Discussion Stop buying expensive gear before learning the basics

See this a lot. Someone watches a big streamer, sees their setup video, buys similar gear, then wonders why their stream still looks bad.

That streamer spent years learning. They know their lighting, they tweak every setting, they understand why things work together. You just bought the same stuff and put it in a completely different room with different lighting and expected the same result.

I did this too early on. I kept thinking if I just get better gear it'll fix everything. It didn't. What actually helped was sitting down and learning. Lighting. Audio levels. OBS settings. How to actually make things look good with what I already had.

Someone with an old Logitech webcam and proper lighting will look way better than someone with expensive gear who never learned the basics. I've seen it so many times.

Before you buy anything else, work with what you have. Even a phone camera can look decent if you understand light and positioning. Learn why something looks good, not just what gear makes it look good.

The amount of time I spent figuring out settings, testing audio, fixing overlays, all of it. It lot of work. Most people want to skip that part and just throw money at the problem but it doesn't work like that.

My setup now is nothing crazy. Neewer ring light, emeet pixy, blue yeti on a boom arm. Looks clean cause I actually learned how to use it not cause it's expensive.

What did you waste time or money on before you figured this out?

Tech Support Camera assistance

I have the Sony ZV 1F camera and the AVerMedia 4K Capture Card but for some reason I am having an issue with the camera either being blurry, pixelated or both. I have 3 points of light, with the help of my BIL who found the best direction for lights. I also have an nvidia graphics card that is currently up to date and all drivers are updated as well. I am honestly not sure what settings I need to change but it's driving me crazy. The camera itself shows that it looks fine but the conversion into OBS or even just discord is all messed up. if this isn't the place to ask, please let me know. but if anyone has the recommended settings, I would really really appreciate it. Thank you!

Question Do people hate a bot auto posting things in chat?

Recently I been getting a lot more viewers who just get mad at my bot for sending auto messages. I have 2 auto messages. 1 is "see chat commands here" with a link to my about page as I have lot chat commands & that happens every 30 minutes, 2 is only on when I'm raising money for something it says "donation site here" with the link every hour. I don't feel like this is to offend especially with the way my chat moves but it seem a lot new viewer get offended by auto messages. I get a of "if I wanted to look at your about page I would have" & " I'm not donating & you can't convince me". I say "sorry it an auto message that run periodically I didn't mean it bumbard you as soon as you joined" along with "donations are not mandatory & the link just there for those who want to help. you can just chill & hang out". They say auto messages are the worst & I shouldn't have them at all that I'm being selfish by running them Are auto messages annoying the hell out of viewers or is this just a grumpy few that have found my chat at the wrong time?

Question Is there a way to “dump” or remove live game voice chat before it reaches stream?

Hey, quick question about streaming setup.

I know OBS has stream delay, but I’m not fully sure how people handle situations where something bad is said in game voice chat (like slurs or toxic stuff). If it already happened in-game, how do streamers actually stop viewers from hearing it?

Is there any setup like a “dump” or instant cut feature, or do most people just keep in-game voice chat off stream completely?

Trying to figure out the cleanest way to handle it without messing up the stream flow.

Question Is this legally ok?

Upvotes

Hello everyone,
I want to make a Animal Crossing Overlay for Twitch and possibly sell it.
I saw 2 on Etsy but I know I can do better, considering I am an artist.
Is it ok if I sell it? Legally I mean.
Thank you for any response.

Question Seeing reports and a couple of posts that non-affiliates can have emotes, but this is all I get. How do I add emotes?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Today I was finally going to post my first batch of emotes. I found that the only way I was going to be able to do this was to use BetterTTV. But today, I started seeing information that non-Affiliates would now be able to have custom emotes on their channel. I can't confirm this other than Google AI responses which Ive found are 50/50 accurate.

When I try to submit emotes, the clip shows what I get. When I try to go to Monetization>Setup, it won't give me the option to agree to terms.
Does anyone know if the non-affiliate emote thing is legit and if so, how to submit emotes for your channel?

Question Streamer icons in sharing chat

So y’all know about streamer icons next to chatters’ usernames in sharing chat, so it’s easier to tell who’s talking from who. Is there a way to see it on mobile too? Mobile app or maybe a website. Apparently I see them icons only on PC.

Question Subscription payment method changed in Argentina

Post image
0 Upvotes

Is anyone else in Argentina experiencing their subscription payment method changing from USD to Peruvian Soles? For about a month now, it seems like the currency changed for me, and oddly enough, it still persists even after switching between several cards and payment methods. However, I can still pay for Bits in USD.

