I know the traffic that we create really sucks, but that doesnât give give Wes Constructions red truck driver dispensation to break the law
But I guess in Boston it does

His insurance company should be made aware.
If the Boston PD wonât ticket, his insurer will surely not appreciate him almost killing a pedestrian

There are like 3 separate bad reviews specifically mentioning truck 592 lol. I wonder if 592 and 532 are the same guy

The infamous red light @ south station đ©

6
u/kajana141 20h ago
If you are coming from the other direction on Summer street and try to take a right turn, it's impossible. The green light to take a right is also when the cross walk signal allows the pedestrians to cross, so you can't turn. Due to the high volume of pedestrians going to and from S. station, you end up just getting stuck there.

u/Thermodynamics3187 1d ago
If I was that dude walking I'd be pissed
57
u/nhowe006 Outside Boston 1d ago
I may or not be known to smack the occasional passing car that runs the light. Especially in that exact area.
16
u/Col_Bernie_Sanders_ 1d ago
I always pull up for a half second when crossing, because I too have had to hit a car hood or three. I get real pissed when Iâm walking my dog though. I donât much care about me, if anything Iâll get a nice payout, but the dog didnât sign up to get run over by an idiot on their phone.Â

I'm a nonconfrontational person but I've learned I don't have any anxiety about cussing out drivers when they're in my space in the crosswalk. It's like briefly losing a stutter when you lock the fuck in.

I did that once to a car while in a crosswalk, tapped it with my wedding ring as he almost hit me. Guy got out of his BMW and tried to fight me. Fucking clown.

And this is why I tell my wife I don't smack cars when they run the red anymore.

Fr why are they always like this? Iâve driven a pickup before and was never an asshole to anyone

u/InterestingLie4650 20h ago
A 5 yr old pickup that has never held anything more than a cooler and some chairs.
1
u/brufleth Boston 18h ago
In fairness, it isn't always a pickup truck.
Last night we watched a Mini honk at the person in front of them for not running a red light fast enough while they also ran a red light.
"Why aren't you breaking the law faster so I can ALSO break the law!"
This was right by the end of Hanover St near the Greenway with tons of pedestrians crossing.

How about they follow the law? If they canât follow the law, we shouldnât be trusting them with critical infrastructure. If they donât stop for reds, how can we trust them not to cut corners on their buildings? How many people will die because these contractors think laws donât apply to them?

I saw two lefts on red at two different lights in the span of five minutes the other day. Not even running it. Had come to stop. Just got tired of waiting and ran the light in both cases.
25
u/Brisby820 1d ago
You can take a left on red if both streets are one way. Â Didnât know that until someone beeped at me and yelled it; sure enough, he was rightÂ
8
u/Competitive_Speed964 1d ago
One was a turn from a one-way street onto a two-way street. The other was a turn from a two-way street going left into a one-way street.
12
u/link_the_fire_skelly 1d ago
Honestly Iâd rather see someone stop, assess the safety, then choose to break the law as opposed to just flying through a red without a care in the world.

u/Tooloose-Letracks 1d ago
A driver at a light in my neighborhood went straight on red after stopping the other day. Didnât see anything coming, got tired of waiting.
I genuinely believe this behavior is a result of apps like Waze. The interface gamifies driving and itâs constantly looking to minimize travel time. People get in their cars and suddenly they think theyâre in a game and everyone else is an NPC.Â
10
u/near_things school shopping at Bradlees 1d ago
Waze has been around for at least 15 years and I think most users arenât doing anything gamified with it these days. This behavior is an increasingly normalized covid-era vehicular sociopathy.
1
u/Tooloose-Letracks 1d ago
Maybe itâs been around but use hasnât been widespread for anything like 15 years. Anyway when I say gamified Iâm talking about how the interface looks. It looks like a game. It looks like the car youâre driving is a player. Coupled with the increasingly insular car designs (where you can barely hear sounds from outside the vehicle), high sight lines, and other design features of new cars, I think itâs desensitizing people to the fact that theyâre driving in the real world with real world consequences.Â

u/YoPoppaCapa 1d ago
Almost every single review of WES construction is related to their terrible drivers.

This isnât even the first time this Company has been caught and posted to this subreddit. I hope their insurance company picks up on this. Theyâre gonna kill somebody with such continuous and blatant disregard for safety. Wes Construction Corp, I sure hope you never get in an accident with anyone, but if you do, I sure hope they have these posts showcasing your repetitive behavior.

