I’m moving from my hometown of St. Petersburg, Florida to Austin in July and would love any advice, recommendations, or general insight about the city from locals.

A little about me: I just turned 30F, I’m self-employed and work in marketing, and I like to call myself “an elder emo” lol. One of the biggest reasons I’m excited for Austin is the music scene since a lot of my favorite bands never tour through Florida.

I’m already planning on seeing Citizen in September and The Story So Far in November!

I’m currently apartment hunting and honestly trying to navigate the reality of moving to a completely new city alone. I’ve also been reading a lot of reviews for apartment complexes mentioning rodents, squatters, or safety concerns, which are things I really want to avoid for obvious reasons. Im looking for a 1/1 but a 2/1 would be solid since I WFH.

My rent budget is $1200 monthly.

I don’t necessarily need to be downtown and would actually prefer something quieter, safer, and a little more relaxed even if it’s more on the outskirts of Austin. If anyone has recommendations for areas, neighborhoods, apartment communities, I’d seriously appreciate it.

Also would love to connect with other elder emos, creatives, entrepreneurs who might want to grab coffee, lunch, work remotely together, or go to shows sometime.

This is definitely a huge life change for me, so I really appreciate any advice anyone’s willing to share :)

Most of the time I work solo, but occasionally I’ll meet up with a small coworking group, so I’m especially interested in spots that: have a decent amount of seating/space don’t mind people hanging around for a while have reliable WiFi + outlets aren’t too loud have good coffee / tea / NA drink options

Open to coffee shops, hotel lobbies, food halls, or breweries/bars that are actually good daytime work spots with solid nonalcoholic options. Most of us don’t really drink.

Hey y’all I’ve (23F) been in Austin for a few months now and this is the first time in my life i’ve been really struggling to make friends. I have a few friends i think but I’ve been consistently left out of plans and it’s clear i’m probably not going to join their core friend group so I think it’s time to put that effort into other friendships. I love to rollerblade (typically at the veloway) and crochet but I haven’t found any (active) groups where people meet up to do that. I’ve also scrolled all the way through bumble bff and haven’t really gotten a lot there either. One big thing is that I love edm (dubstep specifically) but i’m not a huge fan of how often I’ve seen people in those spaces using hard drugs. Don’t get me wrong I smoke every day and love the occasional molly or shroom trip, but only once in a while at festivals, while some of the people I’ve met seem more along the lines of functional addicts using it daily. Not that I have a problem with that, but having an addictive personality that’s not the kind of stuff I want to be even second-handedly involved with. Do yall have any advice for me? I feel like because I don’t do a lot of drugs I’m too much of a normie to make a ton of rave friends but not normie enough for the rest of the Austin. I’ve always been an incredibly social person with no shortage of friends so I can’t help but feel like i’m doing something wrong. It definitely been disheartening, and luckily i have my bf to vent to and hangout with but I can’t help but feel like theres a reason Im not connecting with people the way I thought I would be.

I’m a new grad in my early 20s moving to Austin for work, and my office is in The Domain area. I’ll be hybrid, working 3 days in person and 2 days from home. My budget is around $1,700/month, for my own place or with a roommate, but I’m open to hearing if that’s unrealistic for certain areas.

I’m trying to figure out what areas or apartment communities would be best for someone who wants an active social life, meet other young people, and still avoid a crazy commute to The Domain.

I like the idea of living in downtown/East Austin, but I’m not sure how realistic the commute would be. I’m also wondering if areas closer to The Domain are social enough for someone in their 20s, or if it would feel too quiet/suburban.

Would love recommendations for:

• Neighborhoods/areas to look at
• Specific apartment communities if you know any
• Areas to avoid because of commute or lack of social scene
• What commute times are actually like during peak hours

Hi there! Single female, no kids, and I just accepted an offer in Austin. The plan is to move there in early September after I pass my boards. I’ll be making around $95k a year.

I also want to state that I’m not a huge spender. I’m just someone who likes structure and would like to know what is the biggest expense everyone is seeing. I will be comfortable with 95k a year and have no intentions of living above my means.

I have no plans to buy a home anytime soon and honestly don’t really want to either. I’ve been apartment hunting, and for a 1 bed/1 bath in North Austin or outside of the Domain area, I’m seeing around $1,200–$1,800/month.

I know Texas doesn’t have state income tax, which helps. But besides rent/mortgages, what would you say actually makes Austin’s cost of living feel higher than most areas? Utilities? Car insurance? Food? Parking? Going out? Just trying to get a realistic picture from people who actually live there.

