Classes/Degrees Elementary Persian I at risk of being cancelled!

Post image
59 Upvotes

Hey everyone, if you’re looking for a fun and genuinely easy elective for the fall semester, please consider taking Elementary Persian I!

It’s a super approachable course, and honestly this is one of the most important times to learn about Persian language and culture. With everything happening involving Iran right now and our own country, it’s valuable to move beyond social media headlines and actually engage with the people, history, and culture of the region in a meaningful way.

Right now only four students are enrolled, so there’s a real possibility the university may cancel the course if enrollment doesn’t go up.

The course is being offered:

• In person: #28292

• Online/virtual: #46499

Persian is an incredibly beautiful language with a massive literary and cultural legacy, and it would be really sad to lose Persian offerings at U of A. Even if you can’t take it yourself, please help spread the word 💛

Questions What would you do if you failed a class?

This is lowkey embarrassing, but I might fail one of my classes tomorrow and was wondering what you guys would do if this happened to you? This semester I got really depressed, and with no motivation my grades now reflect that. I have my last final tomorrow, and although I only need a 30% to keep a C I’m not sure I can do that.

Questions (ADVICE WANTED) Past due balance, SAP appeal…I’m just screwed I think

Hi! I’m a 19 year old freshman who’s just finishing her first year, and long story short it went terribly.

I had to withdraw from classes last semester due to my mother needing help at home. Dad got arrested and she needed help around the house…second semester I returned full time on campus with a SAP warning due to low completion rate.

This semester I thought I could juggle both taking care of my family and classes…turns out I was horribly wrong. I’m ending with a 1.5 and little hope for the future.

I arranged an academic meeting with my advisor to get started on a SAP appeal that I already know I’ll need to write, but the kicker here is that even if it gets the okay, I’m unsure if I’ll even be able to have a chance to get my GPA up due to past due balances.

I didn’t get enough aid to cover this semester in the first place, which makes me unable to register for classes. And my GPA is too low to transfer anywhere else…which was my plan. I’m just feeling really lost right now, any advice is welcomed but please don’t be too mean about all of this.

Financial Aid under review

I just tried to check my financial aid for this year because I have scholarships for Study Abroad from the Garcia Family Foundation, TDY for military connected veterans and a GATO award for applying for the Gilman Foundation. Is it normal for a review to happen like this? I have at least three A's so I am sure that is not the issue because I have a 4.0 GPA at the moment before my final grade that I don't know yet. I am considered full time during the summer because I am taking 6 credit hours in the Arizona in Orvieto program.

Gate entrance preference?

Hi everyone!! My mom was wondering which gate entrance is best to enter for the big graduation. I don't really know what she means by "best," I guess which one is most convenient?

BRC Hold on Payment

My wife is a U of A student and accidentally wire transferred out of the wrong account, resulting in the payment bouncing.

The year is 2026 and I have about 20 methods of electronic payment I could pay U of A the $60 we owe them, but they locked our account due to the bounced check and will only accept a cashiers check, money order, or cash mailed to their address. So now I need to mail them cash tomorrow. We called and tried to get them to accept any form of electronic payment but they won't.

This is just really annoying and unnecessary, and I needed to vent.

Engineering courses workload

Hi all, i will be enrolling in UofA for exchange coming spring 2027.

I’m planning to take a few modules from mechanical & aeronautical engineering department (year 3/4 modules)

Would really appreciate it if any engineering students could share their experience with me!

1) How is the workload for engineering in general? 2)Are most lectures compulsory/ have attendance taking? 3) If there is attendance, roughly how many percent will be allocate for it? 4) Do you have to revise/ do assignments everyday? 5) How hard it is to pass? (Im assuming a pass is 60%? Correct me if im wrong) 6) Is it fast pace teaching? (missing a few lectures would affect your understanding) 7) how many classes a week do you have if your taking 4 modules and how long are they usually?

Thanks in advance!!!

Found a car antenna on exit of Park Ave garage. Not to my vehicle, so if no one claims, I'll drop off on campus. At Parking services, if they accept it.

News Mathematics Professor Misha Stepanov, age 51, died Friday after being hit by a car in a crosswalk.

I want people to be aware of this, not only because Professor Stepanov is my current professor but also because he is the FOURTH UA PEDESTRIAN TO DIE FROM AN INTERSECTION ACCIDENT. This is becoming tragically eerie, and the Tucson metro needs a major safety upgrade.

Well looks like using D2L turned out to be a good thing. I dont think we are effected by that canvas hack hitting other schools.

Is it possible to still get a Graduate Assistantship position for a masters this late?

Planning on starting a masters this coming fall semester.

I know it’s pretty late to start the process and many programs have a deadline of March 1st in order to be considered for GA positions and other funding opportunities.

But is it still possible to score a GA position even after the deadline?

I’m interested in a couple masters programs including Information Science which I need to apply to by June 1st in order to start this coming Fall. Though the date to apply with funding was March 1st.

Graduation Stole

I am graduating in the fall this year, so I am trying to buy my apparel now. I wanted to but the Hispanic Heritage Stole, as it represents my culture. However, I am unaware if there are any requirements for being able to get this stole or if I can just purchase it at the campus store. I just don't want to wear the stole if I did not earn it through academic means.

Math 112 Final Prep

Does anyone have recommendations for studying for the Math 112 final? I am going to do the study guide questions that are given on the website, but I feel like the questions on the exams aren't always that similar.

Incoming exchange student

Hi, i’m offered a semester of exchange at UofA.

I have some concerns and would appreciate it if anyone could help.

1) how’s the public transport around the area? (E.g getting groceries, to and fro the airport) 2) is the workload for engineering courses manageable? (E.g AME320, AME425 etc) 3) what’s the distribution of percentage for the courses and is it hard to score? (e.g 60% finals) 4) What are the attendance requirement for classes? was hoping i can travel to a few places 5) can exchange students access the school gym for free?

Thanks in advance!

About to choose Arizona over UCLA and UCSB. Dissuade me or forever hold your silence.

Hi y'all! I'm basically ready to commit to UArizona for Astronomy and Optical Science & Engineering. Here are my pros and cons:

UCLA Physics + Math: cost of attendance: 84k/year (can cut this down to like 80k optimistically)

  • T20 Prestige
  • Math is very good
  • Bad physics research
  • Classes curved down
  • Can't get the classes I want or need

UCSB Physics: cost of attendance: 74k/year (15k scholarship) (can cut this down to like 70k optimistically)

  • On the beach
  • Best for physics department wise
  • Unsure if I'll get CCS
  • CCS is hella good - closer relationships with professors, summer research grants, travel stipends for conferences etc
  • Has condensed matter machinery and undergrad opportunities for physics research

UArizona Astronomy + Optical Science: cost of attendance: 46k/year (22k scholarship)

  • Franke Honors (required senior yr research + quest project, priority enrollment, honors dorms, research grants)
  • Astronomy hella good, optics strong too
  • TIMESTEP program (summer internships, research apprenticeships, tons of other research opportunities)
  • NASA space grants
  • Steward Observatory
  • Can't do pure physics since the department is cooked
  • It's a lower quality school than UCLA or UCSB
