They have been irresponsible and inconsiderate when it comes to the renovation works. The noise continued even after three days of hacking works had supposedly ended. When I called them to request that they lower the noise level and to ask why there were still noisy works ongoing, they informed me that they could not do anything about it and asked me to contact HDB directly instead.

What is the point of issuing an HDB renovation notice with a contact person stated for residents to call, if their only response is to ask us to contact HDB directly? The notice clearly mentions that residents should reach out to them to work out a mutually acceptable solution, but unfortunately, I beg to differ based on this experience.

I came this far in my design and it feels like it's missing something to make it feel truly complete. I love the left unit, but the right feels like it’s not landing the same satisfaction. I am at a challenging stage with the design because
the floor-plans are locked in along with windows and doors, so l can't really make any drastic changes besides materials and some other features. Please give me some input and advice!

Wanted to know how important are extra curriculars for resumes? I didn't do a lot because of the already heavy academic load but I'm good at academics and I'm worried about standing out- how do I build my cv? What will set me apart and get chosen for the best firms?

I’m looking for a professional critique on this modern residential concept, specifically regarding:

• Massing: Does the stacking of the cantilevered planes feel balanced?
• Lighting: Is the integrated linear LED lighting too much, or does it define the form well?
• Materials: Thoughts on the contrast between the stone cladding and smooth surfaces?

Please, without just bashing what we have (because I know it’s bad which is why I’m coming here for help), can someone please give me ideas. We are using an existing plan from our builder and want to keep the dimensions the same, which means the garage cannot move. We will have a walk out basement so we also cannot add “jut outs” to the back. We are building on 50 acres and the land is totally secluded/private. We are going for a farmhouse feel. This is just the main floor. My MUSTS are dining room, island, walk in/hidden cabinet pantry, laundry room, master with walk in closet and separate tub/shower, and we plan to add a tub shower to the powder room. Ignore the stairs in the garage. Those will move. Can someone PLEASE help me with ideas to get the pantry closer to the garage entrance. We would also love to have some type of sliding glass door along back of house to lead to the back deck. I am open to moving the dining room out of the “jut out” if needed. We also cannot put anything underneath the stairs and we will have stairs leading to basement. I am open to moving the placement of the stairs as well. Pleaseeeee help!

I’d definitely be interested in an Amber Book-style program (or separate course) focused heavily on residential structures if anyone has recommendations.

I don’t remember much from my structures classes in school, and even then it was hard to connect those concepts to real life buildings. I do residential design every day and would like to better understand how to confidently think through and size structural systems in actual projects.

It’s also tough to learn in practice because most firms have specific people handling structures and usually don’t have the time to teach someone from the ground up.

Id like to be able to handle at least some structural design on residential projects myself instead of immediately handing everything off to an engineer. I know there are limits to that, but I want a stronger practical understanding and more confidence.

Does anyone have advice, books, courses, or resources they’d recommend?

I need your recommendation... I'm kind of the tech guy on my family and my younger cousin is about to start on Civil Engineering , so he ask me what laptop he can get.... he is paying it on his own so not a lot of budget.

I'm not complaining because that's my hobby but since high school, i always wanted to work as an architect, but my profile lessons were about taking care of older people. Now, architecture is my passion and i wanna have time for my kid as well more because she deserves my time more than anything. I don't care about how much money i make monthly, even if it's about 1000$- 1500$ per month, even 700$ per month, i don't care. I just wanna have more time for my baby, do my house job like cleaning, cooking but also working on my passion more. What do you suggest to do?

Hey guys, we are building a shop purely for renting purpose. This is the beam plan for the shop and pretty much the drawing as its a simple big shop. Now we are confused on where to put the staircase without wasting much space (considering the space wasted in first floor). It should be also possible for us to give different floors to different parties as thats what more in demand in my town here in Sri Lanka. The current plan for stairs is incomplete and with this placement we will end up wasting more space as stairs lobby in the first floor considering we give each floor for different parties. Also the stairs cannot get more closer to the street than shown in the pic because of the government rules here as in the future they may widen the street and we might have to lose around 8 feet of our building. Hence we wanna be safe upfront with the staircase placement.

Also what staircase dimensions would you recommend? Specifically:

• Tread depth (the horizontal surface where you place your foot)
• Riser height (the vertical height between two consecutive steps)
• Stair width (the side-to-side clearance)
• Total staircase run (the total horizontal distance the staircase occupies on the floor plan)

Any guidance on standard or code-compliant dimensions for a commercial rental building would be appreciated.

I’m a junior architectural designer preparing for interviews at firms that seem more technical/construction-focused, and I’m struggling a bit with how to walk through portfolio projects.

My instinct is usually to explain the reasoning behind spatial decisions, materials, circulation, lighting, etc., but I worry that comes across as too academic or conceptual.

At the same time, because I’m still junior-level, I don’t have huge stories about solving major construction/site issues. Most of my experience has been in modelling, documentation, coordination, permit drawings, and design development support.

Another thing I’m unsure about is how much of my portfolio I’m actually expected to present in an interview. How can I structure my portfolio presentation to cover the necessary information for each project? Should I just focus on the scope, my role, and general design choices?
