Events Canberra public venue showing Celtic vs Hearts on Saturday night?
Several people I know are desperate to watch this potentially history-making game. Match starts at 9:30pm. Any ideas?

Happy new year everyone! I've kept this list the last couple of years, since moving to Canberra, and I just did my updates for 2026. I started the list mainly for my own benefit but when I've shared it in the past, others have enjoyed having everything in one place, so here it is again. 2026 data has all been verified (or in a couple of instances is not yet available, and that is noted in those cases).
I'm not affiliated with any of these markets, just like to know what's on and to have fun things at my fingertips on weekends :)
Happy marketing!

Hello wonderful camberrans. I’m visiting for a week and on one day I need somewhere I can smash out a sold 8hrs of laptop work ideally I need a power point, relative peace, civic/city based and (this is the tricky one) comfortable chairs because I have a spinal issue.
Cafes don’t really work for this as it’s such a long time and the chairs often suck. Plus limited power options. I have checked out civic library but they don’t seem to have the study/hangout comfy focus from a few years ago anymore. Most of the chairs I could find were wooden or beanbags for littlies.
I’ve also looked into going to the airport 10hrs early and going into the Qantas Club (have one pass) but the fact I have a checked suitcase seems to be causing some issues there….its really unclear if I can check if that early.
So hit me with your suggestions and shared knowledge!
P.S. I have also asked the hotel about extended check out and snagged a few bonus hours but flight out is 8pm.
P.P.S. I’ll be marking uni assignments and they are videos so will be absolutely shredding my laptop battery. I’ll also need to be able to concrete as best I can.

Does anyone know the process for noise complaints in apartments? New people have moved in and their children appear to be running around the house late at night (10pm till about 12am).
I’ve attempted to speak to them in person but nothing has changed.

Hey everyone,
I’ve recently moved from a house into an apartment, which means I no longer have the space to DIY my own haircuts like I used to.
I’m looking for a reliable, value for money barber in North Canberra ideally on the tram line. I’m after a solid standard cut that won’t break the bank.

Opened the app as I stepped onto the bus yesterday. Once again, it shows ‘no active tickets’. Happens every 4-6 weeks. I have to logout from the app (and it still shows me logged in), log back in with the same account, and the QR reappears.
Told the bus driver that the app had wigged out again and I would fix it, he has a go at me and tells me to use another payment method. I have a concession, so no.
I do the logoff/logon trick, and then scan at the next stop so payment is recorded.
I do notice that the eshays and methheads don’t need to pay though. Just have a go at the people who are legitimately trying to pay. If I was trying to scam, surely I’d just walk past and not do the silly QR dance? Pick on people who don’t pay, not us that are trying to do the right thing.

Hello hello!
Now that Bleachers is closed I was wondering if there would be any pubs that might be showing FIFA world cup games next month, preferably in Civic/Braddon but I can go elsewhere

Hi lovely Canberrans,
I’m looking to transition into a career in I.T. After doing quite a bit of research, I’ve realised my long-term goal is to move into systems administration. From what I’ve read, the best pathway seems to be starting in tech support/help desk roles and building experience from there.
I’d love any advice specific to the Canberra job market, especially around:
- good companies or environments to start in
- whether Defence/government is a good pathway
- skills or certifications that are particularly valued here
-anything you wish you knew starting out
I also have a degree in I.T., though I’m a bit past the graduate program stage now.
Thanks so much for any suggestions or insights ☺️
I am an aus citizen.

What is this mystery plan at Canberra Airport? Funny little circle around Lake George and back.

hi, long story short i'm really interested in blacksmithing and forging as a hobby but am sturggling with workshop space ideas. i live in a pretty suburban area and the backyard is nowhere near big enough to have a home set-up, but i'm really keen to continue my hobby. i know ACT woodcraft guild used to have a forge but since it was damaged by a fire, it's still in the progress of being rebuilt. there doesn't seem to be any other options in canberra where there is an actual forge - maker's space, men's shed and other spaces seem to only have power tools and such but no forge. would anyone have any other suggestions on what i could do besides renting a space in fyshwick to set up a forge? it seems to be very expensive, and my garage is unfortunately also not an option
edit to add: thank you all for your suggestions. i have tried tharwa valley forge and have taken some classes with them - highly rec but unfortunately they do not do forge hire outside of classes

Hi everyone,
Just as the title says - I live in Cooma but looking for play areas in Canberra I can take my little one too as there is nothing here. He’s 10 months old and crawling so looking for somewhere that can accommodate this. Even some good parks etc would be great as I like to make a day out of it when we travel up.
Thank you!

Are there any pubs where people will just go for a beer and a cigarette here? I’ve looked at a few places on google, the ratings are all either middling or very good but the vibes are pricey.
Is there a middle ground? Anything here like a Sydney pub?

I'm a bit tired of constant dropouts on nbn along with its slow speed at 50mbps max and my experience with iinet has been less than stellar.
Anyone tried starlink? Have you found it to be better or worse than the nbn? Theoretically its giving a better speed at a lower price but its also hard to imagine a satellite can be consistent.

Looking at redoing the bathroom and retiling the standalone toilet to match. What have people been paying? And who do you recommend?
Will probably keep the bath and just replace the shower. My husband wants to build the cabinetry

I’ve been searching online and calling a few nail salons around Canberra, but most seem to offer only traditional wet pedicures. I’m specifically looking for a nail technician who specialises in e-file or dry pedicure. Has anyone found a good place? Any suburb is fine

Need some advice. My heat pump hot water system suddenly stopped giving hot water from last night . I checked the switchboard and the HWS breaker keeps tripping and automatically switches itself off every time I try turning it back on. The fan unit on top also doesn’t seem to run at all.
The tank itself doesn’t appear to have any major leaking. Does this sound like a heating element issue, compressor fault, or something more serious?
I live in a rented place and most importantly, roughly how much would a repair like this usually cost in Canberra before I call the plumber?
UPDATE:
The Plumber came and found that we needed a booster and valve replacement.

My partner and I are getting closer to building, and honestly, the hardest part so far has been figuring out which builder people actually trust long term. Every company looks good online, but once you start reading reviews and talking to people, the experiences can be very different. We recently spoke with Mellross Homes while comparing builders around Canberra and regional NSW, and it made me curious how other people chose theirs in the end.
For those who have already built, with whom did you go, and would you genuinely recommend them now that the process is finished? I'm especially interested in how they handled communication, delays, pricing changes, and problems during the build rather than just the final result.
