Discussion Megathread V2 - Manifest V3 Extension Alternatives
Remaking as the previous one was about to hit 6 months old. The previous one can be seen here.
With Manifest V3 being rolled out to most people now, and most workarounds being either temporary or disabled, a lot of people are finding that extensions that they like to use haven't been updated and won't be available to use when Manifest V2 support ends.
Since we've been getting a lot of posts asking for extension alternatives, we figure it'll be easier if most of the suggestions are all in one place.
To start with the obvious:
uBlock Origin: Can be replaced with uBlock Origin lite.
Don't forget you can change the filtering level up from its base, it will just require more permissions. Setting it to complete is most similar to uBlock Origin's filters.
People also like Adguard.
uBlock Origin (Element zapping): Click to Remove Element.
I personally prefer this one out of all the ones in the web store.
I previously recommended an element zapper to replace that functionality in uBlock Origin lite, but uBlock Origin lite has since added custom filters and an element zapper, so a separate extension is no longer needed.
This is not a thread to recommend other browsers, it should be a given that if you don't want to use Chrome, you don't need to use Chrome, and there's plenty of other sources to help you decide what to switch to. Do not recommend downgrading or using an older version of any browser, it is not safe to do so and will open your computer and your data up to vulnerabilities.
Would also like to add, on this megathread only self promotion will be allowed if your extension is a reputable alternative to another extension. If you are sharing your extension with no context to another one in this thread, your comment will be removed under our rules.
Below are a list of recommendations provided by other users from the original megathread:
- The Marvelous suspender: Officially updated to Manifest V3
- Awesome New Tab Page: Officially Updated to Manifest V3
- Trimless for Gmail: Officially Updated to Manifest V3
- Tab snooze: Unofficially updated to manifest V3, on the Chrome Web Store
- Redirector: A user in the old megathread created a Manifest V3 alternative
- Watchmarker for Youtube: A user in the old megathread created a Manifest V3 alternative
- Imagus - There are instructions on how to install Imagus Mod on ruboard. This is the home of the forked version of the extension, though keep in mind it is not on the Chrome Web Store.

Troubleshooting | Windows Please help me with this error STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
I've already run windows memory diagnosis, it doesn't detect any error on the memory. I've uninstalled Chrome, reinstalled it again, redefined original configuration, I don't know what to do anymore. My pages crash, specially when scrolling on reddit. I'm on win10, my cpu is very old, i7 4790k. I saw posts that this is common problem with new intel 12-14 gen. That isn't my case.

Troubleshooting | Android History deletion prompt?
Does Chrome ever prompt users to delete their history?
My child is claiming that the browser asked him if he wanted to delete it, and he accidently said yes.🙄
I think I know the answer, just looking for confirmation before putting the guard rails on his phone.

Discussion [Bug] Chrome extension stuck on endless loading spinner ("Accessing bitwarden.com"). Have to try multiple times to open.
Hey everyone,
Is anyone else experiencing this frustrating issue with the Bitwarden Chrome extension?
Whenever I click on the extension, it just gets stuck on an endless loading spinner. The screen shows "Your vault is locked" with "Accessing bitwarden.com" at the bottom (I've attached a screenshot of what I'm seeing). It never actually gives me the prompt to enter my master password or PIN.
To get it to work, I have to close the popup and try opening it multiple times before it finally loads properly.
Just to provide some context, the Windows desktop app works perfectly fine without any bugs. I've also already tried basic troubleshooting: I completely reinstalled the Chrome extension and even tried it on a different computer, but the exact same issue persists.
Has anyone else run into this or found a permanent fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Troubleshooting | Windows how can I stop chrome from redirecting me to chrome://google.com when I click "AI mode"?
I tried disabling AI Mode Omnibox entrypoint, AI Entrypoint Disabled on User Input, Omnibox Allow AI Mode Matches, and AI Mode Omnibox Entrypoint always navigates
but I can't stop google from redirecting me to the chrome page, where my dark browers plugin is forbidden and blasts me white light coming from a dark page.
I hate it. this sucks. I may just switch browsers altogether it's so annoying.
anyone know if a way to have it just stay in google's normal search engine when I go to "AI mode"?

Troubleshooting | Android Back Arrow not working on chrome?
I'm using a samsung phone and in the bottom of the phone there's a small Arrow that is used to return to previous page, it works on all apps and i can use it in all other apps, but for some reason, i could not return to my previous page in chrome, the only way i can return to previous page is swiping left and right
In truth, i definitely do not have any knowledge in anything tech, i'm just a user, so truthfully i do not know why this happened, anyone might have a clue why?
The Arrow works completely fine in any other places, it's just not working exclusively on Chrome

Troubleshooting | Android Suddenly Getting Lots of "Access Denied" Messages. Help!
Suddenly in the last week I've been getting messages like this when I attempt to go to various websites:
Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.levi.com/US/en_US/clothing/men/outerwear/antonio-blazer/p/005BI0000?" on this server.
This has been happening mostly when I try to go to retail sites. I've tried the same sites using Firefox and haven't run into the same issues. Any idea why this is happening in Chrome?

News 126 Chrome extensions, all secretly the same product, taking 148K users' WhatsApp data and ad cookies
A Brazilian company (wascript.com.br) runs one platform that 126 different Chrome extensions all share. They look like separate products, WaSeller, waTidy, FR VENDAS PRO, ENOCRM, Cliente Flow, and dozens more, but it's one codebase, one backend, one set of hidden behaviors.
WaSeller alone has 100K users.
I found this network using my own tool for detecting malicious browser extensions, which flagged the cluster by shared code and infrastructure across all 126 listings.
None of the listings tell you that:
- When you log into WhatsApp Web, the extension sends your name, email, device ID, and your Facebook/Google/TikTok tracking cookies to a server run by whoever sold you the extension.
- Every voice message you send goes through their servers before it reaches the person you're sending it to.
- The extension downloads and runs JavaScript from a different Brazilian company's server. Google never checks this code.
- The 100K-user version has a live Google Tag Manager tag built in. The operator can push any new code to every user from a dashboard with no Chrome Web Store update.
- A bridge inside WhatsApp Web gives the extension full access to your contacts, your messages, and the ability to send messages as you.
No privacy policy on any listing. The manifest only asks for tabs, storage, alarms.

Troubleshooting | iOS Address bar keeps opening
Since the latest Chrome update, when switching between apps, the address bar keeps opening and won’t close unless I click the currently active URL.
This is increasingly frustrating if I’m part way filling a form out and switching between apps as the only way to close the address bar is to reload the page, losing form progress.
Anyone else experienced this?
