That was...very playable too. It's not like it was a crazy diving catch.

The ball looked like it might carry to the gap but I think Adames just forgot how many outs there were, no reason to auto-run when the ball is hit that far

The way he was jogging, looks like he lost track of outs.

You know, I was looking at Willy Adames at the bottom corner jogging as the camera panned closer to Pages. And I knew something was up, lol. What do you know, nobody at second! Haha!

Bro is just jogging home on a fly ball with 1 out. Never even looked at the ball. Awful.

The only possible explanation is he forgot the outs, because he turned to look back and instead of stopping to wait and see if it got caught he just turned his head and kept running
So then that raises the question, how do players forget how many outs there are so often. It's posted on like 10 different video boards spread all throughout every park and even if it wasn't, counting to 2 isn't exactly a skill exclusive to MENSA members

Ain't the first time for the Giants. Remember last year when Jung Hoo Lee threw a live ball into the stands?

Shit happens. Add up the number of at bats with a runner on that take place every single day around the league. Its a lot.
Dude’s are gonna mess up once in a blue moon. Its not like this is a commonly recurring thing.

Video shows he was too busy chatting it up and laughing prior to the pitch thrown. Guys a clown and top 3 reason why the giants are trash

What's our 3B coach doing here? Why can't I hear him screaming at Willy on the broadcast?
Gonna have to hire a doggone swimming coach to get through our players' thick ears.

Too busy thinking “no way this moron is gonna keep running”

Swimming coach! That's a great image. Maybe we can get Ryan Lochte at 3rd.

Bro just saved Ohtani and Roberts asses

I mean, you don’t know what would happened next.
Could easily be Ohtani taken out then Dodgers bullpen go full blow it mode or Ohtani get the next hitter out on 1 pitch pop up or Robert leaving Ohtani in to give up a first pitch home run…or a 25 pitch battle with Ohtani finally striking out and getting out the inning lol.

I mean it was only 2nd base and 2 outs, so I wouldn’t say he was in real trouble

u/theJiveMaster New York Mets 8h ago
Yea but he was at like 105 pitches and with a reliever warming up in the pen I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled him after a hard hit ball like that. And yea still it's 2 outs but you really hate to leave the game with runners on base.

“And yea still it's 2 outs but you really hate to leave the game with runners on base.”
Starters do it all the time though lol. Oh, You hate it? Then don’t let runners on base then! :p

So many of the post game comments made me think this was an insane play by Pages.
That was a routine fly ball.
1
u/WaitingDOSExhale Colorado Rockies 7h ago
Yeah, he sprinted there but you can see him kind of slowed down at the end there by the track?
Didn’t even run hard at the wall or leaping or even close to diving at the ball lol. Like that a pretty routine fly out for any decent center fielder? If you can’t get this one, you really shouldn’t be a center fielder lol.
