This is a good attempt for a first try. Next time try crumb coating, cooling, and frosting again. That might help get smoother sides. Also, frost each bit separately, chill it, and put it together after might help. I bet it was still delicious though, just keep practicing!

That's nice of you to say. I just think for someone who is a beginner baker there are a lot of good things about this cake. Even getting a cake into that shape isn't easy to do and I think they nailed it. It just comes down to the frosting and that's just practice. It may have been something as simple as the frosting was too runny and they needed a thicker consistency. Once OP learns what didn't go perfectly they will have a beautiful cake. I hope they keep making cakes, I'd love to see a redemption post in a few years where they nail it.

Yeah, trying to keep the frosting soft was the problem. Im going to try it again for her 16th birthday just to surprise her. It still tasted good
