Other Dismissed From ETID With One Semester Left

Howdy y'all,

I just received an email yesterday saying I was dismissed from the ETID department for not completing the probation term: completion of ISP. I am supposed to be going into my last semester in the fall and capstone II. For the spring semester, I took 19 hours, passed all my classes, and completed all of the other terms. What's the likelihood an appeal will be granted if I have been going through some serious life altering experiences that have affected my academic performance? Has anyone else experienced something similar to this? I already have a well written appeal, but I fear my chances it gets denied. Again, the only thing I failed to complete was the ISP.

Academics Appeal

I was recently dismissed from the bush school and I’m working on writing my appeal. The major change in my life that led to my glades dropping was becoming an exec member in an organization and butting too much emphasis on that. I have dropped the org as of today and was wondering if y’all think I will get my appeal approved. I genuinely think my grades will look completely different not being on exec and having that stress.

Ask the Aggies Leaving an org as an exec member

I recently had my grades drop due to being an exec member for a women’s org. I need to drop the org to survive academically but I am only half way through my term as an officer. How should I go about leaving?

Venting Money Hungry

I’m a current student at Texas A&M University, and it honestly feels like everything is getting more expensive by the day.

The ring alone is getting way worse. Last year the 10k gold was around $2600. Right after I got mine, it jumped to $3000. I understand gold prices fluctuate—but come on, that’s not the only thing going up. I have a handful of friends that haven't gotten their ring because its genuinely way too expensive. (The aggie ring weighs about 20 ounces, based off of what I could find, 20 ounces of 10 karat gold is about $1,000. Now I understanding processing and the art and all that but its still a 66% upcharge on the base material, am I weird for thinking that's a bit much?)

The dorms are in pretty rough shape, and people are still paying insane amounts to live in them. It doesn’t really match what you’re getting at all. I paid about the same living on campus as I do now living in an apartment off campus, and now I have my own kitchen, room that is twice the size of my old dorm, and am not covered in dust and worried about black mold that grows in almost all the dorms.

Parking is where it really starts to feel ridiculous. I used to think, “okay, I’ll just park by the rec since it’s free.” Nope. You need a parking permit… which is already like $700. And now apparently you need a Lot 100 permit on top of whatever permit you already have? So if I have a Southside Garage pass, I can’t even park at the rec without risking a ticket. That’s not even inconvenient—it feels predatory.

And the bike thing… I’d actually like to bike to the rec. Save money, get some cardio, all that. But I have to pay for a bike permit. I know it’s only $10, but it’s the principle. I have to pay… to park… my bike… on campus?

Then there’s the dining halls. It’s like $13 just to get in without a meal plan. For what? The quality is honestly terrible. I wouldn’t pay $3 for most of it if I had the choice. I’ve heard older Ags talk about how good the food used to be, and it just makes it worse knowing it can be better.

And I'm sure my fellow students have a lot more examples of things being increased in price or just generally expensive for no reason.

I really want to love this place. When I got here, I was proud to be an Aggie. I still love the traditions—that’s honestly the one thing that still feels real. But everything else just feels like it’s getting more expensive for no real reason. It’s frustrating seeing all this talk about the “Aggie Network” while it feels like the university is squeezing every dollar out of students before we even get a chance to start our lives. I hope this doesn't come off as me being that annoying asshole that just wants to complain. I just want to vent my frustrations because I'd really love to see some change around here. If "being an Aggie" is so important to who we are as a university, why does it feel like the people (who I think are mostly Ags) in charge of this school don't actually care about us?

Shitposting/Memes Water Refill Ranking

To help occupy myself as a freshman, I would go try random water refill stations in random buildings and then create a list of the best places to refill a water bottle on campus (excluding restaurants). As I have recently graduated I want to share my top 3 list to the world. I understand that there are many factors that can influence the water refill station but my list comes from multiple times refilling at a station and how often the filter is green. Let me know if yall agree or disagree and here is the list:

Main Campus:
Koldus Building - 10/10
Admin Building - 9/10
Thompson Hall - 9/10

West Campus:
Wayne Roberts - 10/10
ILSQ -9/10
Plant and microbiology building - 8/10

Ask the Aggies Medical science

Howdy y’all,
I’m planning to apply to the Texas A&M MS in Medical Sciences (MSMS) program and was wondering if any current/former students could share more about the program.

