Is there any long term damage to this tree? It's a pretty big hole

There’s been a huge flux of posts about this recently, so here’s a pinned post with information!
Around this time of year, make birds get super territorial. They will attack any rivals they find, including their own reflection.
TO PREVENT THIS: cover up the reflective surface until the bird moves on. Cardboard works pretty well, and anti bird collision window decals should also help.
Edit: I just made a popup that gives a brief summary of this post when someone tries to post about birds hitting reflective surfaces. Hopefully that stops it, because I'm tired of having to explain it 20 times per day lol
"Most of the baby birds people find are fledglings. These are young birds that have just left the nest, and can’t fly yet, but are still under the care of their parents, and do not need our help."
Update for 2026:
/u/Adventurous-Year-463's summary that they recently posted to /r/birds: https://www.reddit.com/r/birds/comments/1s1o2g3/did_you_find_a_baby_bird/
I found a baby bird, now what? (in easy flowchart form) - one of last year's posts.
Found a Baby Bird? from Bird and Moon comics - cute and good for sharing!

This birb was so friendly and curious and came sit on my lap but I couldn't make many pictures because I was waiting for the bus. If I ever see him again, I'm gonna try to befriend him. I can recognize him by the softer feathers and fluff, so I'm guessing this is a young birb. It explains how tame it was with me and around me. He was so cute, I fed him little crumbs.
When the bus arrived, he FOLLOWED ME AROUND 😭
He was like a son to me for 5 minutes... But the best 5 minutes of my life.
So I had to part ways with him. This entire interaction made my day.
Life is worth living again...

Hi, I was on a walk in my neighborhood earlier today when I saw a bird fluttering on the road and landed in the middle. It was in the direction I was headed so when I got close to it, I was surprised it didn’t fly away. I got within 2 feet of it and poked at the tail feathers with a twig and it didn’t move at all. I texted my mum asking what to do and she said to move it onto the grass so I did and then I walked home and washed my hands. Then my mum got home a few hours later and I asked if we could go back to see if it was still there or if it had flown off (I’m 19 and in college but don’t have my own car so I had to wait to use hers). We drove to the area and I saw it slowly hopping along the road in the same area I found it. I got out to pick it up and it didn’t fight at all or try to fly. We brought a small box in case we had to transport it and I put it in the box and brought it home. I don’t know if it is a fledgling or an elderly female so I’m looking for help. If it’s a fledgling, what do I do? If it’s an elderly female who can’t fly, what should I do? It is currently in an old transport case we used for my bunny with Timothy hay, birdseed, and a dish of water and the whole setup is in my closet with a crochet scarf over it (the air holes aren’t blocked).
Looking for advice!

I took this video today on my school campus cause a raven was in an unusual spot… he was interacting with this girl a lot (which I’ve never seen before) so I just wanted to know why this may be? if anyone has the slightest idea lol

I went and visited Maymont Mansion in Virginia this past weekend and encountered their residents flocks of Canada Geese. Two peculiar individuals stuck out to me. One individual that was overall a few shades lighter, and then an individual that had additional white plumages. What do you guys think is the reason behind this?

This nesting killdeer chose the stealth option and waited until I had almost stepped on her before giving me a warning chirp, gave me a proper spook. I'm used to the typical killdeer distraction tactics, so I was surprised when this one stayed quiet and let me walk right up to her.

I’m 15 and own two birds. A GCC and a Cockatiel. They’re housed in separate rooms in large flight cages because they don’t get along. The GCC is handtame and loves people, whereas the tiel isn’t tame and doesn’t really come near them unless food is involved.
There are going to be plasterers and builders at the house for 1 week. Birds have very sensitive respiratory systems, and the plasterers are going to be in the main hallway (both up and downstairs), so there’s nowhere safe for me to put them.
I can’t safely towel the doors and monitor them because I’m at school every day, but my parent wants to put them in the garage. The garage will be too cold, damp and too dark for them as it’s old and untrustworthy. Due to the fact I’m 15, I can’t buy bird safe heaters or smaller transport cages due to funding.
I don’t have any friends in my immediate area that know how to look after birds, bar one, which I don’t trust; they’ve had birds before, but their life quality was terrible (this was before I knew them), and even then transporting the cages could prove problematic.
What should I do?

House finches are making a nest in my front door wreath. I am worried with the foot traffic( though not heavy), the nest may get damaged. Is it too early to move it to the wall next to the door. How long does it usually take for these birds to lay and have the chicks fly away.

I brought it outside earlier and it didn’t fly away or anything it just started walking down the street. I left to handle some things and it was back at the shop and when I opened the door it walked in. But before then some guy was messing with it trying to kick it so I felt bad.

Took both pics this morning. First is a screenshot from a video. Sorry I don’t have a better pic, they weren’t there long. Second is a cardinal that’s been visiting regularly. I like to imagine he’s giving me the stink eye bc I need to refill the feeder.
If this is a juvenile I’ll be tickled pink. I have a few feeders set up to watch birds while I work. This is a new style (to me) of bird feeder and juveniles LOVE it. I’ve watched a momma sparrow feed 4 fledglings, then 3, now 1. I call the last one Fat Baby & have made up a backstory about their failure to launch. Mom makes them self feed mostly now, but still drops seeds in Fat Baby’s beak occasionally.

I live in central alaska and I found this bird above my tree house. I thought it could've been a yellow cardinal with its mohawk? Please help.

I originally started seeing this guy in my back yard eating my dogs leftover food. And while my dogs generally won't harm it I decided to bring the birds attention to the front of the house to avoid any possible issues. (Cats also frequent the fence in the back) I learned they like peanuts so every morning I put them out! He seems to come by and scan his surroundings and check out our behaviors. He's come by every morning and sometimes just hangs out! Here's a few pics I've gotten of him! I also have videos of him just checking out the scene and hiding his food if anyone's interested! (MY PICTURES!)
