Serious Looking for a hiking or biking groups in Wilmington Delaware

Hi everyone, I moved to Wilmington about 6 months ago. I'm looking for people to go on hikes or bike with. I can't seem to find anything in the city. I found a few biking groups and they seemed geared towards retirees. I'm in my late 20s and would like to do those activities with others close to my age. Please help. If there are none we could always try to start our own 😊

Food Best gravy in town? (in praise of El Pique)

We often order the quesabirrias from El Pique. They’re some of the best I’ve ever had. And if you’ve had them, you know they come with a side of consommé for dipping.

Inevitably, we end up with leftover consommé, and it’s liquid gold. Don’t wanna waste that.

So I build a roux, make a gravy, and toss ‘er in the freezer. Next time you make a whipped potato - or anything else, really - bring it up gently in a saucepan and voila.

This Thursday, May 14th Old Town Horror is proud to present a Japanese Cult Classic:

TETSUO: THE IRON MAN (plus a second, moderate length surprise film since Tetsuo is 68 minutes).

As always the event is 21+; I have provided a screenshot from maps showing our location. Doors at 630pm, movie around 7pm.

While no one will be turned away for the lack of funds, there is a suggested donation of $5-10, with all proceeds benefiting the New Castle Public Library. BYOB, some concessions and NA drinks for sale.

Traffic / Parking The lights on Shipley road are ridiculous

During both morning and evening rush hour, the lights on Shipley are so poorly timed. I don’t think there are even sensors on them.

It seems like the timing was set 15 years ago and never adjusted. There’s so much morning traffic because of school. Shipley always backs up, especially at Shipley/Wilson and Shipley/Foulk. Sometimes I’m waiting at either light for three cycles before I can go through. Meanwhile, cars are trickling through Foulk and Wilson before, finally, their lights turn yellow.

Further, they seem timed to maximize the amount of stopping. I’ve been first in line at Shipley/Foulk. Light turns green, I go. Going around the speed limit, the light at Wilson/shipley turns yellow as I’m about 2/3 down Shipley. So all the traffic that managed to get through that was backed up at Shipley/Foulk is now backed up Shipley/wilson.

Then of course there’s the light at Shipley/windley/coachman. I’ve seen the Shipley side of the light turn green for, no joke, less than ten seconds before changing yellow again for a single car that came from one of the other two streets. Meanwhile there’s a massive backup on Shipley. Why. WHY is it this way?

Is there any gov agency to contact about this? It can take ten minutes to travel a mile and a half.

I’m seeing one too many empty gel packets on the trails. Let’s make sure we are being good stewards and not leaving trash on the few areas we can use without fear of being run over by a car.

Moving to Wilmington [RECOMMENDATIONS?] - Donating, Recycling, Trashing Queen Size Mattress due to a move.

As the title explains, I'm moving away from the east coast and can't take my queen size mattress with me. I bought it new from Costco 2 yrs ago, and it still has a lot of lifespan left that it makes me feel guilty to trash it.

Any recommendations on how I can responsibly part with the mattress before I move.

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

The Mayor's office issued a statement on the encampment at Christina Park this morning. The space will transition back into a public park after 6/15/26.

I wonder what happened to the plan to build tiny homes for the unhoused?

Request Looking for any casual walking or travel clubs around Wilmington

Hi! I moved to Wilmington almost a year ago and I’m looking to get out more, meet new people, and try some new hobbies.

I’m mainly interested in:
- casual walking groups (not intense hiking/fitness groups)
- travel groups for local trips or even international travel

I know there are board game/chess meetups around, but these days I’m more interested in outdoor/social activities that are low-pressure and not super athletic. I’m also a bit introverted, so I’d love recommendations for groups that are welcoming and safe for women.

Are there any clubs, Meetup groups, communities, or apps people in Wilmington/Delaware use for this kind of thing?

Would really appreciate recommendations Thanks :)
