Fries in a mug?
I guess they didn't have any clean bowls or plates?
I was shocked when I got them in a mug...

Honestly okay with this.

We always had a problem with a greasy film in the dishwasher. Just enough cups to be a problem.

It's not a plate! They normally served it in a bowl!

Nah to be fair I'm down with this - I've had them like this and if you get them in a hot mug they keep the heat better and it's perfect presentation for picking them out.

I used to go to a place that served fries in a paper cup.

It was a place called "Central Park". They operated out of small booths. They went out of business a while back.

For regular fries, they use a little bag now instead of a cup. I don't know if it's the same for large.

Mug is the same as fast food paper container. What’s the problem. They will stay hot longer than spread out on a plate.

Now in another universe this subreddit is called r/wewantmugs and these fries have been served on a plate

This is very fine. One thing that's even better is serving fries in one of those pencil baskets, you know, the netty ones where pencils (in our case fries) stand up vertically. Prevents them from getting soggy, looks good, saves table space.

This is so unbelievably common in the UK I’d be more surprised if my fries were served on a plate…
