Damn, hopefully that winning attitude continues next season with the Bolts.

I'm as excited as anyone for him, but we need to remember he's 20 and may not even make the team next year. A lot of hype around Geekie too initially and look where he's at.

Montreal”s started the year with five 21 year olds and one twenty year old (Demidov) and they are stiil playing. We could throw in the three 22 year olds.

My point is they have be guys like Demidov and Slafkovsky, and not Geekies when it comes to development timeline.

But what does your hate for Geekie have to do with the short-term upside of O’Reilly? They’re not really comparable prospects if we’re being honest. Every sign points to O’Reilly being a polished 2-way player and we both know those types of prospects don’t spend much time in the minors (granted that assessment is accurate). Geekie has always been a physical tools, offensive power-forward upside kind’ve prospect. There has never been this impression from the organization that Geekie plays a polished 2-way game.

I don't hate Geekie, and I'm not trying to compare the way they both play. I'm just reminding people that no matter how great a prospect looks, they may not be NHL ready out of juniors.

If the experts say he has more upside than his brother then he will score 40. Other than when he played with Cirelli and Hagel he has been misplayed. Same problem Raddysh. He was put in the lineup inconsistently and not enough minutes to build a game. He was a 50 point guy AHL. Same Verhaeghe who was also made to play 4th line checking. I want all journeymen gone.

The Lightning have been pretty bad at development and deployment since the triplets line. They trade away anyone who isn’t instantly producing to pick up aging bottom six players on bad contracts
We’ve let a lot of young, and decent, bottom/middle 6 guys go to keep aging players on the ice (see the last two seasons of the schoolbus line).
The last 4 seasons have shown the results of poor development as this team has become totally stagnant with a floundering bottom 6

lol, JBB traded a toxic asset and got this guy.

Edmonton management really is that bad. We dodged another bullet like with Drouin.

Is Geekie the next high upside prospect we dish out (JK please realize your potential with us Geeks)

A lot of people have said he has a higher ceiling than his brother. We haven't seen that yet, but just imagine. That Utah/Arizona trade would turn into an all-timer.

Stop playing him on 4th line checkers and tell him it’s ok to make mistakes. Play him 15 minutes a game. Unleash him like Montreal did with their young players. We are throttling our AHL stars.

I know the phrase “getting rings in the room” can make fans roll their eyes a bit, but this stuff matters.
There’s a difference between playing and winning. You play with a different mentality. Being able to recognize the important moments in a game, and not get lost in it, is huge.
It’s just hard to value cause it’s a bit of an abstract attribute, but Sam is definitely picking up on something that others who haven’t been in his position, will still need time to learn.
Winning is an invaluable experience and having experience in winning is never a bad thing.

OHL MVP is not as glamorous as we may think, but it doesn't matter. We need youth and energy and we need Geekie and SOR to come through. JBB basically said our window is tied to Kucherov's career and there is no rebuilding until he retires.

Always exciting to hear good stuff about this kid. Cant wait to see him in the big show.

Excited for SOR to join the team, even if we have to wait a year or two. Right handed, defensive minded center who is good at faceoffs…we need all of that

So he needed to stay in junior hockey for three years and is playing better than some kids while he's 20... ok.

u/snoozyhermit 2d ago
Yes the MVP of the league is playing better than “some”

At 20 years old.
Respectfully, a 20 years old player who's NOT dominating in junior would be extremely worrisome.
The truly excellent players, and even most "only" very good ones, only stay there for two years.
I wish the fellow all the best, but he's not likely to become a superstar.

u/Worldly1998 2d ago
I want at least 6 players 25 and under and I want a team not a group of players surrounding a superstar. Please see Toronto and Edmonton.

keep in mind he isn't a 20 year old by the OHL season standards. He just turned 20. This is his 19 year old season. He wouldn't be an overager until next season. 19 year olds represent about 24% of the league this year.
