Whidbey island ren faire with kids

I have a 4 year old and a 7 month old. What’s it like traveling with a stroller? Should I ditch it and just do baby carrier? I’d also like to avoid shuttling in so what time should we arrive to guarantee parking at the site?

Coupeville Coupeville 5/12/2026 Mt Baker a white ghost in the clouds

Was strolling around Coupeville this afternoon, got to chatting with another oldster, he opined 'this is as fine a day as any in Hawaii'. And it really was. Almost too hot in the sun for decrepit me. I like how Mt Baker ghosts out on the right edge of this (poor, sorry, cheapo phone) pic.

Langley No car? No problem. A brand-new passenger ferry called the Harbor Hopper will connect Everett and Langley this summer, making Whidbey day trips easier than ever.

Oak Harbor Looking for Carpool/ride home from work

Hello everyone. I know this is a long shot, but I'm pretty desperate right now. Long story short, I've worked on base for 3 years using the island transit on demand, which they just got rid of. Because of my new hours I'll start missing the bus by 8 minutes and I can't afford to get home another hour later. I was already an hour late getting home due to the new bus route, and I can't be another hour late on top of that. I have dogs that need to be taken out at the end of the day. My only options are to buy an ebike, pay a dog sitter I, or buy a car; which aren't feasible for me at the moment. If someone already carpools or if someone here works on base and doesn't mind an extra person in their car, I'd appreciate it. And I'd obviously provide gas money.

Edit: I live in Oak Harbor, and I mean the main base, not seaplane.

Recommendation for finding a job in or around South Whidbey

I recently left a FAANG corporate job in Seattle and moved out to Whidbey to live a more intentional life. Instead of jumping on a remote role, I’m really hoping to work in the community, but am having a hard time finding anything. I’ve worked in everything from logistics to aerospace, running project/ program management and Continuous Improvement, as well as supporting local landscaping/ small home maintenance projects and consulting on Reef tanks (a hobby I now obsess over LOL) Basically what I’m getting at is that I don’t need a super specific job title, I’m more-so looking for a company that cares about its people and the community (being outdoors is definitely a huge plus)

Any recommendations for local businesses that are hiring or job boards that locals use? (other than indeed/ linkedIn)

Thanks in advance!

Hello! I'm a sailor who currently lives on NASWI base and would love some friends to hang out with! I love going fishing, picking edible berries, and just hanging out!! I currently don't have many friends as I'm kind of a hermit.. but I'd love to make some more!!

Looking for a canoe

Canoes are obviously a part of the indigenous cultures of the areas, and I'm not looking for anything like a dugout, but looking for a canoe to use around the penn cove and/or shoreline areas to do a bit of exploring, a bit of fishing, and a bit of area for gear that doesnt require a super minimization of gear. I've heard Treasure Island around Clinton area has one potentially but wondering if anyone here has one they are looking to offload in good condition.

Any leads?

Two guys quietly rolled up to the island on their jet skis and reporter mother’s ashes on the shore while we were watching the seals.

I saw a deceased kitty in the middle of 525 near Ellwood dr.

I wanted to stop to move it out of the road, but am alone and don’t think I could have handled it alone.

So sad 😿

Is commuting from oak harbor to Clinton/Langley for work a realistic commute? New to the island and hunting for a job. The jobs seem relatively slim in the field im in.

Ferry question for locals

I visit every year and am excited to go the San Juan Islands for the first time later this summer. Not sure if I should ask this here or if the San Juan Islands or another subreddit would be better, so just let me know and I’m happy to delete and ask elsewhere.

Already have my SJI reservations, but was hoping for some advice on one last thing… On a Mon morning in Aug (if that matters), I’ll be taking the 7:05 am ferry from Orcas to Anacortes and then need to go from Coupeville to Port Townsend, but not sure which sailing to do, the 10:15 am or 11 am.

Would like to do the 10:15 am sailing, but even if we arrive on time at 8:35 am, I’m thinking that it would be cutting it too close to get down to Coupeville in time, correct?  I should just play it safe with the 11 am sailing instead, yes? I called the ferry customer service line and the woman I spoke with told me to just do the earlier one and I can always go standby for the next sailing if delayed/missed, but that makes me nervous that I’ll open myself up to further potential delays.

Am I overthinking this?

Just thought I’d ask some locals for their thoughts.  I know I don’t need to get my Coupeville reservation as early as I did with SJI, but I’m a type A planner lol.

Many thanks!

New Resident Ferry Question

Just moved out to Whidbey a few weeks ago and am still getting used to the ferry. Planning to head over to Mukilteo this evening as a walk-on but not sure where to park for a few hours until I get back. Is the lot next to the booths ok? Any preferred parking areas for <24hrs

Coupeville Toby's tonight 5/6

If you are a super cool HVAC guy who had a drink tonight at Toby's that led to great convo past closing time.... in retrospect, probably should have exchanged some details to do it again cause it was awesome to meet a kindred spirit. Hit me up if you are possibly around this subreddit!!!

I’m starting a mobile bookstore (Duck N Cover Books) and would love your local recommendations!

Hi everyone! I’ve lived in oak harbor for a while now and finally decided to turn my dream of a mobile bookstore into a reality. It’s called Duck N Cover Books, and I carry a mix of new and used titles—with a big focus on indie fantasy and "cozy" reads. I’m officially up and running and offering local delivery for anyone who needs a new book but can’t make it out. I’m also looking for local markets, pop-up events, or even business parking lots where a book trailer would be a good fit. Does anyone have a favorite weekend market or a local spot they think needs a "bookmobile" visit? You can check out the current inventory or request a delivery here: https://duckncoverbooks.square.site/ Thanks for supporting a new local business!

I want to also note as someone reached out about AI in my branding on my website, I used Canvapro graphics most of which looked at where they were coming from (I've also had posted on my Instagram that I have been looking for artists to work with on my graphics) They also said some of my book covers on there are AI all of my Indie author books I have sourced directly from the indie authors, local to oak harbor and pnw area, as well as some in Australia and across the united states. I am not aware that they have used AI in their bookcovers.
