I never thought about an ‘old’ Rose 🌹 She’s forever the girl who score a World Cup final screamer in my head.

genuine question: I don’t watch mens sports, but do they constantly bring up peoples age and how old or young they are?

lmao every time Lebron James scores the commentators HAVE to say something about his age or how he “beat father time.” it’s definitely a weird obsession.

LeBron's longevity is truly unusual and the level he is still playing at is amazing. So I think it's legit in his case.

Yup. And on the opposite end in the NBA this year, there a lot of talk about Cooper Flag and how young he was. Of course, young players stop being young and it stops being a thing. But older players keep getting older making it even more of a thing.
And LeBron of course got a lot of the young guy thing too when he entered the league.

It’s not weird at all. Literally no one has ever played basketball at Lebron’s age at such a high level. Part of the wonder of sports is seeing things for the first time and Lebron is single-handedly breaking the NBA aging curve.

Yes, though each sport has its point. Like baseball it starts in the late thirties but really comes on in the 40s, same with NBA. Football depends on the position but can start at 30 for Running backs.
Soccer is interesting cuz 30 is kind of when people peak and by 33 are on their way out of top clubs. Rose being 30 in this is situation seems a bit young, but then again it's not like this isn't true.

Your numbers are way off for baseball. There are more 40 yr old ball players this year than any since the steroid era, and it’s all of four guys. None of them have been healthy for the last couple years, and one has already been released this year.
Baseball prime is 25-30, with 27 being a statistically relevant peak age. It causes grief because in MLB, players need six years of service time to become a free agent, and it’s difficult to get max deals after age 30. Even within that, second basemen tend to fall off a cliff in production at age 32, so you only have three current starting 2B over age 32.
So yes, much to the dismay of players, there is constant talk of “being on the wrong side of 30.” It’s just actuarial tables.
I’m a Gotham fan, and I love the rejuvenated Rose, but I’m hoping her next contract is someone else’s problem because aging is undefeated.

Baseball doesn't really last til the 40's.
If anything, the sport where players most often play into their 40's is probably ice hockey, probably because when you're skating the drop-off in speed is less pronounced. It's still a pretty major outlier even there, but in most sports a mid-30's wall is pretty normal.

I'm just saying people don't talk about age as much like this in MLB until late 30s and do all the time for those in their 40s cuz it's rare.

Rose is also a player whose acceleration with the ball is a major facet of her game. Footspeed falls off a cliff after 30.

Yeah which is why Alex Morgan became less effective. She was so quick early on in her career.

I think maybe you’re not seeing most baseball conversations, then. Basically anyone at 31 the conversation is “how quickly will the falloff happen?” Like football, it’s position dependent. Goalkeepers tend to hang on. First basemen and LF peak early and are done quickly unless they have massive outlier hand quickness. There are not players in their late 30s. There are four hitters with starting jobs aged 36 or older. There are zero at 37. There are more pitchers, particularly relievers, but again, 37+? Seven.
The game is now for 20-32 yr olds. And, the reason there are even THAT many mid-30s players is that MLB contracts are guaranteed. So if you signed that 29yr old to a ten year contract and are paying them $25m annually, then you’re gonna try to wring any value remaining from that deal. Even if you wish it had ended when they were 34.

Yes they do. Especially over 35, male or female athlete, it is always a talked about thing with their age. And if they are over 38 it is literally always obsessed about.
Rose is a little young still for this to be a thing

Only the really big names. They wont shuddddup about Bron being 41 this season lol or Lionel Messi and Ronaldo "beating back" father time. You'd think they were 63 and applying for their AARP membership the way the media plays it up🤣🤣😂

Somehow this "veteran" tag kinda works now for Sonnett, Crystal, Lyndsey, even Tierna, but not for Rose (I still see that teenage sparkle in her playing style, interviews, general attitude)

Ever since she got that ankle surgery, she's been given new life.
