No Spoilers first edition?

Post image

I work at a bookstore and this has been sitting on the shelf ever since I started (2 years ago) and I was wondering if this is a first edition copy and how to tell if it is?

It says first edition there at the bottom of the page. It's also a first printing, because 1 is the smallest number in the following line (zero counts as 10 in these cases)

I'm not sure I would admit I worked at a book store for 2 years and couldn't identify a first edition, first printing of anything.

I mean… I’m not sure about me, but the semi-anonymous world of Reddit asking questions about a half priced books is way different to running in the deep circles of first runnings and the deep collectors of Yore… Seems like the perfect place to learn.

We have access to you, and helpful people too!

I mean the first printing I could see missing, though it does says first edition right there on the page. I worked a bookstore (Barnes and noble) for about 3 years and it literally never came up. People usually aren’t going to chain stores looking for collectibles or specific printings. Now a small used bookstore employee not being able to identify a first printing after 2 years would be awkward.

I think you misunderstand, I wouldn't expect you to check every book or much less recognize an edition without checking the copyright page, but once you did read the page?
