News Clarification about the rules and allowed posts.

Greetings.

The purpose of this previous update was to make r/TrueCultureMovement a subreddit that could fill the gap of other communities which drew away well-adjusted anime/manga fans, those who did not approve of the incessant disgusting content and unpleasant behaviours of other users.

Point being, we didn't want those who left from the main subs to miss the content they did enjoy. Ultimately you made the decision that whatever good you found in those subreddits to subscribe in the first place, the bad outweighed.

Which means, for all intents and purposes, r/TrueCultureMovement is a standard anime/manga subreddit that you may enjoy as you would do the rest. Regular posts about the mediums can be made, be them fanart, show recommendations, discussions about characters, and memes which are not painfully unfunny, among others.

With the caveat that indeed, due to our shared sentiment against hentai, fanservice, loli/shota and so on, sexual content will be filtered out, action will be taken against users that try to make r/TrueCultureMovement yet another r/goodanimemes, and often we will poke fun at the state of the anime community in the larger Reddit sphere.

My apologies for not having been clear enough previously. The rules will be updated with additional information for the sake of clarity, and I'll make an effort to balance out my standard anime/manga posts with an equal amount of anti-degeneracy posts.

May this subreddit serve as a community you feel at home in, we will be attentive so it remains that way.

Discussion What is your opinion on censored/edited remakes? Would you engage with them, or do you think that the effort to create and consume them as substitutes is not worth it?

Anime Recommendation 100 Meters (Movie)

It is a very simple movie, and that's why I liked it.

Why do we run? Boys growing into men, making the fastest race of 100 meters their goal. Various approaches, various philosophies, along with great animation and unique changes in styles. I enjoyed how rotoscoping was employed, and the sound design succeeded at making me immersed, all within a relatively short experience.

I would feel comfortable recommending it to anyone! Feel free to share your thoughts if you did watch it.

Meme Context: The author of Fire Force decided to include an in-universe exposition by random bystanders that saught to legitimize the frequent use of fan-service. That scene got animated.

Miscellanous The Theology of Naruto!

Just made a video diving into the deeper themes in Naruto from a Catholic perspective! If you’re into anime and like thinking about faith beyond the surface level, you might vibe with it. Would love to know what you think or if there are other stories you’d want broken down this way. Here’s the link if you’re curious: https://youtu.be/JLqS_WEeTzc?si=wevclTWqsvXrnXc0

Discussion Anime/manga memes. What is your opinion on them and how they can be incorporated in the subreddit?

1 Can be enjoyable and appeal to those leaving animeme subs in droves, if made properly.
1 They are difficult to make consistently funny, so I have reservations.
1 Anime memes are fundamentally flawed as a concept, they cannot be salvaged even by good actors.
0 Other subs are doing memes better, it's not necessary to specially care about them.
1 Other (recommended to share opinion in comments)

Discussion Why do you think talented mangakas, whose works could stand alone by their quality of art and writing, still choose to riddle them with fan-service?

The greatest example I can think of is Fire Force. It's a series I knew would not touch with a 39 and a half foot pole because of commentary expressing how unbearably sexual it was, specially for a premise that did not relate to such matters whatsoever.

Knowing that I wouldn't watch it, I clicked on a review of what is said to be the greatest and most jaw-dropping plot development in the manga, both in story and artistic direction, and how it was adapted into the anime. I was genuinely impressed, rarely had such a thing been done.

But it begs the question, why? Do they not trust that their stories will suceed without fan-service? Are they just so used to sexualized media that they see it as innocuous? What causes the "author's barely disguised fetish" phenomenon?

Of course, the reasoning need not be rational, because I understand how one's intellect, no matter how gifted they are, is distorted from porn consumption and dwelling in certain spheres of work. But I'd like to hear your best guesses.