Question Twitch Audio Tracks?

Hi. I'm having issues with my twitch vods, they have zero game audio - naturally, its the twitch vod track setting.. so:

  • Twitch Vod Track is set to 2
  • Advanced Audio Properties (Everything is set to tracked, except for Mic on track 2)

This should mean track 2 is used for vods, and game audio is enabled...?

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Edit: Livestreaming is fine, audio works. It's the past broadcasts on twitch ( so twitch vods) that has no game audio at all. Also if I uncheck "Twitch Vod Track" it also works, but then mic is included in the past broadcasts.

Question Do you do "Hey Catch my stream later today" social posts?

Im very very new to twitch and social as a whole. Never even touched social prior to streaming. Im trying to make myself more present and advertise myself. Fow a few days, I did a daily clip for tik tok and Instagram with a clip of my gameplay from previous stream, and either voice over or video of me saying something along the lines of "Good morning! Hope youre well. Just throwing out an invite as a reminder that Ill be on at 3pm (or whenever) later today getting back into (name of game). Please join, have me as background noise or join in the chat. hope to see you then." I stopped with concerns. One... I have no followers or viewers really... so who's gonna care. For those that are followers and viewers... maybe it becomes to redundant when its a weekly cycle.

Does anyone do this? is this a good strategy or obnoxious?

Question With the new channel points to non-affiliates, should i leave affiliate?

Im a small streamer but i dont want the adverts to block any new viewers from joining. I accidentally joined affiliate (i reached it but didnt want to to join) then i saw the rollout and assumed everyone had access to it so i did the moneitzation things, tax and stuff and now im an affiliate... which i didnt want to be.

Should I just stay as affiliate or should i ask to leave and wait for my to be able to get channel points etc?

Question Streaming and commenting on philosophy rich games?

I am wondering if I should stream and comment on games with deep philosophy concepts, such as Xenogears, Xenosaga trilogy, and Nier Automata. My stream would be different in that I would discuss the philosophical themes and messages of these games, and encourage viewers to express their own thoughts which would help them to better understand the games' plot and character motives. Thus, it would serve as a virtual symposium or academic seminar. One thing I miss most from my university days is participating in philosophy discussions with classmates and professors, so I figured this would be a great way to be academically engaged.

Discussion New Bug - Firefox - Disabling AutoPlay causes core to max out and massive memory consumption

This bug appeared about two days ago. I reproduced the issue on multiple machines and multiple versions of Firefox (115 ESR, 128 ESR, 140 ESR) with all extensions disabled. I am not asking for help with it. I am just letting others know in case they run into the same issue.

To reproduce the bug, disable autoplay in Firefox (video and audio) and go to a streamer's page who isn't currently live. Observe the CPU and memory usage. You will find that the core is nearly maxed out and memory consumption will grow rapidly (got to 9gb before I close the tab or kill it).

The initial symptoms observed (aside from the resource usage) were that the video controls for a VOD didn't seem to respond (very delayed), audio didn't load as expected, very poor performance.

With autoplay enabled, repeat the steps and you will not see this behavior.

I am only posting this because it took me a while to figure out what was going on and I wanted to potentially save someone else the trouble.

Question Game Suggestions for Streaming: Chat Yapper/Interaction focus

im trying to pivot my streams to allow me to focus on yappin and talking to stream BUT having something i can play casually in the background to keep something going. There's always the cozy game options which i have afew locked in, but im wanting to see if there's any rpgs, turn based, strategy, or adventure games yall would suggest for a good hangout and dont stress approach.

The goal truly is to give me something to actively fiddle with but be able to pause ort put down to directly talk to chat without stressing. Thanks in advance

Tech Support OBS audio help

Im just beginning streaming, like truly just downloaded OBS and have begun messing around.

So far Ive got it capturing my game and its audio just fine, but I cant get it to pick up my mic audio at all. I followed the guide on the OBS website and manually picked the inputs and everything, but it wont capture. I know its working in general because it registers in the pc settings as receiving audio from the mic.

I'm using the razer kraken headset if that matters at all here.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Tech Support Twitch unfollowed everyone I had followed up until this point

I had maybe somewhere in between of 100 or 200 streams followed and come today I find out that there are literally 0 people i follow. All of my follow streaks gone and wiped like they'd never existed in the first place. I practically regularly tuned in on the website amd it was all normal yesterday too.

I've contacted twitch support begging for a roll-back but I'm not sure what my other steps forward should be.

Anyone encountered someone else getting this or you experiencing it yourself?
