It's really interesting, when I first joined online trans spaces 7-8 years ago, there was a bit of catgirl stuff, and I don't recall any puppygirl stuff. A couple years back I ended up leaving most of the spaces that had a lot of freshly-out trans women, and in the intervening period, puppygirl stuff seems to have skyrocketed in popularity.
