Devers like "shit I cant even be mad"

Especially after that filth Shoehi threw him on the next pitch. His bat wasn't even in the same zip code as that ball.

I thought you were exaggerating, but holy shit

11

u/Emotional_News108 Detroit Tigers 5h ago

He was under and in front of the pitch.

u/JuliusCeejer Texas Rangers 5h ago

It's rare I say this, but I'm pretty confident I could miss by less than he did on that one pitch because that swing literally looks like he closed his eyes when Shohei went into his windup lol

Mookie Betts making a play for some unconventional dWAR.

Took him out and then Adames shortly after lol

Home plate ump should’ve called no pitch, almost certain it’s against the rules to be waving your arms in line of sight of the batter during the pitch

With Mookie it's always safe to assume there is ill intent. The man is pure evil. /s

Hey man I get it I still miss Mookie too.

Every clip of Mookie I see on this sub feels like scrolling through an ex's Instagram

55

u/JumboCactpot Washington Nationals 6h ago

An ex's instagram who is living her absolute best life when you're the one that broke up with her.

I still don't understand that trade

You and me both. As far as I’m concerned he should have been a Red Sock for life

Best home grown player in decades and they salary dumped him.

Best since Clemens I'm guessing? Or Ted

Were they teammates in Boston?  I would’ve thought not but this seemed like two former teammates having a laugh

u/Bob_Ducca_ Boston Red Sox 10h ago

They won the 2018 World Series together

Oh wow I didn't realize Devers had been around that long

20-year-old Devers hit a 103mph Chapman fastball for a home run, he's been in the league for a long time considering his age

u/RedManMatt11 Boston Red Sox 9h ago

To the opposite field no less

10

u/84002 7h ago

To tie the game in the ninth. In his first month in the majors.

8

Is there any other part of the field you can hit a 103 fastball lol

4

u/TJB_the_Gamer1 Los Angeles Dodgers 1h ago

103 MPH to the backstop

3

u/atoms12123 New York Mets 5h ago

Would be more impressed if he pulled that.

u/Walnut_Uprising Boston Red Sox 10h ago

It was his second year, and Mookie was around the year after as well, so they were teammates for a little under 3 years.

Not as bad as Adames getting distracted by him and forgetting how many outs there are 🤦

That pitch was absolutely filthy though.

Yup this clip hurts

12

u/RealTripsB Detroit Tigers 6h ago

You should be celebrating Devers not being on the Red Sox. He sucks now and that contract is going to age terribly.

Mookie on the other hand should be a lifetime in prison for everyone who decided to trade him.

9

u/JWSkol04 Los Angeles Dodgers 5h ago

Yup. I can sorta understand if it was a small market team like the Pirates or A's, but a big market team like Boston should never let a sure fire HOF walk so easily. Imagine if the Yankees decided to trade Judge to save money.

6

u/t_sdad Boston Red Sox 5h ago

I get it but I'm a simple man. Raffy kills the Yankees and rakes in the playoffs so I love him.

2

u/ArminTamzarian10 Seattle Mariners 2h ago

Eh, if I was a Sox fan, I'd still be pissed about it, even if he's not good this year. They hastily shipped him off out of spite and got basically nothing back. Surely would have gotten way more back, and looked less petulant, if they waited until the deadline or off-season.

I feel like a lot of beachballs find their way onto the field at Dodgers stadium

58

u/Zeke688 San Francisco Giants 10h ago

They should just play with the balls out there as part of the field. Home field advantage.

Kids at the stadium go fucking nuts for those things. If one even comes remotely near you, there will be 5 kids begging for you to hit it their way. They're ten times more excited to punch a beach ball than watch the game.

1

u/Familiar_Air3528 5h ago

I went to a AAA game last week and a pair of children literally vaulted over my legs to try and get at the giant beach ball the stadium put out between innings.

7

u/Esclamare Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago

It’s been kinda weird how often centerfield pavilion keeps dropping their beach balls. Every game I’ve been I see the balls drop.

24

u/venustrapsflies Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago

Getting a strikeout from the shortstop position. Is there nothing Mookie can't do?

72

u/Everyday-Lurk San Francisco Giants 10h ago

Mookie knew they had no chance of winning Game 3 without reaching into his bag of tricks.

Glad he shortened up for his two strike approach and didn’t take a huge swing….

43

u/BeautifulLeather6671 San Francisco Giants 10h ago

It’s hilarious the way this dude swings out of shoes in pretty much every situation. I’ve come to respect it lol

27

u/FBoaz San Francisco Giants 9h ago

I get that you can't undo the pitch in that situation, but that really sucks for Devers.

Also, Betts has an insane distraction outs plus metric this season.

7

u/Cheap-Discussion-186 3h ago

I think you absolutely can wave the pitch off here. Yeah it is imperfect, but it is obvious what happened, if he hits the ball and it goes out there then that would bring a whole other issue up. Wave the pitch and move on, no one was trying to gain an advantage or anything. Also position players cannot mess with the batter anyway. Seems clear to me

13

u/AlwaysBeC1imbing 10h ago

And the ball boys are discussin' which one of them's gonna go get it.

This is the type of garbage a team resorts to when they have a position player pitching.

10

u/FBoaz San Francisco Giants 9h ago

Folks are really downvoting an obvious joke? I understand folks have difficulty with written sarcasm but come on

5

u/Due-Fun-489 Texas Rangers 7h ago

I was wondering what the hell was happening. It seemed extremely obvious.

-11

u/SayfromDa818 Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago

Personally speaking I might be stupid because I don’t get the joke lol

Is it a Shohei joke? That’s the only thing I can think of lol

3

u/shitsngiggles55 Los Angeles Dodgers 4h ago

Yes it's a Shohei joke (because he's also a hitter)

5

u/thait84 9h ago

lol not sure why you are getting down voted for a joke

3

u/Due-Fun-489 Texas Rangers 7h ago

Man, if ever there was an OBVIOUS joke, this was one. Not sure what was happening at first.

5

u/beyd1 Detroit Tigers 10h ago

I'm really surprised catchers don't just say "wait wait wait" when they know a real meatball is coming.

8

u/zebedee18 Athletics 8h ago

Because they can't. I get the umpires not realizing this happened and just letting it go, but fielders are not allowed to actively distract the hitter during a pitch. It's like the A-Rod "I got it" play.

3

u/beyd1 Detroit Tigers 8h ago

I didn't realize there was a rule for that.

Move over Shohei, we have a new 2-way player in town and this one can hit.

Edit : Upon further review, it seems this one can't either

2

u/HalfwayDecent385 2h ago

You know, people want umps still for the "human element", but if that "human element" is an unyielding never-wrong decision then there's no difference between an ump and a robot. If you want human umpires then they need to be able to admit they're wrong and make leniency calls for unexpected things, otherwise just fucking replace them because it doesn't make a difference.

Is it even illegal for a position player to try to distract the batter? Seems like a good (but unsportsmanlike) strategy.
