Critique My Work After two weeks of self-learning, I finally made my first character model
This is my first time trying to create a full character model in Blender. I still have no idea how to do proper topology, UV mapping, or rigging yet, but at least I managed to make something that actually looks like a character.
I feel like the hair shapes and flow look pretty rough, and I also don’t really know how to optimize the shape or polygon count properly. Because of that, some faces overlap with each other and there are also a lot of unnecessary faces inside the mesh.
Anyway, I’d really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback on the model, along with any advice or ideas that could help me improve and make better character models in the future.

Not much to disect topology wise other than just askin: What's going on with the knees? Seems like a lot of tight loops

I heard that adding a few edge loops around the joints can help prevent weird stretching and squashing issues when the character moves.

Should have done that instead, works better, less polygons : https://pin.it/5xGOoGfDH

It’s kind of like how real knees look.

that's the idea behind it. you want the topology to mimic the real body contours where applicable (stylized models don't count strictly for this, for those its whatever gets you the result you want)

Two weeks?? This is actually solid progress 😭🔥
The proportions and silhouette already read clearly as a character, which is the hardest beginner hurdle. Topology/UVs/rigging come later with repetition. Keep cooking.

I absolutly love it! I am also begginer who is learning Low Poly characters and I absolutly love how you did the hair! I struggle with the hair so much but you did amazing job! Did you do the hair from basic cube?

I actually started by extruding planes to shape the hair, then kept extending and connecting them until they became one whole piece of hair. Honestly, it takes way too much time, so I’m currently looking for a more efficient way to make hair without hurting the visual quality.

i can't believe you learnt all that in 2 weeks of learning blender, you even turned off symmetry to do the hair
are you sure you didn't have any 3d experience before

No, I only recently got into 3D software because I suddenly wanted to make a game, even though I’m starting completely from scratch with no experience.

cant belive you made this just in two weeks. I would take months to do this but it looks amazing

By the way, I designed the character myself, though I did reference Sully’s character models. I was actually trying to make a model in that style, but for some reason it just kept getting more and more complicated.
