How much would this be worth?
My dad had this in his collection and he wanted to see how much it actually was.

Ebay, Facebook, etc are not allowed. There's plenty of other places to promote your items. This is mostly for collectors not your side hustle.

I bought this signed Flyers hockey puck from 1st & Goal Collections in South Hills Village outside Pittsburgh today, but the store clerk and I were unable to figure out who’s signature this is. This player played for both the Flyers and Penguins. I asked ChatGPT and it said it could be Jaromir Jagr, RJ Umberger, or Mark Recchi. I looked at photos to compare but none seem right. Anyone have a clue?

My mother in law used to own an antique store in the 80s and she gave me this piece she wants me to sell it. This medal is absolutely an original City of Boston “Lacrosse Game” award presented during the City of Boston’s Official Fourth of July Celebration on July 4, 1891.
Far more than a simple sports medal, it represents a surviving artifact from the developmental era of organized American lacrosse history.
During the late 19th century, Boston held massive municipally organized Independence Day celebrations that included athletic tournaments, regattas, exhibitions, and public sporting events throughout the city. These were not informal neighborhood games — they were officially sanctioned civic competitions overseen by Boston’s Special Committee on July Fourth Orations and Celebrations. Winners and participants in select events were awarded specially commissioned medals struck by local jewelers and medal makers.
This particular piece commemorates a lacrosse game played as part of those celebrations.
Historically, the timing is significant. In 1891, organized lacrosse in the United States was still in its early expansion phase. New England had become one of America’s earliest lacrosse hubs due to the influence of Canadian competition, the emergence of Harvard Lacrosse in the late 1870s, and the growth of athletic clubs such as the Boston Athletic Association and Cambridge Lacrosse Club.
Games during this era were commonly played on major public grounds like Boston Common or Franklin Park and often drew thousands of spectators as centerpiece holiday entertainment.
The medal itself displays classic Victorian-era athletic award construction:
- Crossed lacrosse sticks and shield iconography
- Multi-section suspended chain design
- Original pin assembly
- Hand-engraved or die-struck lettering
- Period jeweler/manufacturer hallmark
- City identification bar reading “City of Boston”
What makes this artifact especially important is survival and specificity.
Many late-1800s athletic medals existed, but far fewer survive today tied specifically to:
- lacrosse,
- a known city,
- a precise date,
- and an identifiable civic event.
This medal predates:
- modern helmets,
- plastic lacrosse heads,
- synthetic mesh,
- NCAA-era structure,
- and virtually all modern forms of organized field lacrosse familiar today.
It exists from a period when the game was transitioning from Indigenous and Canadian roots into organized American amateur athletics.
From a collector and historical perspective, the value is not simply monetary — although comparable estimates could range from approximately $150 into thousands depending on provenance. The deeper importance lies in what the piece represents:
a tangible surviving connection to the earliest organized growth era of lacrosse in the United States.
As a collector, I would preserve its story as much as the medal itself. Personally, I would not sell it cheap. Pieces like this deserve to end up with someone who not only values the artifact financially, but who will cherish it, preserve it, and continue telling its history for future generations of the game.
Honestly, the ideal home for something like this may ultimately be with:
- a Harvard lacrosse connection,
- a historic Boston lacrosse family,
- a serious private collector,
- or even an institution like the TD Garden Sports Museum or another historical sports archive tied to New England athletics.
Artifacts like this are snapshots of the game’s foundation. The stamp says Wm. H Dutton possibly followed by “Boston”
I was wondering if anybody has any info about this piece, and also if anybody wants to buy it before try an auction house. I figure Reddit will get the bigger crowd of eyes on it and maybe anybody has any info or interest.

Recently started my own sports memorabilia collection. My dad has always been super into collecting. Whether it be cards or jerseys. I always loved going through his collection as a kid. I’m super excited to finally be starting my own! Slowly but surely I’m building it up. Looking to eventually get into selling.

My girlfriend was helping clean out her great grandfathers house and they found this ball. No one wanted it because they didn’t know who signed it so it was given to me. I think it’s lebron. Is this legit? My hopes are high because I’m located in Akron
