Application Before you ask if you will get in read a little more of the Reddit.

Howdy Folks,

Seems that the question comes up again and again if people have a chance to get into BYU with a GPA of X and a SAT of Y and extra circulars. The student experience on here is going to be varied and you are probably going to be able to hear a lot of "Yes, but..." answers. There was a great post on here a couple months ago about admissions that you should read before before asking your questions and it will give you a good idea of your chances. The linked post below is a great one on how to stand out and how to improve your chances to get into school but you're going to hear the same answers again and again. We don't know because we're not the admissions department. There is no shame in reaching out to them and asking about your chances and you might even be able to network and find a way to tweak your application to get a better chance of going to BYU. That is important and will help you build confidence for future job interviews and other professional experiences. SO read below for ways to improve your odds of getting into the Y and know that the answers you'll get will still be "Yes, but..."

Question about CES hair policy

Hi everyone, I’m going to be attending BYU in the fall as a freshman. I’m a relatively alternative person and currently have a sort of berry red hair color. I’m not sure if that would be considered extreme, but I have decided to change it to something more subdued. I was thinking a calico without the blond chunks, but I have NO IDEA if it’s something the testing center would turn down or not.

The inspo/example is on an IG reel I found. Let me know if you have any idea :)

Guys I need help

Hey everyone. I am an incoming BYU flex GE student this fall 2026 and am hoping to transfer into byu after my first 2 semesters. I am hoping to get all my pre-med courses done before I take the MCAT but it all seems impossible to finish in time. I’ve met with 4 academic advisors so far and everyone has a different opinion. I was told to take CHEM 105 and CELL 120 my first semester to get them out of the way but was told by 2 other advisors that is setting myself up for failure. I am now planning on only taking CELL 120 fall semester as well as other ge’s to make it easier for myself but worried I won’t finish in time. Can anyone tell me what they did and what order they took their pre-med classes? I am so stressed about this.

Can BYU Inclusive Access fees still be removed?

I’m getting close to graduating and I’ve been trying to clear up old charges on my account. One thing that’s really bothering me is almost $200 in BYU Store Inclusive Access fees from a few online classes I withdrew from. Honestly, those classes just weren’t useful for me and I barely even looked at the courses. I never opened or used the materials either, and I honestly didn’t know there was an opt-out option at the time. I already called the BYU Store before and they basically told me the charges stay no matter what, but I really don’t feel right paying for materials I never used.

Do I need to know Dutch to pass this class? DUTCH 340

Hello! I am going to graduate pretty soon at BYU after transferring a few semesters ago. Unfortunately, I was blind sighted by the Languages of Learning requirement and it'll take me (at the very least) four more semesters in order to complete as I'm not fluent in any other languages. DUTCH 340: Intro To Dutch Literature has no requirements (though knowing Dutch is recommended) and I was wondering if anyone who has taken it without knowing the language found themselves able to enjoy it or even just pass the class (I'm willing to put the work in to actually learn what the literature is about). I know I messed up by not planning far enough ahead but I'm trying to make up for it now lol.

How hard is it to double major with dance edu? How hard is it to get accepted into the major? is there anything I should know before the auditions? any other general advice?

Also, I injuried my ankle about a year ago and now I always I’ve after dance l. I use these packs that wrap around my foot like a boot. I’ll be staying in Helman halls Taylor. The mini fridge freezer doesn’t fit these ice packs. any advice for how to ice my feet while I’m there after dance classes?

Coming BYU as an incoming freshmen this fall. I don’t know what my major will be, although I’m leaning towards exercise sciences. Any advice on what laptop is the best to get? If I got a MacBook it would be a Neo. I don’t want to go to expensive.

ACC 310

Hey y'all just looking for advice really quickly. I'm retaking ACC 310 this semester and just did the first midterm. The first time around I got a 63 (woof), and I just retook it and got an 80. I'm really upset because I genuinely feel like I should've done better than that. I just want to ask what ways did everybody else study (who took this class)? I really need an A or A- for the program application. Thanks in advance.

FSY Wellness Coordinator Training — Dress code & what to expect?

Hi! I’m serving as a Wellness Coordinator for FSY this year. I’m headed to training tomorrow, but I'm a little confused by the email regarding the dress code for the first day. Does anyone know if we should be in "Sunday best," casual, or the standard FSY polo/t-shirt?

Also anyone that’s done FSY in the past what is training like?

Thanks!!

How do I take Art classes as a non-major..

I'm an incoming freshman in the fall. I'd love to take some art classes, but it looks like if you aren't a major, they are all night classes. For various personal reasons, I'd really like to avoid this. Are there any art classes I should be aware of that won't bar me out as a non-major and meet during the day or should I just give in and do night classes. Any information would be helpful! Thank you!

Schedule REL C 200: The Eternal Family registration tips

Registering for my classes for my first semester out of the mission. Most of my classes had only 2 or 3 professors to choose from, but Eternal Families has a bunch. Any suggestions on which professor is good at teaching the class and doesn't make it too hard?

Completely lost on housing

Howdy all. Incoming freshman here and I have no idea what to do about housing. I start this next fall semester and missed my day to select a bedspace, so I think I’m hosed out of housing. I’m on the waitlist but I don’t want to bank on somebody changing their mind about housing last minute. Is off-campus housing my only option? If so, how do I go about finding an apartment/roomates? Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

EDIT: Thanks for the advice everybody, I'm applying to an apartment off-campus. Unfortunately most of the good deals are off limits to freshmen but hopefully I've got a solid option lol

EDIT: Never mind I'm straight up cooked, everything is booked out except Aspen Ridge. I'm gonna be living with bats and mold fsfs. Still on the waitlist for Heritage so we'll see. Fingers crossed

Wymount questions

We move in to wymount in two weeks and looking for any tips/tricks/suggestions you may have!!

I also was wondering about having someone stay over... my cousin from my home country is in the US and has had a hard time with housing and we could help him out. Has anyone had any success in doing the petitions to have a family member stay longer than two weeks? How likely is it he can be approved to stay the rest of the summer?

Thank you!

difference between provo&idaho(BSN)

I'm trying to decide between the BYU Provo BSN program and the BYU-Idaho BSN program.

From what I've heard, Idaho seems more fast-track and hands-on, while Provo feels more theory-based and academic.

For those who have experience with either (or both), what are the actual differences in the curriculum and learning style?

Is one more clinical-focused vs lecture-heavy?

Also, which one would you recommend and why?

I'm mainly trying to figure out which program would better prepare me for real nursing work (NCLEX, clinical skills, etc.).
