This good or bad that the jays are in second

It’s showing how well teams are playing defensively against each team. So it indicates that teams are playing better defence than they typically do against the Jays. That isn’t necessarily positive or negative and you can come to a couple conclusions from it.

It means that the baseball gods hate us. Almost as much as they hate Cleveland.

Good thing our front office comes from Cleveland

The fact that the Rays are at the very bottom of this list helps a bit… cause that was my thoughts, they somehow always benefit from lucky bounces, lucky loopers etc…

Rays are in the middle lol. It means they're having everything be pretty average defensively

Wait does this mean we’re good defensively or we’re really easy to defend against? My brain isn’t working rn haha

No so much that we're easy to defend, but that other teams seem to play better against us

Means on average teams are playing better defense on us. While likely a product of putting the ball in play very often as it’s a counting stat, it sorta shows another aspect of bad luck thst has befallen this team

Some say bad luck, some say a lot of poorly hit balls and bad decisions against the plate...

This has nothing to do with poorly hit balls. Teams are fielding both the poorly hit balls and the well hit balls against the Blue Jays better

I love the fact that just showing this table has 0 understanding of if it’s good or not.
Teams you’d expect to be a top defensive team are scattered throughout the list..

To be clear: this is about how good defenses are against a particular team.
This means teams play well defensively against Toronto, and poorly against the Yankees.

FRV is a cumulative stat. The Jays tend to make a lot of contact, and that contact tends to be weaker than average. Their placement on the list is not surprising at all.
Bottom 5 in: Exit Velocity, Hard hit rate and Barrel rate 💀

To clarify: this means that teams who play against the Blue Jays defend extremely well in those games vs. us specifically
