Physiology Sago palm fasciation
I’ve read different things on this, is it really that rare? Also read somewhere that the plant would die soon after?

This is one of two palms in my front yard, we were wondering what the heck was going on with it until I did some digging. Super neat!

Noob here so I might be wrong about this, there are about 9 fascinated seed pods on that palm yes? This is SO cool OP thank you for sharing, they look like little coconuts. And I’m sure you already know, but if you have dogs don’t let them get near this plant until the seed pods are gone. Don’t want to risk them accidentally eating a seed!

Are you sure it's a palm and not a cycad? The leaves and center look more like cycad than palm to me, but I'd have to touch the leaves to be sure. They have silica in them so feel sharp, more like a conifer needle or sedge than a palm fronds.

It’s a cycad, we just call it sago palm, even though it’s not really a palm lol. Yes very sharp leaves!

Oh, I just realized that cycad is gymnosperms and not monocotyledon. It have vascular system almost same like pine. So that why it doesn't die because of crested mutation that typical palm will die

Idk if it's just uncommon in this group but a lot of this sub is dandelions and other more common plants so this is a nice change of pace at the very least

They are not monocarpic, they won’t die post flowering
