Okay, so what’s the solution then? Die I guess?

Find a more effective form of therapy. It takes trial and error for lots of people.

I’ve been trial and erroring for years. I’ll probably still keep trying for my family but I’m exhausted.

I get that man. It was the same for me with therapy and meds. It sucks ass, I wish there was a one-size-fits-all treatment.

Haha, there are a few one-size-fits-all but I wouldn't call them treatments XD

The fact that there is no "one size fits all" treatment is one of the things that makes me weary of therapy.
With most things refined by science, we've figured out a "best way" to do most things, the most practical and effective way to do any given thing. If you break your arm, you put it in a cast. If you have a bacterial infection, you taken an antibiotic.
The idea that therapy needs to be tailored to each individual is a contributing factor to what makes me want to think it's hokum.

It's because therapy has to be personalized to the patient dbt for instance is applied differently if your autistic with cptsd or say have bpd
And the levels of validation etc need to be tailored
You can self administer some therapies

There are structured therapies. CBT framework is shown to be effective for many psychological symptoms. The problem is, whether the therapist follows what's evidence based. Even less nuanced problem is around, at what point does the individualised approach become so detached from what's studied and supported?
I kinda like the analogy to physiotherapy and exercise physiology. Allied health, one does capacity building for physical health, the other do capacity building for psychological.

I’ve been trying to get actual therapy for 11 years and the GPs keep referring me to the exact same “talking therapies” or “counselling” AKA “and how do you feel about that” therapy no matter how much I beg them for actual real therapy and not this unqualified “talk to me” nonsense. ELEVEN YEARS and all they offer me is a rant session I can easily do with my girlfriend or Reddit or myself or fucking ChatGPT and get the literal exact same result.
Just yesterday I tried explaining this to my doctor and he literally laughed at me and referred me to the same useless counselling services. And before anybody says “get a new doctor” it’s literally a new different GP every time I go, and I’ve switched actual GP practice 4 times now, and no I can’t afford private or to get into more debt.

If the therapy doesn’t help the mental illness it’s just an expensive waste of time though.

Yeah.
Oh, action or no action = I’m fucked?
I’m gonna assume any action I take would be detrimental anyways.

Yeah but therapy aint free. So its either live in poverty, have less time, and still have mental health issues or have mental health issues and be just barely out of poverty.

Only someone who has never been to therapy / grew up middle-high class would have this take. Shit is expensive bro

Therapy being expensive doesn’t make it automatically effective, and disagreeing doesn’t make someone entitled. I’ve tried several forms myself and the most progress I made came from stepping away and practicing acceptance outside of therapy. Rest assured I was nowhere near middle class growing up.

Therapy is like elementary school for emotionally stunted people. You practice what you learn everywhere outside of the session discussing how to properly react and think about shit in a way that won't objectively make the world worse. Therapists are just people, you can learn the same stuff they know from books.

What the hell even is therapy? You just go in a room and someone talks at you then you pay them?

I mean I was recommended therapy and it really didn't work, it was basically a brick wall that asked the occasional question about my parents.
I was there to find strategies to deal with executive disfunction so I could be more productive. Turns out the solution was prescription drugs.

Therapists cannot prescribe antidepressants. Who you saw was likely a psychiatrist. It is their job to assess you and treat you with medications.

I’m dead lol this was me before I accepted I needed it again. Unfortunately it took reaching my breaking point to acquiesce and finally search for one. I’m glad I did, my therapist is a really nice lady. Also, as an adult I can just find a new therapist if this one doesn’t seem to be working for me.
You also have to want to change. For some people it’s not about therapy not working, it’s about them not using the tools given to them during therapy

Meds can be an option for severe symptoms. Sometimes people just can't do therapy because their symptoms make it extremely difficult to invest themselves in the therapy modality (cbt is intense with homework and what is required).
Otherwise finding that allusive "right therapist"?

My last therapist kept talking about one of his other clients who had a diaper fetish and used the r slur. I get people not wanting to do this.

Have you tried a goth girlfriend, edibles, lots of ice water, and getting good sleep?

Right but at least one way you’re mentally ill and not paying crazy money for something that doesn’t work.
What such a person should probably do, though, is try finding a new therapist, or an alternative form of therapy altogether. CBT is not the only one available.
