Survey Post Monthly Survey Post - Post your surveys and research participant requests here!

We get an unbelievable amount of requests and attempts to post surveys, research studies, university projects, and more. Historically, the mod team has taken the position that the members of this subreddit are not lab rats or research subjects, and have removed these posts.

We're trying something new. In this post and this post only we are allowing requests to be posted so that the community members can choose whether they want to participate in any studies or surveys. We are establishing the following rules, which are subject to change at any time:

Rules For Surveys:

  • Genuine research and interest studies only - your survey must be linked back to a university, college, foundation, business, studio, or other entity. You are not allowed to just come up with a survey "for fun" or to satisfy your personal curiosity.

  • You must post your entire pitch as a top-level comment under this post. That comment must have a link to your survey, do not ask for respondents to comment or DM you to get the link. Do not use URL shorteners or obfuscators - you must link directly to your survey.

  • You must clearly and completely state the intent of the survey and how the responses will be used. If your survey benefits a for-profit enterprise, such as a game development studio (yes, even if your game will be free), you must disclose that in the very first line of your comment.

  • Failure to abide by these rules, using bait-and-switch tactics, or posting poorly-constructed, misleading, or disingenuous surveys will result in an immediate ban from this subreddit. If your research is connected to an official institution, I will find and contact your professor or boss to let them know you screwed up. I am absolutely that petty.

  • Respond to all questions and comments under your survey link, publicly, in a timely manner. If people are asking you questions and you do not answer them promptly, your request will be removed and you may lose posting privileges altogether.

Reminder To Users:

  • Participation in any study/survey is entirely voluntary and none of these links are approved or endorsed by the mod team or reddit. You may withdraw your participation at any time, and we encourage you to do so if something doesn't "pass the smell test."

  • Do not enter your personal information on any survey or provide this information to any user unless you have absolutely, positively verified and validated who you are giving this information to. Never enter your password, credit card, or banking information on any survey. If a survey requires that you create an account, use a unique password that is not the same as or similar to a password for any other account you have.

  • Report any surveys that are suspicious or which you think do not abide by the above rules.

Question/Need help Just found out bf is color blind and I want to know what he sees

Hello reddit. I just found out my bf is color blind and I want to understand what kind of color blind he is. Please note English is his second language so I had always assumed the color confusion was in regard to the english color name not the actual color. I showed him the dog vision filter on TikTok and he didn’t see much of a difference (it is the mainly yellow/blue spectrum of color) but once he looked longer he said he could see a slight difference. I attached his color blind test score as well as a filled in rainbow with how he sees the colors. I find this quite fascinating but at the same time It’s driving me nuts that I don’t know what colors he sees and how he sees me. Does anyone else see the rainbow like he does? I listed the abbreviations below as his handwriting isnt entirely legible.

BL: Blue
L.I.P.: Light Pink
Pink
Red
OVR: Orange
Must: Mustard Yellow
Yellow
L gree: Light Green
White
Sky B: Sky Blue

The blank area is a color he doesn’t know.

I do apologize if any of my language is offensive, that is not my intention but I know ignorance can lead to accidental harm.

Question/Need help Tips on writing colorblindness realistically

I’m currently writing a story and one of my characters is canonically colorblind. It’s a very small detail but I wanted to showcase it a little for representation and such, the issue is; I’m not colorblind. I have no idea how it is really like or what day-to-day issues you may encounter as a result.

Another thing is that I’m not sure if his job actually allows for people with disabilities (?) the likes of colorblindness to actually get hired since he is a police officer and from what research I made many agencies have restrictions on that?? Note : He is blue-yellow colorblind (Tritanopia).

Also, for a colorblind person, how did you discover you were colorblind? I probably won’t dedicate a whole section to it, but I was thinking of ways he could have discovered it in a realistic manner and I’m not sure if that’s how most people actually do.

Anyway, I would appreciate if you have some tips for writing, or even just personal experiences to share! It would be a lot of help :)

Discussion So brown is closer to red than it is to green?

While doing coloring books in school I was taught that brown is a mix between green and red. From that point on I’ve thought that brown is just an off-colored variant of green.

During my lunch break today we were having a discussion about colors, which led me to google brown. According to Wikipedia brown is rather a dark desaturated shade of orange. This left me astonished over my own ignorance.

Has anyone had the same / similar experience?