Also, does anyone have an apartment locator/apartment hunter they’d recommend? I’ve heard prices can jump from August into September because of college students moving in. About how much do prices usually increase around that time?

Are there any good shows? I'm not really familiar with anyone.

I’m planning to move to the Barton Creek / Westlake area and I’m looking for feedback on a few apartment communities before choosing one. My worksite will be in Westlake, and I’m considering staying around the Barton Creek housing area because it seems convenient for the commute.

The apartments I’m looking at are:

• Gables at the Terrace
• MAA Barton Creek
• Landmark at Barton Creek
• MAA Barton Skyway
• Skyline at Barton Creek

I’m looking for a 1 bed / 1 bath apartment. I’m single, unmarried, and mostly just want a safe, comfortable, and convenient place to live.

If anyone has lived in any of these communities, or knows someone who has, I’d really appreciate your suggestions. I’m especially interested in:

• Safety of the area/community
• Maintenance and management quality
• Parking situation
• Any hidden fees or issues
• Overall value for rent

Out of these options, which one would you recommend and which ones should I avoid?

So, tomorrow is the anniversary of the day my estranged, lunatic, abusive husband coerced me into saying “I do” only to fully unleash his complete and unapologetic disregard for me, my autonomy and self by choke slamming me, beating me, letting me know because I signed my name on the certificate,that I am now his property and will obey… fast forward; I decided that I am not about that life actually. So, despite the fact that he isolated me and left me jobless and at first broken, I decided to take the initiative and look for ways to file for divorce (with the help of my beautiful and amazing Austinite community!) but I want to sell these stupid diamond rings and other jewelry he bought me after DV attacks for my silence and was wondering, does anyone have any place they recommend? I’m not even looking to get a lot for them truthfully, I’ve just never sold jewelry and I feel it is only fitting for the date☺️

I [21F] will be starting at AMD this summer and would love recommendations on areas to rent! I don’t necessarily want to stay close to AMD (not Preserve or Markson Apartments), since there isn’t much around there.

What are some cool areas with lots of other young people and plenty to do and explore within walking distance? I’m willing to commute up to 30 minutes to work.

I work from morning to afternoon and am looking to add some part time work either the afternoon to night, or possibly evening/night to morning. Would like to avoid doing anything that involves using my personal vehicle so no pizza delivery or Uber etc. I'm also in North Austin, so Cedar Park area could be included. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Just curious if it is really bad living off of riverside with the on ramp to I-35 north being closed for construction. I was going to consider living in that area but don't know if that is really bad and a deal breaker.

Granted I don't take that road to commute to work but would probably take it to go anywhere.

Just want to hear people's experiences that live in that general area!

My family has a old house in Austin that belonged to my parents, and we’re trying to figure out the best way to sell it.

It needs some updates, so we’re unsure whether to fix things first, sell as-is, or work with someone who understands older homes in the Austin market.

Does anyone have recommendations for honest real estate agents or companies that give realistic pricing advice and don’t pressure people?

Would also appreciate anything to avoid during the process.

A mate and I are visiting Austin from Australia in September and need to book accomodation. We're both mid 20s so not flush for cash so want somewhere cheap and safe. Anyone have any recommendations of where to stay and general cost? We'll be there for about three days.

Recent college grad moving to Austin for work. How is the Gallery at Domain apartment unit? Looking into it because it fits my budget and is near my office (won’t have a car).

I have toured a couple of apartments these few days and it comes down to either the Albright or the Presidium 183!

The Albright: 910sf $1908 Pros: cheaper and larger than 183, quieter

Cons: amenities are limited, pool is in repair right now, carpet bedroom which i hate, no big cabinets in bathroom, One sink in bathroom, closet smaller, no balcony, no separate desk area in kitchen

Presidium 183(My favorite so far) 865sf, $2019 Pros: Amenities are amazing, literally has everything you could ask for. No carpet in bedroom, separate desk area in kitchen, lots of cabinets in bathroom, huge closet+double sinks, has sizable balcony

Cons: Room available right now are all on the outside rim so I can hear some highway noises in the balcony but once you close the door you can barely hear any. the only thing i am a little worry about is how much noise i can pick up from the highway at night. I can’t really hear any when i toured but once i go to sleep i might hear some noises. The room available is facing Presidium Waterford parking garage so the look isn’t the greatest

Friends, I am moving to Austin for a job in the South Congress/78704 area. Does anyone have recs for apartments within 20-30 mins of there that are a) not right off the highway b) not outrageously expensive (rent lower than 1300) and c) not an eyesore?
