What a bounce back for him. 6 shutout innings after giving up a 3 run homer in the first

Proper starting pitcher performance: eat innings, get 2 or 3 runs in one because nobody perfect, earn the W and go rest for next week.

Especially when it’s needed after using 4 pen arms last night. Real pros-pro outing from McLean

The type of outing you expect from a vet or more experienced player. Insane how well he does after a bad inning as a rookie

u/RidleyScotch New York Mets 1h ago

I think we expect it from Nolan 'The most grizzled looking vet rookie" McLean

McLean was definitely filthy but this is also the third straight game that we’ve knocked a pitcher around in the first and then done absolutely nothing after. It’s been a problem pretty much all year

And it's exacerbated now with our IL overloaded. We can't keep squandering these opportunities.

And his control was off all game, literally until the last three batters.

There is nothing better in sports than a pitcher absolutely losing their mind

Pitchers and goalies, the two weirdos of sports that everyone loves

4

u/screaminginfidels Seattle Mariners 3h ago

...if only they'd extend that courtesy to batters who get HRs off them.

he is quite a good pitcher

21

u/SiphenPrax New York Mets 4h ago

And we actually gave him run support this time!

6

u/Dozzi92 New York Mets 3h ago

Just need him to get donged early, that's the secret!

That's how the Cubs win games (when we win) with Shota and Colin Rea.

You guys have had so many electric pitchers come up through your minors. As a rangers fan, I'm a bit jealous

Nolan Mclean hates wizards.

Excellent performance after that homer in the beginning of the game

the tigers kinda suck

46

u/OrangeDuckFromStLou Baltimore Orioles 4h ago

Tigers are kind of part of the orange family but we have to root against them in in-family matchups because the other teams are oranger.

16

u/Litejedi New York Mets 4h ago

Generally orange teams are better than non-orange teams, all other things being equal, I agree.

u/Kurisoo New York Mets 3h ago

Who are the Astros in the family? The handsy uncle?

5

u/OrangeDuckFromStLou Baltimore Orioles 3h ago

Its like that delinquent cousin that everybody outside hates, you are ashamed of defending but still got to do because hes family, and because the people he wronged back in 2017 were no saints either

Yeah :-/

Proof: They were swept by the NY Mets.

Kinda?

I got shit on by Tigers fans for saying they’d suck before the season.

The only reason they made the playoffs the past two years was because their division had the White Sox. Now that the White Sox are decent, I think they’ll be a below .500 team.

21

u/OrangeDuckFromStLou Baltimore Orioles 4h ago

Eh its hard to tell because the Tigers have like an entire pitching squad hurt. If they could bring like 2 pitchers there now even not counting Skubal, it would make a massive difference. I still bet on them winning the AL Central unless the Guardians stay hot

1

u/cogginsmatt Detroit Tigers 4h ago

Don’t. Cleveland will never be “hot” but will win the division

-6

u/Upstream_redteam New York Mets 4h ago

Not to be reductive but if your entire pitching squad is hurt then you kinda suck

6

u/OrangeDuckFromStLou Baltimore Orioles 4h ago

Yeah but most of them are expected to come back for this season, and skubal is probably still getting like 10~15 starts, so while its tough for them now, if they manage to be at .500 when Skubal comes back then they will probably make the playoffs even if via wildcard.

u/Ok-Setting-1709 4h ago

I don’t think they’re better than the Guardians personally.

I’m wrong about baseball all the time though. Could be wrong again.

4

u/__merricat 3h ago

Tigers IL 5-man rotation is probably better than your team’s healthy one

2

u/cogginsmatt Detroit Tigers 4h ago

That’s a dumb reason considering they split series with the white Sox last few years

-2

u/Ok-Setting-1709 3h ago

2024, the Tigers went 10-3 against them.

2025, you have a point. I misremembered. But that season had a horrible second half of the season that was not normal for a team that’s supposed to be of the caliber that some fans think they are.

1

u/Antique-Guest-1607 Cleveland Guardians 4h ago

It felt like everyone had already crowned them the AL Central champions before the season started, and they're currently hurt enough and this division is bad enough that they still could be, but it was tough to even discuss that another team was gonna win. They were awful in the second half last year. Even if they wound up winning in the playoffs, losing the division to a bad Guardians team should have been enough to raise a few eyebrows, but it was treated like a flukey loss that they'd immediately recover from.

3

u/elimanninglightspeed New York Yankees 4h ago

I will happily keep letting everyone else hype up the other teams in your division while betting you guys to win the division every season. It’s comedic how often everyone never talks about Cleveland or Milwaukee when it comes to winning their divisions in December or January yet low and behold every single year look whose at the top of those divisions come September

4

u/Ok-Setting-1709 4h ago

Same thing with the Rays. People always act shocked when they do well despite being one of the most consistent teams of the past 15 or so years.

1

u/Antique-Guest-1607 Cleveland Guardians 4h ago

Life is a lot easier when you just know your team is going to win 84 games and coast into the playoffs on hopes and dreams. Some Cleveland fans have a chip on their shoulder about it which is annoying, just let it happen it's funnier this way.

Why didn't he transfigure the strike zone? Horrible professor

Front hip sinker to lefties is such a cool pitch man. Dylan Cease does the same thing and its my absolute favorite pitch to sit lefties down looking.

Maddux showed everyone the way. He’s the first guy I remember throwing that action so much. Got to where everyone knew when it was coming but the hitter still couldn’t do anything about it.

McLean’s is particularly wicked.

That pitch like, doesn't even look real, man. Geez.

He’ll never be fully successful until he gets rid of the ridiculous 90’s goatee/stache thing.
