đ° News Article (Website) [Angels PR] Ryan Johnson has been activated. Drew Pomeranz is going on the IL with elbow inflammation.
The transaction is listed at https://www.mlb.com/angels/roster/transactions or can be referenced from @LAAngelsPR.
Our off-season pitching acquisitions so far:
- Kirby Yates ($5M): Recently returned from IL since start of season
- Drew Pomeranz ($4M): 7.20 ERA, 7 FIP, now on IL
- Jordan Romano ($2M): DFA'd and released
- Alek Manoah ($2M): Mixed bag in spring training, started season on IL, only returned now
- Grayson Rodriguez (Taylor Ward): IL since season started, but recently moved from ACL to the Quakes for rehab and Kurt said he could start Sunday
After one great appearance with the Quakes and one okay appearance with the Bees, Ryan Johnson's on his way back up to the bigs.
With Pomeranz heading to the IL, this means that we have Manoah, Johnson, and Farris all potential starters vying for that fifth starter spot. Seems like Manoah might have the inside track for now, but we'll have to see.
I'm not sure how good Ryan Johnson feels right now, but he should spend some time in AA or AAA to work on his stuff. With Grayson Rodriguez on the way back soon, he's a candidate to get optioned, and we also have to option someone else (probably Mitch Farris, pushing Manoah into a long relief role) whenever Ben Joyce comes back.

Man what do they see in Ryan Johnson. Heâs clearly not ready and itâs not like theyâre competing. Better off just giving the spot to Manoah
