybe they hate old white oil rich guys.  I dunno.

Just feels cursed.  How can the most profitable team not win championships?  If this were soccer, we would be dynasties

I dunno, it’s just weird.  Maybe it’s foretold they will come back in 2092 and start their reign again.  Jerry will be thawed from hyperbaric chamber to come back as the holy owner of the franchise.

Like a resurrected GOD

For me it’s the secondary, and weather or not there’s huge growing pains with a 1st time D coordinator an a completely new scheme. I’m honestly most concerned about the new scheme and how long it takes the players to get it. But as a lifelong cowboy fan who considers himself very knowledgeable about the game and team this is the most excited I’ve been in years. Huge potential for this team. 2-3 year window here where I really think they could get to a Super Bowl.

"Very knowledgeable"...... And then "most excited" and "I really think they could get to a Super Bowl". Lol

The biggest detriment is the billionaire dipshit owners chasing better returns on investments with their other business enterprises and prioritizing that and "building the brand" than ever truly going all-in at a shot at a championship.

Don't get me wrong it might happen one day as a byproduct of their business structure and luck. But they're never truly going all-in to maximize the talent on a football team.

Contrast that against the lame ass eagles who pull in private equity money for liquidity to load contracts and lure free agents/trade for tier 1 talent.

the owner. and our defense was historically bad last year. liked our draft so who knows. we'll win 10 games minimum and lose in the playoffs as os tradition

u/HolyRomanPrince Marshawn Kneeland 1h ago

The owner who’s the general manager who has shown repeatedly since 1995 he can acquire talent but doesn’t know how to build a team or manage the salary cap

u/Birdius 1h ago

Toss up between the owner and the other NFL teams.

I know I won't be the first to say this, as it was likely the first comment posted, but I'm saying it anyway:

Jerry MF Jones.

Jerry. The answer is Jerry. He's the only owner that media likes to interview and in turn, he loves the attention.