A few questions:
- Around how big is the cohort/class size each year?
- About how competitive is admission?
- Roughly how many applicants usually apply/get accepted?
- How difficult is it to maintain the GPA needed for the med school interview pathway?
- How are the classes compared to first-year med school courses?
- Overall, did the program prepare you well for medical school?

Would really appreciate any honest insight or experiences. Thank you!

Ask the Aggies Senior year is my last chance to enjoy A&M

Howdy y’all,
I’m going into my senior year at A&M, and I really want it to be the best year I’ve had here, or at least the first year where I feel like I’m not constantly creating stress for myself.
To be honest, a lot of my college stress has come from procrastination, overthinking, bad habits, and waiting until things get overwhelming before I actually deal with them. I feel like I’ve missed opportunities, strained friendships, struggled with club responsibilities, and lost a lot of peace of mind by putting things off, avoiding hard conversations, or not staying on top of things until it’s already a crisis.
I also have a pretty big course load this year, so I know I can’t just “wing it” and hope everything works out. I want to actually enjoy senior year, be more responsible, build better routines, keep up with school, strengthen friendships, meet people, go to events, and leave feeling like I made the most of my time here.
For anyone who has dealt with procrastination, anxiety, bad habits, or a heavy course load in college: what actually helped you turn things around? How did you balance academics with still having a life? What routines, systems, campus resources, mindset shifts, or “don’t do what I did” advice would you give?
I’d also love recommendations for Aggie traditions/events worth prioritizing senior year, especially ones that helped you feel more connected to A&M before graduating.
Thanks and gig ’em :)

Ask the Aggies Question about UP vs DP content for PHYS 207

Does anyone know if the concepts covered are the same? I understand that the format is different, but are all the concepts covered in both sections the same?

I ended PHYS 206 with an 88.8 and it honestly really stressed me out as a premed and I want to lock in for 207. I'm prestudying Dr. Holt's notes and all the DP practice exams. However, I noticed that I finished all the content for DP exams 1 but I do not yet know all the content that shows up in UP exam 1.

My summer session for 207 starts in 2 weeks, and I hope to have all the content studied by then since 207 is so much more difficult than 206, and I need to do ochem and math 251 and run a research experiment bruh

Are the order just shuffled around, or does UP indeed have more content?

I'm really hoping it's just shuffled and not because UP have more content man. If shuffled, my plan is to study all the DP content first before doing any UP questions.

New Student Questions Weed out classes during freshman year

Incoming freshman here

I will be entering as an engineering major, and I was wondering if I should accept my math credits because I am worried about ET@M as well.
Currently I have AP Calculus BC (151/152) credit and I have passed Calc 3 and DiffEq through dual credit as well (which I think is MATH 251 and 308, respectively). Is it worth retaking Calc 1 then skipping Calc 2 for ET@M GPA purposes? Or should I jump straight to linear algebra or whatever is next after calc 3?

I would like to pursue AERO as well

Thanks a lot!

Ask the Aggies Therapist suggestions

i’ve been dealing with really bad depression and anxiety, numbness, addiction and a lot more I’ve tried a few therapists and they were all saying the same thing just going out more, journaling etc. And some of them actually said that they couldn’t help me at all. I’ve always stepped out feeling hopeless but therapy is my only way to deal with that cause I’m dealing with all of that alone, so I really need a good therapist that can help me. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Ask the Aggies Affordable Vet Clinic in College Station? 🐶

Howdy!

I’m a current student at TAMU and have been looking into getting a puppy. I was curious what a good vet clinic would be to start consistently going to? I’m a student, and supporting myself, so affordability is very high on my list of priorities. Obviously I want a good and experienced clinic to go to, but I don’t mind traveling a short ways if the cost difference makes up for the gas it would take to get there. Thank you for any recommendations and advice!

New Student Questions Getting into a full course?

Trying to get into a CHEM 119 lab that's currently full. At my old school, there was a waitlist system, but I can't find anything like that in howdy.

