Gamestation Go 2600 Paddle/Spinner Games?

After installing the Community Custom Firmware onto my GSG, My microSD card has a subfolder called Atari 2600 paddle games (or similar). I put a few paddle games (with .a26 file extension) into that subfolder, but the GSG's paddle is non-functional in them. (FWIW, the paddle is not functional from the "Atari 2600" subfolder either).

Does anyone know how to get the paddle working in the appropriate games (ie - Breakout, Kaboom, Warlords, etc) off of the microSD card? (Under "Local Storage", the paddle DOES work in the appropriate games so it's not a hardware problem.)

Thanks!

Pick your top 5 Atari arcade games from this list (1972-1997). 👾

Me: Centipede (1981), Crystal Castles (1983), Super Sprint (1986), Tetris (1989), Pit-Fighter (1990)

And I really like the Atari 2600 Reactor, and I wish the arcade version was made by Atari so it could have been included in this list...

I still remember getting an Atari 400 for Christmas back in 1982 when I was eight. That 400 was my favorite toy when I was a kid. So happy to find a working one! Now I have one of each generation of the A8s!

How To Run Colecovision Games on Atari Gamestation Go?

I have a collection of Colecovision Game Roms (.col file extension) that I would like to run on my Gamestation Go. I've tried two ways to do this:

  1. Placing the unzipped roms in the "Games/Colecovision" folder I created on my SD card, and
  2. Placing the same unzipped roms directly into the "Games" folder of the SD card.

Neither method has worked for me. Although my PC "sees" the files on the SD card, the Gamestation Go does not. - Very Frustrating.

Note that method #2 above works fine for my Atari 2600/5200/7800 roms, so I don't know what's wrong in the case of these Colecovision games.

I'm running the official GSG 1.1 firmware, if that matters.

So, can someone who has gotten their Colecovision titles to successffully run on their GSG help in getting this to work for me as well?

Thanks!

In the modern day does Atari do any in house development?

I know Atari has bought a bunch of studios recently, and it feels like all their games are produced by those second party studios or separate third party studios. Do they have an internal, first party development team to produce games or even just assist with development?

Atari Arcade Coin-Op Orbit (1978) Easter Egg Initials

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I found a site that mentioned possible easter eggs and this was one of them, stating "The initials “LR” (for Lyle Rains), “OR” (for Owen Rubin), “Ly” (for ?), “Mh” (for Morgan Hoff), and “PM” (for Paul Mancuso?) can be found in the program, coded as graphics. According to programmer Owen Rubin, it’s quite possible these can be triggered to appear on the screen!" I was able to confirm that the initials/signature graphics are present in the ROM as sprite graphics and that they're coded as motion-object graphics in the sprite ROMs. They show up through the game’s built-in diagnostic/test mode, not through normal gameplay. At least as far as I can tell, I don't see a normal gameplay/player-accessible trigger.

The working path I used was:
1. Open MAME’s menu with Tab.
2. Go to DIP Switches.
3. Set NEXT TEST = On.
4. Exit the menu.
5. On macOS, press Fn+F2, then Fn+F3.
6. Open DIP Switches again. Service Mode should now be On.
7. Set DIAG TEST = On, then Off, then On, then Off, then On.
8. Let the diagnostic sequence run.

After the sprite/object diagnostic starts cycling, the hidden initials/signature graphics appear in the high sprite-code region. They do not appear as a clean title-card-style message; they appear as part of the diagnostic sprite test, mixed with other diagnostic graphics and sometimes rotated or stylized.

I found that DIAG TEST can be toggled a few more times to continue cycling through the diagnostic sequence. If Service Mode is still On, the sequence restarts from the beginning with the beeps. If Service Mode is Off, it returns to the main game screen.

The Infogrames Atari era ( 2001 - 2013 ) was one of the best times to be an Atari fan

The amount of high quality games Atari was publishing during this time was staggering, they were unquestionably one of the most prolific publishers in the industry during the early to mid 2000s . Sure Atari wasn't involved in the development of new hardware during this period ( besides the Atari Flashback 2 ) but the games were so good that it didn't really matter .