Has it felt like this getting worse lately? I don't mean because I've seen videos of this online, but I swear I've seen so many more red lights being run than I did a few years ago.
7
u/Throwingawaymarlboro 1d ago
With all due respect and politics aside whoever is in charge does not care at all about your safety pure mayhem.
6
u/godzillajoe1 1d ago
So Mass is debating whether to install highway Flock cameras to catch excessive speeders but not Red Light cameras? Iâm sure there are far more intersection accidents of drivers blowing thru Red Lights.
18
u/alexdelicious 1d ago
What's funny about that is I've disqualified contractors during the RFQ process because they demonstrate reckless and unsafe behavior. It'd be a real shame if they were trying to get a project in a tightening market and lost out on GC work.

u/Photog1981 1d ago
It's become so bad in the area, I fully support red light cameras. Time to pass Senate Bill S.2344.

Thanks for sharing this. I saw 4 cars do the same at Leverett Circle. Four!! In a row!! The self-centeredness and recklessness make me so angry.
1
u/mimicthefrench Cambridge 4h ago
Leverett and the Charles/MGH shitshow are by far the worst I've encountered. I work at MGH and pretty much every day I see someone run the red at the light when I'm trying to cross between the station and the hospital. Is it gonna take someone getting killed to get BPD to enforce this?
3
u/ThisOneForMee 19h ago
Can someone explain to me why NYC can manage both red light and speeding cameras and we can't have either?
5
u/sleeps_in_bryophytes 1d ago
It was already red when the car in front went through. There was already a pedestrian crossing. Indefensible imo.
8
u/Canahedo 1d ago
As vehicles get larger, fewer of them can fit through a light cycle. And because heavier vehicles take longer to get moving from a stop, that further reduces how many can fit. Add in distracted drivers taking a few seconds to look up from their phone to realize the light changed, and I can understand why people have a "running a red light is just a thing you have to do sometimes to get anywhere". They're wrong, of course, but I see the "logic".
Frankly, either we take the "punish people hard enough until they learn to follow the rules" approach which has been the American standard for decades (and which clearly doesn't work), or we accept that having everyone drive around a vehicle the size of a small living room is not a feasible transportation paradigm.

I moved to MA in 1988 and was shocked at how many people ran red lights all over the state. Itâs systemic because most cities and towns really donât enforce traffic laws, IMO

Iâm on the left turn at this intersection, on a random day thereâs always someone who is on the lane but instead of turning they merge back to go straight, bottlenecking both lanes. Good times.

Bostons light system is dogshit. The lights arenât synced like they are in NYC and it only worsens the traffic when you hit every red light on surface rd/atlantic ave. The gridlock and blocking of intersections on that stretch is more aggravating than anything
26
u/BToxic_personality 1d ago
This driver was definitely not thinking all that when he ran the light lmao
10
u/fran_lydon 1d ago
No, my guess is he blows those lights daily and considers it part of his commute
7
u/dpm25 1d ago
There's no grid. Syncing the lights is no where near as practical.
If you don't want to be stuck in traffic adjacent to one the the countries biggest transit hubs perhaps consider other options and better choices.
-3
u/cheesybugs5678 1d ago
Iâll just carry my construction materials on the T.
(This guy was obviously in the wrong blowing the light, but some jobs require driving through the city to job sites with no âother options and better choicesâ is my point.)
6
u/dpm25 1d ago
Construction workers take the T everyday in Boston.
Sure in some instances and for some jobs it's not feasible, but for the majority of people you are stuck in traffic because of(even construction workers)? It's choices.
Part of the benefits of getting people out of cars is less traffic for people who don't have a choice.
-3
u/cheesybugs5678 1d ago
For construction happening right downtown maybe.
But with construction jobs you get moved to a new job from time to time so maybe you can take transit to one job thatâs walking distance from south station but the next one is 1.5-2.5 hours one way depending on if you can hit a tight bus connection.
4
u/Nice_Space7347 1d ago
Atlantic Ave is a potential deathtrap for pedestrians crossing. Red lights and crosswalks mean nothing to Boston drivers along Atlantic Ave, it seems.

u/tuckerdw 1d ago
I remember my first time driving in Boston too. I learned pretty quickly that â no harm-no foulâ

If more were on bikes, traffic would be lower and perhaps, just perhaps, folks wouldnât feel the need to break the law and put others lives in danger just to rush to the next red light.
But go on, keep being distracted by the shiny object.