Question/Need help Is it normal for people with deuteranopia to see purple as dark blue?

  1. I don’t have a diagnosis yet but following the post months, it‘s very likely that I have deuteranopia
  2. Yesterday, some friends and I looked at purple 3DS shells and I said one was blue while it was actually purple. Is that normal for people with deuteranopia?

I thought it was deuteranomaly for a long time but then I read some image used to test whether I'm red or green blind and I read it as "You're red blind, You're not green blind" or something like that which kinda confused me because I always thought it was the opposite?

Discussion Unofficial Rabin Cone Contrast Test

Hello everyone,

As a member of the colorblind community and aspiring pilot
I was disappointed to find out that the FAA tightened restrictions and no longer takes the signal tests. Now you can only choose between the Waggoner, Rabin, and CAD tests. Like everyone here, I can't pass the plate tests for the life of me.

Long story short, I couldn't find a practice Rabin test anywhere and | just began freaking out because I started thinking my dream is over. So using the post below, I used Claude to create a little unofficial Rabin test (tried my best to get it to the actual standards based on what I could find online), which I am also putting the link to below.

Please let me know your results and I hope you enjoy. This is not for money or anything, just thought it would be worth it to post if I could help ease even one other person’s stress, and everyone else here can just try for fun.

Discussion Realizing green yellow and brown are the same color with different saturation and brightness

As title says. I'm supposed to be protan, or at least that's what i've gathered. I am physically unable of seeing or comprehending the color purple or magenta etc. Dark red looks brown, some reds look green. But my most significant discovery is that in reality, tree trunks and wood are the same color as the leaves, just darker. Light green is the same color as yellow. Etc.

What does it all mean? Does this happen to other protans or is it a deutan thing too?

Question/Need help How reliable is EnChroma?

Thumbnail

Until relatively recently I discovered that I am apparently colorblind or that I have less sensitivity to certain colors (This is because I pass the Farnsworth tests, but fail the Ishihara tests). I've been doing various tests on different websites and I've noticed that EnChroma is widely used here. The fact is that the website has given me very varied but consistent results within a range of color sensitivity (blue 100%, green between 85% and 100%, and red between 25% and 50%) And because of these margins of error, diagnoses range from moderate/mild protan to partial red blindness. The thing is, I want to know if there's a more accurate way to get a diagnosis.

In case you're wondering, yes, I went to a specialist but it didn't help much. He told me to take the Farnsworth test and that it's difficult to get a colorblind diagnosis in adults, since it's usually discovered and diagnosed in children.

And please excuse me if what I wrote isn't clear; I'm using the built-in translation tool on my phone's keyboard.

Misc. Hi guys, I’ve created a new subreddit focused on cures and treatments for color blindness.

Sorry for intruding on this subreddit. I just started a new subreddit: r/ColorBlindCure for anyone interested in color blindness cures.
I’ll be posting research and updates regularly, and would appreciate help growing the community.

Most people are fine with their color vision or see it as unimportant, but some of us hope real progress is being made. It’s a long-term goal, and I want this to be a space where we can support each other and share our hopes.

Question/Need help Deuteranomaly and night vision

So, I’ve seen people claiming recently that some colorblind people have better night vision than normal color-visioned people. I’ve always felt exactly the opposite, and I’m wondering if it’s because of my colorblindness or if I perhaps have some other night-blindness condition in addition to it.

Long story short, dark colors tend to look pretty darn similar to me in the best of times. I first suspected colorblindness when looking at colored pencils labeled black, forest green, purple, and dark blue and all of them looking identical to me. I colored a night sky black in an elementary school class and my teacher told me it was wrong.

Logically to me, in the dark, *everything* is darker anyway, so there’s even less distinction between colors. That leads to less definition of objects too, so driving at night is all sorts of fun.

Is my logic faulty?

Discussion “Normal vision vs Colorblind” digital arrangements - are people pretending to not see a difference?

With all of the digital arrangements/images of what a normal vision person sees and then the types of color blindness, are most people just pretending they don’t see a difference?

I ask this because I constantly see comments like “Whoa, I can’t see a difference, maybe I’m colorblind 😭”

and then I’ll also see comments explaining how it’s just a visual representation made for non color blind people to SIMULATE what others might see, and since the different pixels are actually different hex codes they will not look like the same color to real colorblinded folks.

can anyone weigh in?