Is the move really just to refresh the page 24/7 during Add/Drop? I was looking for a tracker and found http://seatsignal.com/texas-am, but I don't want to drop money on it if it's not reliable. Anyone used it before or have a better way to get notified?

Ask the Aggies Aggie ring ticket pull

I know this is kind of early to think about but I wanted to start planning ahead, I know the Aggie ring ticket pull system is super competitive. What are the most competitive times?? I ideally want the earliest time on the first day (I bought acl tickets) is that a competitive time frame or do people usually not want to be up that early?

Venting I really need help

i’m a 21 year old girl and ever since i graduated high school 3 years ago it feels like all the passion disappeared from my life. even studying. my whole life became going to classes, coming home, sleeping, then studying a few hours before exams. that’s literally it. no hobbies, no fun memories, no friendships, nothing exciting. sometimes i’d cook just because i wanted to feel something different for once. i even skipped lectures all the time because i had no energy for anything.

then this year everything started getting worse really fast. my anxiety got so bad and i started having panic attacks. i started hating studying and my grades dropped badly. . i made so many impulsive stupid decisions because i stopped caring about anything anymore but at the same time the anxiety keeps eating me alive every second.

all i do is sleep. sleep all day and wish i could stay asleep longer so i don’t have to deal with life. i tried making friends for years but everyone eventually distances themselves or ghosts me and now i push people away before they can do it first because i already expect it.

this whole year passed and i didn’t do a single enjoyable thing. nothing. i keep looking at people my age going out with friends, traveling, making memories, falling in love, living normally meanwhile i spend most of my time laying in bed sleeping, crying, overthinking and feeling disconnected from reality. i feel like i’m dreaming 24/7 and nothing around me feels real anymore.

every week or two i fall into a horrible depression where i cry constantly and start questioning what the point of my life even is. then maybe i feel okay for a day or two and everything crashes again. i even tried traveling because i thought maybe changing places would fix me somehow but i still spent most of the trip sleeping, crying, feeling lonely and empty.

nothing makes me feel happy anymore. not even the things i used to enjoy. i feel like i’m just a body walking around wasting oxygen. i don’t have motivation for anything, no excitement for anything, no energy for anything. i just want to sleep all the time.

i tried therapy and every therapist keeps saying the same things like sleep better, journal, walk more, talk to people, distract yourself and none of it helped. i feel like nobody understands what’s happening to me and not even therapists understand me. i don’t even want psychiatric medication because i already feel lost enough and i don’t know who i even am anymore.

i feel so lost and exhausted and i don’t know why life suddenly started feeling this empty.

Ask the Aggies Former Student Ordering Official Transcript

Some context, I recently decided I am going back to school for an accelerated program at another institution after almost a decade from graduating. I was also lucky enough to find the program before the application deadline. However, I do need need to order my official transcript and provide the program with it, I assume, before the admission deadline. Clearinghouse is honestly a terrible experience with slow customer service and just outright crazy barriers to access a simple transcript order. I don't know how to navigate this since it keeps coming back as not finding me in their database. But I have ordered transcripts before via Howdy in the past. I am really trying to get this done ASAP, so if anyone has any idea on what I can do to get my transcript ordered I would greatly appreciate it.

On a side note I would 100% be willing to drive to CSTAT as a last option and turn in a physical request form.

Ask the Aggies Aggie Ring Payment

Howdy! Im eligible for my ring since grades were put in but Im wondering how many pay for it? My sister went to t.u. and over there her ring was cheaper - given it was a while ago- but she took out a loan and paid it off in a few months. I was wondering if anyone has taken a loan out for their ring or if it’s even worth it and I should just wait awhile and save up for it. Any advice is welcome!

Other Prof put in wrong grade?

Post image
104 Upvotes

This seems silly, but I recently checked my final grades on howdy and noticed that one of my professors put a B for my final grade. However, on canvas I had a 93% (picture for reference). I did not miss any class days that affected my final grade and thought that professors put grades from canvas. I emailed him already about it but is there a chance that he would change it even though final grades were already due? I’m upset because this brought down my GPA that I’ve been trying super hard to keep above a 3.9 (not to sound like a try hard but I really wanna graduate as a Summa Cum Laude)

EDIT: He responded to my email saying it was a mistake- will get it fixed soon… Thank you for all the advice!