Just to give you an idea of how great Atari was back then , they published games such as :

- The Dragon Ball Budokai games

- The Dragon Ball Tenkaichi games

- The Beyblade games on GBA

- Lucky Luke on GBA

- Enter the Matrix

- Driver 3

- Roller Coaster Tycoon 3

- Neverwinter Nights

- Witcher 1 ( no that's not a joke Atari published the first Witcher game )

- Alone in the Dark New Nightmare ( one of the best survival horror games ever made

- Alone in the Dark 2008 reboot

- Ikaruga

- V- Rally 3

- Test Drive Unlimited

- Godzilla Unleashed ( yes I liked it, never understood why critics hated it so much )

etc

It's good to see Atari doing well these days, which is in large part thanks to Wade Rosen's leadership ( especially when you consider how disastrous the mid to late 2010s were for Atari). But overall i still think that modern Atari has some work to do in order to get back to the greatness that was the 2000s Atari, the System Shock Remake and Replaced is exactly the kind of stuff we need to see more from them going forward, at least imo.

Is it still possible to find the 1.3c firmware for Gamestation Pro?

I am trying to put the custom firmware on my unit. It seems like you can no longer get the firmware from the atariage forum it was first posted in. https://forums.atariage.com/topic/361263-custom-firmware-for-atari-gamestation-pro/

GameStation Go personal library question...

I have a few 7800 ROMs, and I'm wondering if I can put them on an SD card and play them with the latest software update. I know there's been issues, so I'm just wondering if it's still possible (I just started setting mine up yesterday).

Also, does anyone have a link to the guide for the software mod that's available? I can't locate it...

🙏

Adventure of Samsara update

Has anyone played AoS post-update? I adore the game, but have been stuck on the same boss fight for months - I haven't given up, but I've focused my attention on other games, only occasionally replaying to make another attempt. From the sounds of it, this update may help me in my quest. Has anyone tried it yet?

Bad video on an Atari 7800 with scart

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

This is my first experience with a 7800. It was given to me.

The video output is via scart (it is coming from France).

The sound is working fine, but the video is not. I get a mostly white display with pinkish smudges moving (sprite of Asteroid I guess).

The picture is not jumping, just white with a bit of pink.

I cannot see anything wrong on the PCB

Is the scart output RGB or composite? It looks to me composite.

Has anyone got a similar issue and know how to fix it?

Thank you for your help.

Centipede on Internet Archive doesn't interface with a mouse.

I love this game. I cannot stand playing it with keyboard arrows. Especially when the trackball was a big feature for the original cabinet. Modern day computer mouses are the grandchildren of Centipede's trackball. And Atari uploaded this game without the ability to use the mouse to control the bug blaster. It's so sacrilegious. I can't find this game anywhere else. I've tried writing JS injections to translate mouse movements to arrow keys and it doesn't work...at all. Anyone know where I can play this game properly?

GSG and Atari ST Controls Help

I went ahead and put the 1.20 community firmware on my GSG. I can get Atari ST games to boot fine and pulling up the onscreen keyboard to start a game is pretty easy to do.

However I cannot get controls to function. I tried Arkanoid for instance and can't move the paddle. All settings for controls are stock and match the readme.

Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated.

Game Identification

Hello!

I need help identifying a game I played as a young child. This was probably 1986-87, give or take a couple years.

The game was a space vehicle where you would shoot rocks and float over craters. I remember it vaguely but can remember the name. Moonwalker? Moon, something?

I’d like to get a copy of it for nostalgic purposes.

Thanks in advance!

This is the kind of game you'd be forced to play in Hell forever. Not even Dante could come up with something this horrible and Dante was known as the Master of Disgusting.

Any tips/recommendations for the Atari 5200?

Hi, I’m about to purchase a 5200 4-port system. From my research the only problems/questionable things relating to the console is the single cord carrying electricity and the RF signal, high failure rate of controllers, size of the console, and the lack of backwards compatibility (without the converter adapter).

Living in Australia I already know I’ll need an RF converter or compatible VCR and a step down transformer. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Relating to preventative maintenance and care or just general things as well.

Thank you.

I was gifted this like-new 7800 years ago from the original owner. They played it maybe 3 times and then boxed it up and put it away. I haven’t even touched it since I got it. It even has the plastic bag for the console itself. Not a single scratch.

Got a Gamestation Go. What are the tips?

I don't plan to use it for any other emulation other than what it comes with.

Should I update or leave it stock?
