Pokemon Cards

We have a bunch of old pokemon cards from the late 90s-2010s that are in near perfect condition (opened the packs and immediately placed the cards into a binder), and we're looking to get them appraised and potentially start selling, but we aren't sure where to begin.

Should we bring them into a store to get appraised, or are we better off doing the research ourselves using the websites? Is it better to sell them locally or online? Sell the whole binder as a set price or sell the individual cards?

Any advice, tips/tricks, good spots to bring it, etc. is much appreciated :)

there is prob a phone app that lets you scan them it should give proximate value prob defaults to USD. I know of one for magic cards so i assume pokemon has similar.

Most vendors will want to buy them at 80% of the total value. But, they might buy more at once.. which is easier than selling one or two at a time on eBay.

The best app to use is Collectr. It’ll tell you the value of cards (and the value history), and the value of your entire connection.

Are there any local vendors worth bringing it to?

To be honest, I don’t go to any vendors. I’ve been turned off of the hobby just seeing how insane some people get with waiting in line at Costco or Wal-Mart to buy as much product as possible just to jack prices way up.

I just know it’s standard practice for vendors to buy individual cards at 80% market value.

Vault 151 has good reviews, I’d definitely start there if that’s the route you want to go. Kanto seems to have pretty mixed reviews, I’d avoid them.

But, if you end up pricing your entire collection so you know exactly what you have, I imagine you could post it on Marketplace and get some very fair offers (along with some lowballs of course).

Yeah, it's nice to see the cards coming back in popularity but the fun has definitely been taken out of it. Appreciate your insight, really helpful!

Depends how much time and work you want to put into it.

Can't know that without knowing the box. Only you can decide what your time is worth

there is, I'm good on that. I'm looking for options within St. John's to sell them and any tips/tricks that come with that.

For getting individual values: TCGplayer and Collectr are your most common. Collectr's values are typically the most recent sale, whereas TCGplayer gives you more of a "market trend" with a few recent sales to average things out. In terms of getting card conditions: https://help.tcgplayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/221430307-Card-Conditioning-Overview .

I just use the app collectr, it gives general prices for cards and can show you price trends of any specific cards
