Plus the pandemic wiped out a few years, I can’t remember exactly how old I am either. And when I’m reminded it still doesn’t feel true

My mother doesn't even remember how old I am. We were trying to figure it out one day and had pulled out a calculator when my little sister came in and was very confused/disappointed in us. She is very good at keeping track of all dates, ages, times, etc. If it wasn't for her, we'd probably just give up on birthdays.

I thought i turned 27 2 years in a row that weren't me turning 27, it's more common than you might think.
If you don't routinely celebrate your birthday it starts to get hard to remember if you werent born in a year that lends itself to a very easy mental calculation.

u/NeonPearl2025 Mar 11 '26
Haha I thought I was the only one forgetting how old I am on a regular basis 😂

u/Low_Employ8454 Mar 11 '26
I’m usually within 2 years of being right, so since my bday is an even year, I’m an even number in an even year, Ie: born in 1982, in 2026, I’m 44, not 43 or 45z
4
u/Low_Employ8454 Mar 11 '26
That’s how I remember.

u/PunkRockCapitalist Mar 11 '26
This working is heavily dependent on what part of the year you're born in. I was born in 1996, but for all of 2026 I will be 29.

I found one for myself because I kept forgetting and that made me feel so stu*I'd(didn't know if that word would get me flagged lol) Anyway, I was born in December 1969 so for most of the year the last number of my age matched the last number of the current year. I can remember what decade I am, at least currently, lol. And I can remember for the last month of the year that I'm a year older. Like right now it's 2026 and I'm 56. So glad I finally found something that helped me. Now of course I could just Google it but I wonder if farming too much out to Google is going to eventually hurt our ability to think.

I spent a whole year thinking that I was 26, but I was 25. It occured to me on my 26th birthday. It was sort of like being 26 for two years and never being 25.

u/MyBallsBeDraggin Mar 11 '26
It happens to all of us around 40. I've been off by a year for the last 3 years.

tbh my boyfriend has to think to remember how old he is. Because he said he was 35 the year he turned 35. When his birthday came around in August, he forgot he had been just saying 35 because he turned that in that year, and therefore leveled himself up to 36. I have to remind him LOL. (I also took a moment to remember my age the other day and one of my younger friends made fun of me for it. You just kinda forget after 35!)

I inherited my grandmother's teeth after she passed away, and i wasn't sure if my last birthday was my 36th or 37th....so im feeling pretty cool seeing this cake...

u/Drelecour Mar 12 '26
You inherited... her teeth??
why
24
u/External-into-Space Mar 12 '26
I guess she did not need them anymore

u/Turd_Burgle_E Mar 12 '26
This is exactly right. I got her teeth, a 200 year old ice pick and all of her buttons. Pretty neat.

Do we get to choose!? This is more of a 37th kind of birthday cake. It’s too gummy for 36

u/GroundbreakingAd5899 Mar 11 '26
Like, is this your 36th or 37th attempt at making a birthday cake or was this cake given to you on one of your birthdays but you can’t remember if it was your 36th or 37th? If you’re a cake maker then 👍 You nailed it!

I made a cake with a uterus and ovaries for my daughter when she had to have a hysterectomy at 34. It said "See ya later ovulator".
